Ability to SHARE levels/games

Archive: 16 posts

I know the title sounds silly, but I had a small idea just now. I've been thinking of how the community works together to create levels. Now, in LBP1, when you finish a level you've been making, you get a "key" to the level which you can put in another level of yours. The player who gets it can then get access to the locked level. In LBP2, there will be patches/badges (not sure what the official name was) which are like portals that could be put in the level/game that will automatically direct you to a different level/game.

This is where my idea comes in. Let's say you and a buddy or group have been working on this series of levels/games, and each member worked on their own level by themselves. Imagine if you could then give a friend the patch/badge to your level, just like the keys in LBP1. I know you must be thinking "why not have the other person just copy the level". Well, this could increase slots. Assuming a creator is limited to 20 slots, working with others and having them use their own space will free up yours and theirs. Of course a series might not need 21+ levels to make, but if there were any HUGE projects, it would come in handy. If you think about it, story mode has 50 levels and they are made by different creators, but each level directs you to the next one.

I haven't really thought it through 100% because I just thought of it now, but I personally think it would be a neat idea. And to be honest, it seems rather simple to implicate. What do you people think? Yay? Nay?

So, you want to link levels of different creators to an Epic Homespun Saga?
Meh.

I'm hoping that you won't still be limited to 20 levels in LBP2. I think that you should be able to make adventures as epic as the one in the story mode.2010-08-10 15:55:00

This idea is a somewhat simpler variant of my idea at the end of the OP on this topic: Link. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=32682-A-few-ideas)
I suppose this is a more basic method, but I think that there isn't much difference between this and keys; also, this would mean that people could get sucked into a sort of matrix:

If you used these 'badges' at the very start of a level, and then used them to transport you to another level that puts you back in the first level, transporting you to the second level again, etc etc. It could cause lots of trouble for players, who would have to quit the game in order for them to escape the "loop of death". If you're suggesting something different....

You see, the difference between the keys and the badges though, is the key will unlock the level for someone to play, and the badge will warp the person directly to the level. I don't think you can give a badge as a prize (or any way for that matter), but if this happened, you probably could give it directly to certain people (maybe only in create mode). So if you gave someone the badge and they put it in their level, they would be warped to your level after. Personally, I just think it's a good idea to save space. Even if there's a higher limit than 20, you'd still be saving space for more levels by doing this.

EDIT:

Meh.

I'm not sure if you're refering to what it says in the announcement trailer, and being sarcastic. Or if you really don't care for the idea.

If you didn't understand what I said, I'll say it again;

If one creator puts a badge right at the very beginning of his level; and this badge warps to another creators level, what's to stop an endless 'warp' happening?

So, it goes like this:

?Creator 1 puts badge linking to Creator 2's level
?Creator 2's level has a badge which links back to Creator 1's level
?The cycle repeats endlessly... Warp of death.

hmm i most be mistaken because could we not also just do that with your own two levels?
and i don't know but is there not going be a would you like to continue to the next
level button when your on the warp badge point? *mew

Ok, I understand what you mean now, but still. Why would someone put the badge at the beginning of a level? The idea is to put it towards the end. It's for a series of levels. Also, I'm pretty sure a badge will warp someone to the beginning of a level, not to where the badge of the level you were in is placed in the level you're going to. So it would go like this.

?Creator 1 puts badge at the end of level 1 linking to Creator 2's level
?Creator 2 puts badge at the end of level 2 linking to Creator 1's OTHER level
?Creator 1 puts badge at the end of level 3 linking to Creator 2's OTHER level
? Etc.

I'm not sure if that's how badges work, but I mean put them at a place so the next level you will start at the beginning.

I wasn't sarcastic, just saying how I understood it.

How I understood that the badges work is when you've finished playing a level, it would send you directly into the level linked, not when you encounter a badge in-level.
Might be wrong though.

Well, if there isn't a "would you like to continue" box, there's nothing to stop one or two creators creating this "warp of death" scenario: I mean, sure, it's supposed to be used at the end of the level, but technically, noobs could use it to create warps of death.

@ fumetsusozo; Yes, one creator could do that, but the OP is talking about different creators.

Hey, I tought you could pause and get back to your pod at anytime? (a quick pause could do the trick)
Or maybe badges only go at the scoreboard.

I believe that you can link to any level you want... I remember a Molecule saying something about how you can even make levels that are just badges to your favorite levels...2010-08-11 01:16:00

If this is true then I don't have to worry about trying to get this idea in, because it's pretty much what I want.
