o0-WOODEN BUTTONS-0ofenderjt
This level is a world of wood and buttons!

http://i745.photobucket.com/albums/xx100/Fenderjt/Title01.jpg
Ok so people had been asking for me to make a standard platformer so I thought id give it a go!
This level contains NO GLITCHES! Which is a difference for me as I always add some 3D layers here and there!

So I started this level off using stone and wood but then changed it to just two types of wood and realised it looked better.
I have been up and down with this level having difficulty deciding what materials to use. I was going to make it chocolate and wood which
looked really good and would have been different to all the wood levels out there but unfortunately some parts of the level didn't pull it off
So wood it is!

I got the name Wooden Buttons as im using wooden buttons in the level lol! Simple

This level has taken me aaaages, I have been stuck for ideas at most times but in the end ive pulled through it!
I wanted to think of different game ideas, some ideas have probably been used before but I tried my best to make them different.

The fonts I have used for the level name are by our very own Comphermc! And the cog idea at the end was an idea steve_big_guns thought of when
we was messing about in create mode ages ago! Thanks guys

I all hope you enjoy this level as it is something different to what I usually create. I usually go all out with the 3D layers and colour but I wanted a change
and here it is!

Id appreciate feedback. Thank you
Please see images below. Thanks to Omegaslayer for taking the photos!

Guess you're wrong Fender, OmegaSlayer is not in those pics, don't know what a PS3 is, I never got a copy of LBP in my life and I'm not registered in this forum
And don't know about buttons or wood. ?__?
Guess I must try the level then...

This was great! IMO, it's your best one yet: The music didn't quite fit for me, but the gameplay was brill, and the visuals were like cake.
I think you should add the option for a race at the beginning. The gear was quite fun, and I thought the score bubbles were well placed: A nice long level, with lots of wood. Maybe you should add different wooden buttons other than the one? And other decorations.

Five stars and a big fat heart! Sequel, sequel!!

I kept seeing your title saying something about wooden buttons and, it just made me want to see what was all the hub-bub about. So I just tried this level out 10 minutes ago and was instantly hooked in the great gameplay. After playing, I had to heart it for later. Whenever I get my video stuff in order, I'm so recording this awesome level.2010-08-10 11:36:00

Well, I think I'm one of the guys that asked Fender to do something different.
When I played her veeeery oldest levels I saw some kind of potential XD
There were some interesting platforming ideas, fun stuff, excellent camera angles, cool lighting.
Still it was mixed with the naivity that ALL creators have had in their first levels and the desire to do something different.

Then she took her time, she experienced a lot, she did what she had to, that is starting to acknowledge her possiilities and unleash them, so we have stuff like Funky Fun and Dual Shock at one side and WhiteChapel and Anne-Marie on the other side, where she divided what she wanted to do, focused on, built that and strike the target.

It's clear that she uses a lot of passion, seriousness and fun in building her levels.

So, the times have riped to challenge herself with something new, courageously avoiding her trademarks, and start from scratch, someone that not even the most celebrated creators are willing to do.

And we have this Wooden Buttons.
I had the pleasure to test it a bit, seeing it growing, changing, getting refined, and I saw a lot of hard work week by week.

And even if as a friend I can sound quite biased, the level is AMAZING.
This is one of the level that is TRUE to the very platforming core nature of LBP.
While many creators have led the way in the most imaginative and unpredictable ways, this game is meant to be quick, light, fun and jumpy since we all have experienced in our friends' pods that it's impossible to stay idle and not running and jumping every second.
And in Wooden Buttons this "compulsive mania" is satisfied
The contraptions are fun, the visuals are simple but unique, the difficulty is very well balanced, the length is right to never get bored.
But most of all it has a WONDERFUL pace, you go from "room" to room in a quick light way, and that's AWESOMESAUCE.

I read someone wanting a sequel; that would NOT be right, leaving Fender the chance to unleash her creativity is the best way to play something cool and fun, like we did with this UNEXPECTED piece.

The level is asolutely a BLAST!
:star::star::star::star::star: and a <3

Again, excellent work and keep it up!

Hi Tia! I uploaded a pic or two for you, but here's some feedback

I thought this was a fabulous level. Very different for you, which is a sign of your versatility. I just loved the look of it and the variety of platforming. I had to really think about a couple of things, which I always enjoy, and there was a really good balance of easy to medium-hard obstacles to traverse. It reminded me of a jackofcourse level (not sure if you'd take that as a compliment, but it's meant to be ).

There are a couple of issues I wanted to mention. First, in that section where the underwater springboards throw you up and over those thin columns with spikes on them, I skipped everything to the right by being able to jump up onto one of the revolving platforms above it (which weren't revolving yet as I skipped the switch too). I did go back around to see what was there but only when I found the switch to rotate the platforms did I realise I wasn't meant to go the way I did and there really wasn't any benefit to backtracking - except seeing the scenery of course. Also in that section, if you go right to the edge of the scenery (to the right out on what looks like an external ledge on the same level as the rotating platforms) there's a gap I managed to fall into (because I thought I was meant to) and I got stuck down the bottom inside the structure - and in the water. Maybe some invisible DM there for curious nincompoops like me? I manage to escape many a level, so it's not just yours

All up, I had a ball and gave it 5 stars and a heart. keep the goods coming, love

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! Lmao! The amount of times i tried to jump up on that bit and i couldnt! I left it because i thought it was impossible! Wow you must be some jumper Missy Doll! Im glad you done it as i will now sort it. Thanks!

And regarding the other bit where you can fall down, i will check it out and sort that too! How embarrassing lol! Theres always things that will pop up after you publish a level anyway and im glad they were spotted sooner then later so i thank you for letting me know!

Great fun level Fender.

The choice of materials is very nice and has a clean look to it. The gameplay is good apart from a couple of places where spinning wheels aren't quite fast enough and don't throw you high enough and I died lots of times before they did, but that's a minor quibble.

It just goes to prove what I've been saying for months. You don't need lots of stupid layers or annoying glitches to make a good fun level. I think it's your best level yet and I'm looking forward to more of the same in future.

Great job Fender
This was really fresh coming from you, where it seems the game play was core.
And once again you?ve pulled it off gracefully, the game play was seconded to none I couldn?t fault it even if I wanted to.

The flow of the level was great too, it didn?t just feel like you whacked everything together at the last minute. You could feel your self progressing through the level, not just clearing a bunch of random obstacles until you landed on a score board.
You had a few original ideas in there too which is always a sure winner, plus you put your own little twist on the generic parts (theres always generic parts like swinging and spinning wheels ect, so don't take that as a bad thing) making it feel as though we wasnt just playing a clone of one of the many wooden levels out there.

The visuals were nice too, wasn?t highly detailed but it couldn?t have been with the amount you had in there, game play always had priority which game the level a really good length.

And I don't think it was a difficult level at all as some others have said, I cant remember any point of the level I had any trouble with game play or design (bad camera angles for example). I wouldn?t even class it as tricky, nor would I easy. I think you got the difficulty spot on.

The only thing I could say bad about it if I had to is just the style over all. Not that it was bad, just that there are way too many ?Wooden Platform? levels, they even mostly have the same name. I think they?re really good, fun and well made levels but they all just feel the same.
This one truly did stand out though, not for one second did it feel like I had played it before. I?m just glad you didn?t use this music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRalYOKcXuE), that really would have drove me crazy playing the level XD

So yeah, amazing job.
I?m starting to think is there anything you cant do, you?ve pulled yet another ace outta your sleeve.

Well done

Just finished playing it several times. Wow - it's got quite a bit of well-thought-out gameplay, it's polished, and extremely fun. It felt like a bit of Spice & Co, a bit of JackOfCourse, and some other influences mixed in - but it also had a fresh feeling to it and several standout gameplay moments. I totally enjoyed it.

Anything negative I have to say are nitpicks, and are mainly because they came to mind while playing it:

Area where there are 2 spinning wheels. You drop down, spin and get to the 2nd wheel, then spin and try to launch yourself onto a ledge to the right. Getting from the 2nd wheel to the ledge seemed harder than it should be... almost like a better camera angle could help to judge, or putting the 2nd wheel slightly to the right.

Then, at the bottom of the same area in the water - bouncing over the moving spiked walls (which, by the way, was brilliantly done) - the final bounce seemed to be a bit high and launched me into the spikes. Not a big deal, but for a new player it seemed a bit too difficult to get past - but once I practiced a few times it worked well. Regardless, LOVE the area.

Once I got past that and was platforming above this area the platforms start turning so you are supposed to time your jumps when the spikey ends are down. An issue here - I got up to the area, and started running to the left and jumped. Only after I jumped did I see the platforms turn to the spikey end.... so I died a bit cheaply there. I would suggest timing the platforms to start turning earlier so the player can see that the platforms are spinning before they try to jump.

VERY small issues though. I went back and played it twice - great stuff! 5 stars and a heart.

I came over this while scrolling over to the 2nd page of cool levels, which in fact does contain a lot of good levels most of the time and there it was. I decided to play it and I was stunned like :O
The gameplay was nice and flowingly and the visuals were eye-candy. I got through everything and enjoyed my stay.

It was in one place in particular I died. I got no pic to point out where, but it with the moving platforms and the spikes you have to jump over. Hope you figure out which part. Anyway, I always kept on jumping that second spiky thingie because I was too concentrated on admiring the level's good look, and maybe also because it blended a little too well in the level :/ That might have been me though being slly .

A lovely level through and through, 5 stars and a heart!

This level shows off really clean lines and the smooth, nicely paced platforming. It's a very smooth level, which looks incredible with the wood theme you went with.

Hey man! Just played this level cause it was on the "Busiest" page and saw you were on LBPC so here I am!

This level was amazing! Your title and everything when perfect with the theme you had. The visuals were simple but they looked awesome! The sound effects that you had really brought the level to life! And the brown water that you had at some parts really added a great effect. The gameplay, as you said it would be, was a platformer. And what a great platformer it was! Nothing throughout the whole level felt repetetive at all and most things felt very fresh and new. Great job with this level man!

Five stars and a heart!

Great platforming level FenderJT. The visuals looked neat as it is filled with as what the title mentioned and the gameplay is brilliant. This level seems to remind me of Wooden Platform made by ferrrch. Great work and this level deserves 5 stars and a heart and you deserve one too as an author which I forgot to put after playing "Ja Ja land" or "The Spirit of Ann Marie".2010-08-14 01:08:00

I've had this open in my browser for the past few days 'cuz it looked cool and I didn't wanna' forget to play it. I have to say that the visual style is not really to my taste (I like things to be flashy), but you really made it work and kept it consistent throughout. The platforming was solid and enjoyable and the whole level was just fun.

That said, I have a couple of quibbles. IMHO, if you need arrows to point the way, then maybe the level design just isn't intuitive enough. Arrows just don't look that good and they can sometimes feel patronizing. The part with the repeated sack cannons is kinda' tricky because of the camera angle: it would look like I was right on track to land in the next cannon but I would end up shorting it 'cuz the angle threw me off. Other than that, everything was great. I especially liked the vertical rollers: I'm surprised it never occurred to me before to do something like that.

I played this with several of my friends, which all commented that its a great level. I like how you focused purly on gameplay with this level, which is a nice change. The wooden button theme goes very well with the random design and used a good choice of colours and materials. The gameplay is what the level is about and it awesome . All the various player launchers, spining wheels etc are all great fun to play.

i played this yesterday i think. some spots looked a little cumbersome and blunt, but it was stylish and a nice theme overall - not sure if i would like a different wood or not. the platforming was fantastic... kinda felt like a little bit of Moving Parts mixed with alot more logic mechanics and platforming, which is a great combination. good stuff... really hot level.2010-08-14 15:13:00

Okay, I played it a few days ago, and what can I say, That was one fun level!
Like her other levels, this one maintains the fun and Original style the fenderjt seems to include in every section of this level. The puzzles were always fresh and felt brand new. The art style is not my thing, but on this occasion it was a pleasure to see. The title serves the level right as the buttons and wood combo makes the levels appearance very much more impressive. The puzzles went well with the level, and I was thouroughly entertained the whole way through.

All in all, once again fenderjt serves up a steaming hot helping of fun with a side of great visuals.

:star::star::star::star:'s and a <3 from me! Absolutley fantastic and a pleasure to play!

I decided to hit the community levels this morning and saw this level. I distinctly remembered you from the forum (I've been absent for many months now) and thought I'd give your level a spin. Boy am I glad I did... it's wonderful!!

Your choice of material and sticker colour are beautifully matched. Gameplay is simple and straight ahead platforming which I love just as much as a good story-based level.

WELL DONE! Hearted and 5 stars on my end.

Incidentally, I've decided to check out your other levels. I just started "The Spirit Of Anne-Marie" and am already excited to see what you've done after seeing the opening scene with the spirit and the bookshelf bit (which is BRILLIANT!)

Cheers!

Nice work Fender! No pink at all in this one! yay! lol Lots of wood and buttons which is a cute combination. Loved your attempt at a strictly platforming sort of level for a nice change and was well done! Like Ninja said, somewhat of a Moving Parts sort of level, but I have to add there was a touch of jackofcourse in there as well. That being said, I felt at times the rooms were a bit on the massive scale for that sort of thing which might cause some issues with several players, but still it was really really fun. I'd have to add I think it got even better about a third of the way in like you really started hitting your stride and playing with some other ideas.

Keep up the great work!

Certainly was one of the best levels I played this week. I loved the theme, the look, the game play and the creativity. I really like where you went with this one Fenderjt. You got it spot on and left me wanting more. MMMMMMmmmmore. I really can't wait to see what you've got next.

I don't mean this as a slight, in the slightest sense of the word... but most of the levels you've become known for... really didn't hold much challenge or allure for me. Please dont get me wrong... they were originally, unique and slightly silly... fun! But this is something completely different. This is an incredibly designed platform that showcases all of your uniqueness as strengths.

It is a beautiful playing, beautiful looking level. I really enjoyed it very much. The departure was appreciated and it allows me to view your talents in a much more favourable light. Congratulations!

I just played your level tonight (thanks to a sad thread).
I am super happy to have tried it because I am not deceived. I think it's your best work so far. While not revolutionizing gameplay, you went for something more accessible and solid. I loved the experience. First off, you look there is quite unique. I love that when I play community levels. I want to feel that somehow I never played your level before. Another thing that charmed me are the fast parts with alot of wheels and bouncing platform. I like when there's some action in a level sometimes! You sound work was also remarkable.

On the downside, it didn't sit well with me that sometimes, the white material can be grabed and sometimes it's not. As it happened with me, it can give some mixed signal to the player. I also thought some camera weren't that good but I can't remember exactly where, I would have to show it to you live. I remember a couple of time where I felt the cam wasn't focusing where I was supposed to go. Anyhow, that wasn't major or level breaking.

Keep up the good work, I like what I played there and will try to play you next stuff.

I have to say, this is one of the best platformer-type levels that i have found on lbp so far. I was impressed with how the different types of wood and colours worked so well together without looking samey! after 5 minutes of gameplay i was completely hooked - i played it with some friends again, and they were of the same opinion!

5 stars & a heart from me : well done! i will be recommending this to all my friends to try!

Finally, after a pathetic attempt to play Wooden Buttons on my own (if you saw my track record with spikes you would understand) I have managed to reach the scoreboard with a very big helping hand from mr and mrsv!

I am impressed Fender. Thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining, exciting and very, very slick. Loved the choice of materials and colours.

Very well done.

Just played this yesterday the visuals were incredible and it looked like with all the buttons and complex..ish shapes the level would've overheated and there would be no room for and gameplay or platforming like on other great looking levels, but the level was filled with awesome platforming and was a very good level to play even though i did kill myself hundreds of times trying to get through the spiky grabbing wall area

5 stars and a heart
