Popular LBP level creators will get more server space

Archive: 17 posts

According to this news post (http://www.gameplayer.com.au/gp_documents/080730-lbp.aspx?catid=News) at gameplayer, server space for uploading user-created levels will be strictly limited.

Yet users who upload more popular levels, as voted by gamers, will be rewarded with more server space. So it'll be like YouTube, only without the suck.

I like that idea. Seeing as there will be a multitude of people posting ****ty levels, it'll be nice to know that people who make good levels consistently will be rewarded.2008-07-30 03:22:00

I've got no problem with this. It's a good idea. Make sure the good level creators have enough space.2008-07-30 12:11:00

Most games I would just make a few crappy levels. or none at all. But with this I am gonna try to make huge, awesome levels. And maybe just funland type levels. With catapults and vehicles and jetpacks etc.2008-07-31 14:34:00

I've got only one problem with this setup...

It's great that only the better creators are gonna get extra space but, how many levels are we gonna see with a little self advert/promotion that says, "Vote for my level" at the end? It's not gonna be too big of a problem, I'm sure, and it's not gonna keep me from buying the game (because, it looks like BUCKETS of AWESOME) but, I have a feeling it's gonna be less like youtube and more like cardomain.com.

For those of you unfamiliar with cardomain.com, it's a social networking site based around cars where people rate your each others cars on a scale of 1-5 stars. Most of the people on there will rate a crappy car 5/5 and leave a comment demanding the same love in return.

I wanna see some genuinely awesome levels at the top rather than a bunch of popularity contest winners with no substance or style.

Well just guessing from the create trailer, it seems that popular equals most played.

So if you make a level and lots of people play it, you get more room to make additional levels. Nevermind that you're supposed to be able to make a bunch from the get-go anyway.

I don't think and yes hope, that they don't attach a voting system. Only the comments part (again trailer), just to keep things as simple as possible.

There will always be those guys who vote 1/10 out of spite, but since most are interested in getting new cool content, the ratings will work. If they don't work, there are different ways to determine who deserves more space than others (moderators / volunteers / respected members of the community could have a much higher impact than 'ordinary' users).

Bottom line is, the rating system will work ok, one way or the other.

You've never seen a person say "hey, subscribe to my videos" on youtube. Most people say it every single video.

But really, this'll work. Most LBP creators will focus on creating, players on playing. That way, players will rate honestly, because they don't care as much about their levels' ratings.

Now that you mention it... I have seen that whining for subscriptions thing here and there. Attention whores are what they are! :-p
Anyways, I hope you guys are right about the rating system. I know I'll be doing my best to vote down the pewp and vote up the awesome stuff.

Well, we've been working on a logo that we(as a forum) will stamp on levels that we've made. Here's the thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=317). Make sure to look at all the logos, as many have improved(including mine!).

That gives me an idea. I gotta go post it. *runs off*

I think this is great actually. It really encourages level to be better.2008-08-01 07:50:00

It does. People have a reward more than good ratings.

Yeah and it also adds a challenge to people.. Like now I will try harder to make popular levels

Pretty cool news.

At first read, I scoffed at this, because I HATE having limits put on what I can do. But after thinking about it, it makes perfect sense. This should keep a lot of the spam and riff-raff out.2008-08-01 12:03:00

The same idea was tossed up at littlebigfan.com a few times before the site died.
... not that LBPCentral is going away or anything. They also had some idea of having to go through a gate level for a key to access any other level created by the forum members but, we all dismissed that as counterproductive.
Anyways, if I ever get on there and work with lbpc members to build a level, I'd rock the lbpc badge proudly. For my solo efforts, on the other hand, that's another story. I'd have to think about it.

I agree. Colloboration logoism I'm fine with, but personal levels can stay your own. I'll do the same.
