Making a bridge.

Archive: 14 posts

I've always had trouble with it. ALWAYS!!! I make a bunch of little dynamic shapes between two cliffs and connect them, with string. But when you "press play" it gets all jittery and disconnects itself, like it's possessed. I need help making a it!!! I really need it for my level coming out soon, this bridge is pretty much the finishing touch. I needed to put the lbpc logo somewhere so I figured i could put it above a bridge to look cool. But anyways, It'd be great if someone would tell me how to make it correctly! please 2010-08-12 22:27:00

I don'tk know man, why not use the corner editor with one static shape to make a sorta upsidedown-U shape bridge? That's what I do.2010-08-12 23:03:00

The game does tend to freak out when there are too many dynamic objects all connected together. How many sections is your bridge? It might work better with fewer moving parts... For example, you could make the first and last sections static and people may not even notice.2010-08-12 23:59:00

I use bolts to connect my pieces, and I always make a fresh one right before I publish just to be safe. I have noticed if you un-pause in create mode that is when those dynamic pieces tend to get squirrely.2010-08-13 00:21:00

This should be a "On Topic" question:

Does anyone know how to make a proper working "Collapsing Bridge"?
I know how to make one, but the piston is just not strong enough to hold it up, even if it's made of cardboard.

When you say "Collapsing Bridge" what kind of bridge do you mean? because you can just put desolvable materials under a stone bridge.2010-08-13 07:45:00

Sketch is right, I did this in one of my levels under development right now. Put a very slim piece of dissolvable material connected to the string or rod where you want the bridge to collapse. Then add a sensor switch on the bridge or wherever you want it to be and connect it to the dissolvable material. Also be sure to add a sound effect to make it cool2010-08-13 19:46:00

Oh, no, no, no.
When I meant "collapsing" I meant like a bridge you can "fold" and "extend out".
I knew how to make a regular bridge that falls apart, lol.

Maybe you could use emmiters? Then again that would probably ruin the feel.2010-08-14 01:55:00

Easy way to make a bridge:
- One rectangular block of how many layers you wish. (We'll call this R1)
- Another rectangular block, on the thin layer. (We'll call this R2)
- Put R2 over R1, place it precisely over it on the left hand side with a bolt.
- Now the part people don't usually do, get another R2, but this time STICK it on the right hand side.

Repeat this process over and over for your chosen length of the bridge. The whole reason this makes a much more stable bridge is because it doesn't rely on two bolts, making it have a chain reaction after one bolt has weight on it. Instead, it leans on one side and lets the other side take in all of the weight. This is the same method Media Molecule use on their bridges. Anyway, good luck!

When i make a bridge i just get two copies of a thin loopy shape that looks like a vine or rope with one on each layer and glue wooden planks in between them.2010-08-14 02:49:00
