Twelve years ago, huh? Remember what editions you were playing with then?

No, but I've heard of it.

When I was younger I collected Pokemon cards. I didn't how to play, because I didn't understand the rule book. Just last year I actually decided that I wanted to learn how to play, and I did! Sad, isn't it?

I played for a brief period around Mirrodin. It was fun, but expensive and I had nobody to play with.2008-10-19 08:14:00

I picked up a starter pack about 3 years ago. I gave it my best shot at getting into it but as far as I know only 2 other people in the city I live in(the city of Angels.... no, wait...) play. And when I asked them about playing a game, they were complete jerks about trying to play against an untrained player. I have played a few games online, didn't do great, and played a few against the girlfriend, then she got bored, now the cards are in the loft somewhere.

(I believe there are only two players as there is, as far as I am aware, only one shop that sells the cards, I asked the owner of said shop how many people bought the cards, to which he repied I was only the third person to buy any. About a year ago he stopped stocking them because he was making much more turnover from HeroClix.)

Sounds like a good number of you have had the all too familiar experience of picking up cards but not knowing where to go from there. Either way, it's great fun when you know what you're doing and are able to work out strategies and build decks around your own personal strengths.

If anyone's interested, there's a free application called Magic Workstation that's easy enough to get up and running with ALL of the cards included. The sky's the limit you see; only your creative juices can hinder what you can come up with. That being said, I'd love to teach anyone who is interested in learning.

Bottom line, the rules are easy enough, but it takes some time to grow accustomed to the different types of decks you might find yourself up against. Then again, that's really the fun part...

Yep, I played around 12 years ago as well, first edition I played was 3 or 4, up until the Urza's Legacy expansion or whatever it was called.2008-10-19 15:13:00

Why don't you play anymore? I only play for the fun; never played any kind of organized competition.

Have a favorite deck build?

i just play for fun now too... i used to play in some organized events (not serious competative ones though). i even ran my own tourney! i just really don't play anymore because i have no one to play with... i iz a loner

my favorite builds are some common ones like elves and white weenie. i did make some just for fun decks with creatures/concepts i liked. for example i have a red-green kavu deck (my favorite kind of creature in magic- they look cool!) i also have a red blue control deck (from the guildpact series) with the cool r/b dragon. there are so many cards that play off each other it's crazy!

just wondering, have you tried eye of judgment for the ps3? its a card game that uses a camera to scan the cards and you play people online with your actual cards... awesome game!

One of my favorite builds is elves as well. There were really some good elves in this last edition. That kavu deck sounds interesting; I always thought some of the pictures of them looked like Alien (see Kavu Climber). Control is my favorite style; I also have a R/U deck but it's not my best build.

I haven't played Eye of Judgement, but I think I should get it if for the Playstation Eye alone. Sounds like fun; I'll have to give it a look.
