LittleBigPlanet Delayed

Archive: 33 posts

For the few of you who haven't noticed yet, LittleBigPlanet has been delayed until the 27th for North Americans and the 31st for Europeans due to controversial religious content in the game. Now, regardless of your opinion on the matter(feel free to express that here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=3245)), try to hold tight and wait for the game. I don't know who made the decisions or why they were made, but that's how things go sometimes. Make sure you understand that Media Molecule is not behind this. This is Sony's doing, and if you're upset, don't blame Media Molecule for it. They are doing their best to cope with the issues at hand, and this is just as much a suprise to them as it is to us(two days ago Alex Evans emailed me and confirmed the release date as the 21st for North America and the 24th for Europe, so he just found out recently as well). We'll hold down the fort for you if you feel the need to take a break from the site to cool down or do whatever you need to do, and we'll still be here when you get back.2008-10-17 22:24:00

Thanks, I'll probably be gone for a while then.

Now to find a large noose, and the moron who decided on this..

Sounds like bad news to you guys, but to me, I can still get my copy of LBP before launch, now that it's coming out later.

Good news for me I'm happy! I'll get to play with you guys on the same day.

i just got the call from gamestop... if this is sony's doing and not media's or esrb's then i'm very disappointed. Don't guarantee a date when you can't fulfill it. if your own stupidity causes you to release a game with a patch u must download to play... so be it.

look at rockstar, they released gta with the tucked away coffee mod, and when it broke free it ended up ebing more of a publicity stunt then a set back. they really couldent still make launch and just make a mandatory update?

would this "religious" content really turn it from an E game to an AO rated game?

this is the second time sony has disappointed me with lbp... the first being never getting my beta code from their news site on lbp... i fulfilled all the requirements...
i find this completely ridiculous

To quote Cartman:

Meh, I'll honestly wait 1 more week.

Wow! I just realized that the 27th is a Monday! I still can't get it at midnight!!! The least they could do is put in on a Friday or Saturday. 2008-10-17 23:40:00

Oh wow, stupid is the only word I can think of for this. This close to the release date, this is inexcusable customer service. You just don't garantee something this anticipated to people then tell them to wait a bit longer with not even a weeks notice. I'm not happy about this at all. I took a day off work and I just started there so I took a chance (the beta just left me wanting!). No problems but now what, I say my doctor misscheduled the appointment and it's actually on the 27th?!? 2008-10-17 23:55:00

Actually this is good news for me! No more LBP distractions during exam time =D

Wait, how does this affect the Australian release?

I can only assume it will be in the same relation to the other releases. Pushed back however much, however. I dunno, maybe it'll be later because they need to ship them further?2008-10-18 00:26:00

Okay, the delay of a game is no reason to lash out at a religion like that. For matters religious, I am more than happy to wait. If the game is released and people are offended by it, it not only hurts those people, but also the game's image. Obviously you don't understand these people's beliefs, but that is no reason not to respect them.

It's Sony's responsibility to make sure the game does not offend. Complaining about waiting a week or so is selfish and ignorant.

The same way it affects the European release. I have exams that week too, I don't need the distraction either.

The Cathedral in Resistance wasn't even offensive. It's a real place and the game depicted it pretty much in the same way it is in real life. Well, I suppose the lyrics are truly came from the Qur'an too so...

The interesting thing is that what caused the issue to be found before launch were stores selling the game before the release - had this come up on the 21st, it would have been patched with a trade program for those who don't have online access (though why would you buy LBP then?)2008-10-18 01:12:00

By no means have i been tracking it the longest.

I meant it as a general statement, you can tell because i didn't specify who i've tracked it longer than.

But i don't see why making Parts of a religion, or places, general knowledge...is a bad thing.

It's probably because they feel like it lessens the value of their religion.
To have parts of a sacred doctrine used a something as petty as background music

:/

i don't know, but that's just my two cents.

Don't quote me on this but I think the issue here is that in Islam they refrain from using actual quotes from the Quran within music and therefore hence the complaint. Religious songs called nasheeds are usually in praise of Allah but they are told to refrain from the usage of direct quotes due to it being the word of god. Like i said I am a Muslim but I'm presuming that this is why this has caused such a hassle, but feel free to correct me if this isn't the main point

Ah, that seems far more plausible, thanks for the information.

So if that's the case...Who created the song in the first place?

EDIT: Also, sorry for quoting you hehe

Erm the song if I'm not mistaken from a Somalian group and it is in Arabic I believe, I mean it is still on itunes and stuff like that but like I've said myself I read arabic but don't understand it fully so for myself to say I would have spotted it would be lying but others who do would have probably find out like they did
