You should throw in a few puzzles and switch-searching too 2010-08-09 21:08:00

Maybe you discover an ancient civilisation, that want you dead. They perhaps awaken when you take the crystal, so you've got to find an way to put it back in order to stop the ancient people from trying to get you.2010-08-10 09:57:00

Well, story isn't everything. If its not your forte, just keep it simple (e.g. put a car next to the entrance and put in the level description: "You are lost in the jungle... what will you find?"

Then you could put any secret civilisations and temples you want in without needing to explain why you're there.

thanks for all the suggestions guys. they're awesome! ill take all of them into consideration and most probably include them. i very much like the idea of the civilisation (although, icant make people D however putting the 'crystal' back could be difficult, but im sure i can figure it out. and yea i hope to include lots of puzzles in the tomb, hopefully a x2 area (encourages ppl to play again- with friends )
thanks guys

For putting the crystal back you could just make another altar and pretend it's the same one.2010-08-10 18:05:00

I've had a very similar idea for my first level! How strange.

Erm, best advice for level conceptualization i would say: Begin with a basic theme (which you have done) and from that think into the kind of situations a character could be in within that environment, don't be afraid to be original and do something unusual with it as thats exactly what LBP is for!!

Apart from the story and the environment (which you should put ALLOT of work into, the environment, amongst other fundamentals, if a level is visually pleasing the gameplay can be second rate and still be percieved as better than other levels with better gameplay and drab visuals, keep this in mind!) you need to think up some interesting puzzles. MAKE SURE you check out the logic pack as this will help you on your way immensely with creating complex puzzles that give any level that brilliant edge. So puzzling is a very important aspect aswell. You essentially have to find unique ways to make pressing buttons fun, again really experiemnt with this, go wild and don't be afraid to conceptualize ANYTHING you want. If you can think it up its very likely you can do whatever it is in LBP.

Also remember that LBP is a platform game so make the gameplay fun too, don't just have flat edges where you run through a nice environment and press buttons to make stuff happen. Use your Y axis well, and remember to cleverly utilize all 3 planes along the X axis. You'd be surprised how much more fun simply adding a few obstacles for sackboy to jump over will be.

If you find it difficult to remember it all, break it down into constituent parts and work on each one. Something like: Gameplay/Puzzles/Characters/Creatures/Environment/Storyline/Aesthetics.... Something like that so you can break each bit down further and think on where you can take 'x' bit without having to worry about everything else.

Remember its FUN to create so don't get to worked up about making a sick *** level. Just experiment and see what somes out. The more you do it the more your brain will become 'Littlebigized' and the more robust and clear your inspirations will become.

Good luck man and enjoy your creating!!!

The greatest part about making lost civilizations, is they don't need to look like people, or sackboys, really, just a capsule-like shape, with an eyeball or three, makes a pretty good looking npc.2010-08-21 02:29:00
