Discussion about creative-ness

"Cause maybe the world would be better if we were all just uncreative drones.
No dead childhood dreams to haunt us. A decent job. A decent home.
And if we had some free time we could do real things to promote peace.
Like become scientists, or history teachers, or un-corrupt police at least."

-Jeffrey Lewis-

What do you think?

Let's see.... I'm not creative. I have nothing to contribute... :/2010-08-11 17:11:00

I think creativity is what separates us from animals.
I think the fact that we have the means to create houses, music, waffles, paintings, furniture, movies, teddy bears, literature, and video games to make our world a better place... that we have these things, AND the senses and sensibilty to appreciate them is proof to me of a higher power.

Creativity is pretty important. But that's just my opinion.

The world is filled with uncreative drones. That is not the problem. The problem is a lack of motivation to do even the slightest thing to improve the world. Sure, somebody might be inspired one day... But, the next day it's back to the same mundane lifestyle.

Regardless, what does it matter? The world is certainly in no rush to change. This is essentially purely hypothetical, and virtually inconceivable. Ultimately this doesn't really mean anything, since it is nearly impossible to eliminate creative thought. People don't change on a whim, and are in fact rather stubborn by nature.

That being said... Creativity is vital to the technological progression of our race. We would be nowhere if it were not for creativity. If you take away creative thought you do not merely remove the arts and literature from the picture, it would cripple mathematics, physics, and all of the sciences as well.

Ideas have to come from somewhere, and we are nothing without them.

HA! Yeah, you're right. I saw that on Discovery when it first aired and I was blown away!

Ok, so creativity is what separates us from MOST of the animals. LOL

Creativity is not really what separates us from other creatures... It's the ability to extrapolate upon, communicate, and apply thoughts and ideas on a relatively large scale.2010-08-11 17:38:00

So, put simply, we are more capable to carry out our creativeness? Sounds good to me!

Sure, why not. It's extremely late from my perspective, so whatever floats your boat. I will probably end up arguing the other side of this when I get some sleep.

It's a matter of perspective, I guess.

My point was: Our society, for better or for worse, wouldn't have made it out of the stone age without creativity. And we get some nice things to listen to, look at, and play with to boot.

So true. Not one day goes by without creativity being well creative and carried out.

I'm an artist.. creativity, being creative, imagining things, and enjoying the things other people create, all are largly essential to my happiness and feeling of purpose, along with other things(like studying and caring for animals).... so i'd rather not be an 'uncreative drone', if that's ok with you, jeffery lewis! Jeffrey Lewis is a very creative individual really. He is a musician in a genre that most people have not even heard of that is called Anti-Folk. Or sometimes UnFolk.
It takes the stringy guitar with simple vocals of folk, and adds in witty lyrics that are mocking of society and the way people think.
Here he is posing a hypothetical question. Questioning if the world would be a better place if we didn't dream and hope, just to get said hopes crushed.
Or perhaps he is just mocking the way lots of people do not value creativity in society and is making a comment on how other people feel.

Either way, even if our lives were not better without out creativity, think about the world.

We've destroyed so much beauty in it with our cities, and our road ways, and etc. etc.

Would the world not be better with out us even if we were for the worst?
