The Sims

Im currently working on a sims level...... Where you will be able to buy your own furniture (from a variety) from the money you earn from your job you choose... Im trying to get it as close to the sims as possible..... And when its near complete I would need some testers please

Have you managed to get very far and know how you'll do it? Because this sounds like a very difficult concept, so I'd like to know how exactly you're planning on doing it and what your plans are for making it work before I get too excited

Heres a bit more detail and a few images for you guys.......

The House: The house will be fairly simple to start off with....... and as you can see here this is the one you will start with........ (It will have a roof and a garden so dont worry about that) All rooms will be able to have furniture placed in them and you can colour the walls/furniture as you wish..... http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/1268/aphotoh.jpg

Furniture and Items: Each item available to buy will be displayed in the buy mode...... ( a large room away from the house ) this will be accesible buy a grab switch in the garden which will take you there...... this isnt going to just be a block of sponge and a grab switch just so you know....... The items will be sorted into collums..... each collum for a diffenet type of item like beds, baths, T.V's etc. Once you choose the item you want you will grab the switch and the item will be emitted into the house. Each item will cost.... and you will earn money by getting a job. http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/4839/aphoto2e.jpg

Jobs: At the start of the game you will receive a newspaper with however many jobs in that I decide..... you will choose one of these... and depending on what job the carpool will arrive at the same time everyday...... once you get back from work you will earn money to go towards your spendings.... not going to work will eventually result in you being sacked.

Money: There will be a system for the money.. which I havnt started yet....... when you get money its added to your collection and when you buy furniture its taken away.

Mood: There will be a system for your mood... shown below......... these bars will evntually decrease and its your job to move them back up again.... by sleeping, eating etc.... http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/3750/aphoto1rz.jpg

There is still quite abit to do and figure out so if you have any ideas or suggestions let me know Any questions, criticism I would love to hear them

Cool, I am planning on doing a Sims level in LBP 2, but my idea is very very different from yours, for example I am going to have it top down similar to the origional sims perspective and I am going to have realistic AI for NPC's.

Can't wait to see this though looks like its going to be fun.

Okay another update for you guys...... I have made quite abit of progress and its coming on quite well

When you start the level you will spawn behind 'The Sims Logo' After about 5 seconds you will be teleported to another checkpoint on the ground......

The checkpoint you will be teleported to is seen here (in the tree) This is also the area where the carpool will spawn for your job....... (And dont worry I will be sure to move it away from the wall and extend the grass out of view..... I also have an invisible wall stopping you from going any)

These are the buttons I refered about earlier..... grabbing them will teleport you to the chosen one...... the one thats ringed is the one your currently on....... The Buy mode (Chair and lamp button) is where you can buy furniture for your house....... the build button (house one) is where you can buy loft/attic/basement extensions........ trees and stuff for the garden. The living mode (people button) is just where you will live basically XD ow and ignore the red buttons they wont be there

This is the house as it will start (with plastered walls) You can paint them with your own colours or buy some wallpaper/paint from build mode.....

Last is the mood/skill bar......... Your skills will need to be improved to get promotions in your job and therefore earn more money..... Pressing triangle at any time will activate the camera so you can see the mood/skill bar....

This is where I need help...... I need to make a money like system but dont know what to do :s It needs to have the following:

.When you buy stuff money is decreased....
.When you earn money it increases..

Well I'm no logic expert, or anywhere near it...

But I THINK something like that is possible with a piston or two. The more to the left it is, the less money you have, the more to the right the more money you have. Then some complicated stuff to hook it...

Eh, I know it has something to do with one shots or pistons or whatever... Try making a thread in the Help forum...

... We need to have more tutorials and stuff <_>

The thing is, you can't really save it can you? So doesn't that mean once you leave the level, you will have to start from scratch all over again?

Great idea mate

if you ever need some help give me a friend request because I have a nack for making some cool houses and furniture

my question is how are you going to make a system that is advanced enough to calculate the exact amount of money to subtract and add?

EDIT: whoops! Didn't see all the posts well I am alright with logic and don't mind giving it a shot with my knowledge. But I must say that you are gonna need like three thermometers for the simple method

call me an idiot, and maybe i am missing something major to lbp but did you say pressing triangle will bring up the skills bar? as far as my kowledge goes triangle has no such application.. how are you planning to do that?

Probably with a magic mouth. Or definitively with a magic mouth. The magic mouth could be activated at any time, you press triangle, the camera zooms to the skills bar.

This is looking pretty good so far judging by the pictures. I'll have to get around to playing this somehow when it's released.

Obviously it's up to you but I think a top down version would be REALLY cool. Since, when you think about it, Sims is generally a top down game. there'd be a lot more logic involved and 've no idea how the thermo would hold up but it would definitely be interesting to see to say the least. Good luck with with this
