http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss9/kaiju_kid/Agrey.jpgA surreal adventure in a monochrome world...
Life isn't just black and white, the beauty lies somewhere in between.

I proudly give you my third PSP effort entitled The Beauty of Grey. As the title suggests, this is a monochrome level with a surreal theme, and a dash of psuedo philosophy about embracing things you are not used to, and enjoying their difference. In the level, you represent color, and the world of Black and white is appalled at first, but some begin to like that you are something out of the norm. The level is very artsty and open, and I spent a lot of time on the visuals.

On that note, I am claiming to have discovered this new technique that simulates neon material on the PSP. I might be wrong, but I have never seen it used before, and to this extreme.

I'm dubbing the technique K-tron!(LOL)
Go give this a try if you have a PSP, I promise it's different!

Thanks for the interest guys, and if anybody wants to know how I did the neon thingy, just ask. I didn't post it in the glitches post because I don't know if it's worthy, but it looks hella cool. Besides, you can pretty much decipher how it's done once you see it in-game. But if you can't I'll splain it to you. It would be cool to do a whole TRON level using it.2010-08-10 00:25:00

Okay I told you I would be back!

Dude words cannot express how beautiful this level is...I haven't felt this way about a level since...Birds of Paradise!! I felt like I walked right into a MC Escher painting: everything was so topsy turvey and imbalanced (which is REALLY good for your theme). The story was brilliant and it was quite amusing to see color evolve from black and white. Like I said in the beginning, words cannot describer how amazing this level was. Complete beauty and an obvious love for optical illusions! <3
BUT...why...the...soccer...ball?! I liked it and I understand why it is in the level (black and white). But whhyyyy?!?!? I almost had the #1 highscore!! But anywho it wasnt too hard, it just threw me off a couple of times, but no biggie <3

Overall: I love the design and the Illusion-ness (That is NOT a word ) of your level, pleaseee make more!!

5 Stars/ Heart/ Hearted Creator <3 <3 <3

Wow Kaiju just when I think you could not possibly amazing me even more with a level you come out with one that sucker punches me in the back of the throat! The visuals and level design here is amazing and beautiful and the character design is just top notce. I have played your other visual and bizzare levels like this but this one has to be the best of them yet. The only bad things I can say are VERY VERY minor which are that sometimes its hard to make jumps without changing planes and being trap by walls and such when you need to jump over gass pits and sometimes its hard to get into the plane you need to so that you can continue but like I said this is very minor. You even managed to end the level amazing me, as I hung upside down trying to figure out how you did that last effect with the score board. This is a great level of pure awesomness, five stars and a heart from me.2010-08-10 03:06:00

Wow, awesome you guys! Didn't know if the surreal theme would go over well with the PSP crowd, but I guess it did! And to be compared to Birds of Paradise . a legendary level, is a very high compliment. You guys made my day, thank you!2010-08-10 11:20:00

Thank you Comrade Domik!
I appreciate your kind words, and am glad you like the surrealism. I don't know if the story made sense when translated, but at least the artwork is nice yes?
Also, since this is feedback for feedback, please let me know what levels you all would like me to play from you. Although, I think I've already played all your levels Domik as I'm waiting for your new one a long time now.

Wow, thank you such much Domik and Taffey! You guys are the best! I think the unusual title I chose for this level leads people to believe it's boring without some pics, but thanks to the great media you guys provided, maybe some more people will give it a shot.
Cheers!

Hi kaiju_kid, I was excited to see a new level by you and was intrigued by the images. All I can say is anybody questioning whether games can be art needs to give this level a try. It has such strong imagery and several different art styles. As I made my way through the level I felt a little like Alice in a monochrome wonderland. The visuals are some of the most stunning I've seen on the PSP. That alone makes this level a must play but you were able to combine those images seamlessly with game play and an interesting story, incredible. It was truly a surreal world for me to play through. I enjoyed it from beginning to end every one of the seven times I played it.

What an interesting level!

Story: 10/10
Sackboy is stuck in a world that everything is either black or white. Original and very cool.

Music/SFX Choice: 8/10
SFX were absolutely amazing but the first song choice I don't think really described the level. I would have gone with shanghai blues to get that eerie kind of feeling, but it's just my opinion.

Appearance: 9/10
This was great. Very abstract which makes it interesting, however the story goes as everything is black or white, but there were a few things that weren't... But the part in your picture that looks all "maze-ish" was stunning. I loved the end where everything became colorful, that was awesome and reminded me of "The Color of Music."

Creatures/Objects: 10/10
This is what really made the level amazing. I loved all the characters and the big guy with the arms (near the piano) looked amazing. Also the spider above him.

Gameplay: 8/10
Since this level is so abstract, it was difficult to find out where to go sometimes, but I managed. The part with the spider and the electric circles took me like 15 tries, it was very tough. Also, the maze-looking area needed a couple more checkpoints, because it was hard to see where I was going.Other than that, the rest of it was spectacular!

Overall: 8.7/10 (not an average)
I liked this a lot! I'm sure it'll be spotlighted or at least a nod. I gave you :star::star::star::star::star:.

F4F: It'd be great if you would check out my new level: A Bubbly Garden. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=33024-A-Bubbly-Garden.)

Hey man! Sorry, I'm a little bit late on feedback but here I am! The level was great! I loved the black and white color scheme and whatnot. I like levels like that a lot, and the beginning reminded me a bit of Black and White world/planet 3 by jump_button on the PS3. Which is an awesome thing! I loved the characters that you had and the gameplay was great! I had a little bit of trouble with it though since I've been playing the PS3 a lot, which means that none of it is your fault. This level was awesome!

Five stars and a heart!

Keep up the great work!

I thought about using that song, but the level is weird as it is, lol. I thought using a lilttle more upbeat music would even out the strangeness and attract more people.

Uh, oh. Another one lost to the ps3. That makes Amazing Poo, Velcro, and now Eagerneph, lol. Bigger pallet, bigger potential, and part 2 around the corner.
Thanks for taking the time to reply guys!

Hey Buddy!!

I am sorry for a late response to your thread, I just got back from a family reunion down in south Georgia. I played this before I left, but I knew I would take my psp with me and give it few more runs before feedback. This was another great level. I don't know why, but it had an Andy Warhol vibe to it. It was trippy, and artsy, and it just looked fantastic. The black and white looked excellent by the way. I knew it would, all your levels do. The platforming in this level was awesome. Very ingenious ways to get through a level. From the very beginning to the end, the platforming was tight.

That dancing dude was freaking insane!! That is one of, if not the coolest things I have ever seen on lbp psp so far. Climbing up his arms and getting to the ceiling was so fun!! The spider ride and the twirling objects was a tough section at first, but i think I finally got a pattern going.

You always have at least one section in your levels that reqire a bit of skill to get through, and I always like that, got to keep on your toes, right? The part where it looked all neon, was another section that just blew my mind the first time I saw it. I really loved your new level KK!!

Another heart!! <3

Hey kaiju_kid,

Hmm...looks like I'm late to the party. That's okay though, I have a big present for you. Congratulations for making it to the community spotlight! As a big fan of art (I know it's kinda hard to tell), I really enjoyed this level. It has a unique aesthetic, and you back it up nicely with fun, challenging gameplay. Fantastic job, and I hope you make more "artsy" levels in the future.

Hey Buddy!!

Congratulations on another spotlight. This is one of the best looking levels I have ever played, and you did it with the bare minimum as far as colors go. Very impressive.

I am so glad you decided to make us some levels over here on the psp.

Well somebody in this thread compared it to your Birds of paradise art-wise, and I considered it a very high compliment Jeffy, and to hear kudos straight from you is the topping on the cake. Thanks!

Looked at Taffey's Pics looked good so | tried it out. Your level looks so good it almost made me question the quality of jeffcu's work (Just kidding jeffcu your levels are awesome ) and i thought I was going to get a seizure just looking at it. Only complaints I have are that it looked so good that I was distracted by it to the point where where I would miss ridicuclously easy jumps. And the difficulty. maybe it's just me but this level took me about forty minutes to finish because I kept on dying and dying and dying and dying and dying. I probably only finished because I wanted to see more of the beauty and my stubborn attitude that forces me to finish every level i download. If it weren't for the stunning visuals and the well written dialogue I would have killed myself before finishing the level. Oh and did I mention the stunning visuals?
:star::star::star::star: (since there's no half star) and a <3 for the graphics.

Congratulations on the Spotlight kaiju! This really is an amazing level. The platforming is a bit on the tricky side, but once I "got into your head" it really started to flow nicely. It goes without saying that your visual style is simply remarkable - it's art. Just when I think I have you figured out, you come at us from a completely new (and awesome) direction. 5 stars and a heart!2010-08-29 06:11:00

Hey Kaiju! This level is amazing! I was stunned as soon as the level started, it was amazing. I really love the visuals in this level, everything is perfect. I cannot believe you pulled of these great visuals. The platforming was perfect and really fun. The only difficulty was with the spider/star section. I found it to be difficult, but not so bad that I couldn't make it. I really got a kick out of the clocks as well. The checkpoint on the clocks could cause some aggravation, but it looked so cool when it spun. Everything was greatness and makes me feel like I need to work harder on my visuals. This level deserves :star::star::star::star::star: and a <32010-08-30 19:47:00

Hidy ho kaiju! This feedback has been a long time coming thanks to my Internet issues. Well, I'm at a hotel, so I finally had a chance to download this.

This level was fantastic! I loved the color sheme you had going, and the way you had the rhyming dialog to carry the story was just plain awesome.

The platforming in the level was really good. The layering was some of the best I have seen on PSP. Great work with that!

Oddly enough, the gameplay had a bit of a Lleonard style feel to it. It looked nothing like his levels, but the gameplay elements felt like his, and that is a good thing since his levels are some of the best on PSP.

I would love to write more, but I am on my iPod touch so I think I will call it quits :-)
