One player plays as the gunner clearing the large objects out of the way as well as sending down a much needed paint gun for the others running the line. The runners are in charge of well... staying alive for as long as possible!! Quite fun and addictive, but could be considered hard! For 2 - 4 players with cooperation as well as quite a bit of strategy.
This is huge huge update of a co-op survival challenge that Killian and I originally did in the OC beta and has since laid waiting on a usb backup until several months ago. Since then, I have been updating it for the past several months to refine and update quite a bit of the logic, playability, scoring, and adding to the decorations and graphics. Many thanks to Killian for the original concept and awesome help when we created the original version in the Beta with some additional help from Squigg . It has gone through many many changes and updates over the past several months from where it first began, but I am excited to finally be able to bring Survival Line to the public pages of LBP for your playing pleasure for the very first time. Possibly one of the top 10 best survival challenges ever!

Word of warning!! READ THE DIRECTIONS ON THE LEVEL CAREFULLY!!
However.. here are some tips for survival.


* The huge gun ONLY destroys the large objects. You can also kill your runners. Use it wisely.

* The large objects leave smaller bits behind as obsticals and some even thought very small can be deadly. They cannot be shot, but you can move them around a bit with a paint gun if needed.

* LIMITED PAINT!! - You only have 50 shots, but can replenish as much as you like on the paint stand moving down the line. So choose your shots wisely. Non burning ones, you might want to simply bypass at times.

* Same topic as above.. limited paint! ..and it is up to the gunner in the control room to think wisely to send a new one down as ONLY ONE STAND can exist at at time!

* Sometimes runners have to think outside the box to proceed. That may mean a very timed jump onto fire to hope over other debris. Also keep in mind that sometimes shoving the non burning bits can help gain you some much needed space to retreat for a bit.

* This is not an easy level!! It can get hard very quickly.. especially if you are asleep at the controller!!!

Finally this level is out, this is really addictive and fun, and JWW doesn't lie when he says that is one of the top 10 challenges.
I had the pleasure to test the level 2 times in a week, and JWW worked so hard to refine every single particular.
The game certainly need some strategy, and you will learn something new from your faults at every new play.
The game can be even played in 2, but it's best in 4.
What I suggest is to keep a constant "director" and not change the role with the gunners in every play, because this level is as fun as much as you can master it, and mastering it needs some time.
I've not played the published version but the latest beta version as far as I know, so I'm sure this is a 5 star and a big heart.
Go out and play it!

this lvl is awsome! espesialy with 4 players thats when it really comes to life.I found gunner to be my favorite position. as gunner You are eqiped with 3 simple tasks 1. to clear the line of especialy big objects 2. to call in the paintinator 3. avoid shooting the sackpersons running on the line. That happend a few times with me and jww. (me shooting him with the plasma cannon twice!). i also found it really fun to run jump and shoot beneth the cannon. random stuff shows up each second rocks, flaming rocks ,some weird yellow thing, turrets filled with purple plasma and more. this is truly the ultimate co-op!.
Better use of the paintinator is hard to find.

Thanks Killian! Wish you could get a new PS3 and check it out! Yup.. I remember those 3 amazing days when we first did this one. Some of the best and most fun I ever had. ..quite funny considering the 18 hour days we did and you up till 3 and 4am since we are on different time zones. ACK!! Were we nuts or what?!!? ..oh.. don't answer!

Still quite a few accidental plasma deaths!! The other one is accidentally shooting a buddy oln the line INTO flaming debris. A cool new trick is adding some distance on a jump by shooting your buddy mid jump in the back. lol

LOL!! I was too!! I think he is back! ..or saw him on recently.

Most welcome and thanks again for all the "Mind if we play it one more time" some twenty times. ..and that is a great tip. Do not shoot deadly hazards into your teammate.

I agree 100%! You really do need someone at the gun who's really good at it. Everyone down on the line depends on him knowing when to send another paintenator and when to blast the big debris. It's also a good idea for the ones on the line to be aware of where they're shooting, but also be aware of where they're standing. I've been shooting away, watching where I was hitting and then got gassed in the chamber. Pretty funny, especially when playing with good friends.

Lol... so true. Best if you stay together so you don't shoot each other or lag back a bit and lob the shots over their heads. I mostly like lob shots as you can move back and forth to hit your targets rather than constantly aiming. Thanks for the extra tips!!

This in my view is the most addictive and best survival challenge out there on LBP, I was fortunate enough to play test this out and we played it non stop for about 1 hour and a half and i never got tired of it!!!!!!!! 5 stars and a heart 2010-08-11 23:40:00

Very good design and cleverly done.

I was rubbish at it initially but after some practice and with geddez as gunner to show how it's done it soon became addictive and fun.

You need a good few plays before you really get the hang of it and appreciate it properly. I'm still rubbish but at least I have a better idea of what I'm supposed to be doing now.

I think it really needs 3 or 4 players aswell to be the most fun. With only 2 it's very tricky and doesn't last long at all. Not with 2 like me anyway!

Well it definitely isn't what comes to mind when one thinks survival...

Considering you are best known on LBP for an arcade and a racer, this comes to place pretty far from those shores. Upon initially entering the level people want to get down to buisness--this levels is complex and makes you *GASP * R-E-A-D* What could be like, more... boring and stuff. Then there's the mechanic. Which while simple to understand--is hard as heck once your on the conveyor... and the more people you add the easier it gets right? Wrong. It's harder with more... and a heckuvalota FUN!

A great thinking man's survivial... which takes more wit than wrist... but creates a tension just the same. It starts off slow but I for one never scored as well as I thought I should-- have to go back... "I have to go back!" [Wipes spittle from lips]:hrmf:

It's ok, I didn't panic, mrv kindly started the level again while mrsv uttered words of comfort, we played again and I actually lasted much longer this time, at least a minute! At this point I thought you had gone mad or had been taking tips from 'Gravel's Book of How to Torture Sackies', so I left it to the expert gamers.

However, not to be deterred by the prospect of only ever watching the rest of my friends surviving whilst I had already met my demise, I nervously returned. Now playing four player with Geddez as our 'Gunner', several re-plays in, I found myself shouting 'again, again', each time surviving a little longer. At this point I decided to change my tactics and started sending friendly fire and having successfully wiped out mrv with my rather fetching purple paint by blasting him into the oncoming electric debris, I realised that I was completely hooked and would like to thank you for my latest addiction!

Fab-u-lous! Great work jw, it's fun, exciting, team building and just brilliantly constructed. Great concept from Killian too. I love it.

Thanks Icey! Glad to see you and MrV racking up some good scores as well!! In fact, while I was online I was seeing quite a few of those AGAIN's coming up on my messages. Too funny. I could tell right then you all were as hooked as Killian and I were when we first created. That was the first time online create was alive and it was fun having others come by and visit so we could shock, burn, plasma into oblivion and them still ask for more! Good times!!

My strategy is to shot only big fire debris and laser turrets, avoiding the other incoming small burning stuff and the big metal debris that are not in the way for jumps.
And I suggest to have only one frontliner that shoots with the paintinator, while the other preserve their shots.
This avoid pulling people into the hazards and preserve a good amount of shots, since in more people a lot of shots go miss.

Well I've been a fan of this one from all the way back in the dark days before teh real watorz or even online create were released and I'm so glad it's come out into the light!

Just the amount of fine tuning and tlc you've poured into this level is impressive. The original was fun and very cool but you've ramped up the visuals and the new obstacle system and guns really get the tension building as it gets faster. There's just so much subtlety going on here too!

The trick to a good score seems to be linked to your gunner. I know even in the beta when I was gunning we didn't last long. lol. I much prefer being a runner. Although apparently I'm deadly with the paintgun shooting comph into stuff..... sorry... I really was.

So ya, it's a much more sophisticated kind of survival challenge for sure and because it's designed for mutiplayer I can play it a lot....

5 stars & hearted - congrats on getting this one out the door J-Dub!

No I didn't! It shows your 2190 clear as a bell, at least for me right now. The online LBP scoring service is quite messed up. It might not always show up depending on when you log in or check. I know I will show one score in My High Score on a level and then when you look at all the scores, it sometimes doesn't even show up even if it was in the top ten. Quite a mess!

Awww thanks so much Morgana. It has been so wonderful getting this out the door and finally on to the LBP servers. Hearing all the kind words amid the screams of death from little sack boys and girls is just heart warming. Glad you enjoy it as much as I do!

I got round to playing this at the weekend with my friend and it was great!
Very cleverly made I must say.
I don't really like survival challenges but this I thoroughly enjoyed!
The design and visuals were amazing.
Definitely a 5 star level, well done guys!

As soon as I started playing it I thought "hmmm...I think I've played this before, but wait it's just been published?" then I saw that you and Killian had done this together and I knew I had played a version of it. Bravo jwwphotos! This is a fantastic rendition of what you guys did in OC beta. Super fun and challenging and anywhere from 2-4 players to boot~ It takes a bit of figuring out but once you get it....you get it. Looks gorgeous and love all the details and game play you packed into it. It's going on my list so I can play it may times with friends.

Yup.. I remember playing it with you and Morgana quite a long time ago and actually set the high score! Stuff has changed quite a bit, but the same concept, but a bit more polished and extra goodies. Glad you liked it!

Don't worry jww, I picked up ddavve and we had a blast, still we couldn't top our highscore.
So you can work on part 3 for our future delight.

Anyway ddavve, don't ask me how, once managed to die before spawning on the line, and the gas didn't activate to kill me inside the turret pod

If the game hasn't officially started from grabbing START, then the gas won't be triggered to kill you. ....though how he died after teleporting, I have no idea! Though he is does seem to scamper around quite a bit! lol

Played this with Babydoll, ScoutsBoo, and squirlin, and I do believe we set a 4-player high score. That was of course, in spite of Babydoll's affinity for accidental self-destruction.

Anyway, it was a total blast, we went back in again and again... Methinks I'll be revisiting this one many more times to come!

If the game hasn't officially started from grabbing START, then the gas won't be triggered to kill you. ....though how he died after teleporting, I have no idea! Though he is does seem to scamper around quite a bit! lol

On another note, I noticed the predominate tag is now ANNOYING as well as the amount of plays jump up quite a bit after my 7 days were up. Great.. <sigh>

I just figure it was impatient players that decided to attack me for a level that takes some thinking and strategy to get that tag to stick. Not that it is annoying, but if you are not aware of some things I imagine it could be, for example shooting at everything with the big gun and wondering why it all doesn't go away. So I added a level comment:

"Those that find this annoying must not be reading the directions. This is quite fun once you get the hang of it."

...at least it made me feel better.

That's what I learnt in almost 2 years of this game.
You can't ever expect to reap what you've sown, no matter how good your level is and how much effort you put in that.
Check Comphy or rtm hearts, that's not what they deserve, still there are so few because it's not stuff for kids.
I really like RangerZero's stance, that some feeds from some people here in the Community are better than thousand plays, so don't feel bitter, and keep on rockin'.

Not really bitter.. mostly a bit amused. It changed quite a bit from what it was just the previous day that it made me think someone set out to make that tag so large. Like it really really made them upset. lol

Maybe I should make an easy version and send one dangerous thing down the line every other minute amongst tons of fluffy teddy bear parts. LOL!!

I know I'm appallingly late to this party but I finally managed to dragoon my kids into playing this with me yesterday (they're not so into LBP these days). We all had an absolute blast, with my daughter (the youngest of us!) turning out to be a pretty cool gunner. The gameplay, once you've got the hang of how it works, is really compelling. It's such a clever idea and brilliantly executed. It beats a lot of survival challenges hollow because of the level of strategy required to do well at it. The whole thing was beautifully decorated too (no less than what we've come to expect form you!) although I was so busy I didn't have a lot of time to appreciate the finer details - just an overall impression of coolness, lol!

Thanks for a very fun half an hour and I'm sure we'll be back for more. We ended up getting what looked like the high score for 3 players but I can't believe that can actually be the case. It must be the way the scoring system is so messed up at the moment

Aww thanks so much. Much appreciated from a discerning game player such as yourself. Not sure about the high scores with the online servers the way they are. Seems like 2190 was the high score for two player and thought that Morgana and I with someone else hit a 2060 or something. I just love playing this game. I thought of backing off the timing of the overhead guns coming down, but I think it adds to the panic. It seems the faster you get rid of them the better as it puts them off their timing a bit so you don't have 2 coming down at you at once. lol
