A Possible Slight Problem With Local...?

Archive: 17 posts

I was thinking, and if I were to, say, make a team siege game on LBP2 using Sackbots and DCSs, one team could be on one side of the level, the other team on the other side of the level.

Although, what if one of those people just so happened to be on local multiplayer? Would the camera follow player 1? (Worst idea, since I'm player 2 quite a bit. )

Would it zoom out to show everyone? If so, then what if the other person was on the other team? You could easily peak over and see what their team's doing! That's no fair!

If it doesn't allow you to enter separate seats for different areas, I know some creators would give us local players a good ignoring, just like they do with "ONE PLAYER ONLY!" levels. (Which SHOULDN'T EXIST, but that's another story... Most of them ARE good...)

I trust Mm will do SOMETHING, but if it's anything like the multiplayer create camera... It'd make me sad.

Any comments? I'm probably just freaking out about nothing... I hope.

(Plus, I don't see why this would fit in Speculation & Suggestions, since this isn't really speculating, it's more...
This board-ish.)

I agree with the OP! I cn never play OC with my brother bcause of that camera, the radius is too small, and i go and do something without thinking that my brother is there too! I was hoping that each player on local could go splitscreen in online create, and possibly in levels. MM could make the setting to creators as Level settings = Players = Allow splitscreen format for this level?2010-08-08 14:09:00

There is no splitscreen.

I don't know what you can do about this, other than wait till the game comes out and try it. I haven't heard much about multiplayer cameras.

Because of the little that I've heard about multiplayer offline cameras, you can't have splitscreen. Durr.

The problem with splitscreen is you're basically putting two tvs on one screen. This is a pretty big problem with all games especially a supposed graphic-heavy game like LBP2. As games get bigger and prettier, splitscreen goes away. Putting two images on a screen would makes the game slow down like a mother.

I have no idea how they are handling multiplayer at all, they really put themselves in a weird position.

Everyone can have their own camera. It's at the creator's discretion. As far as I know, levels with separate cameras simply aren't going to work offline.....

Sorry for going slightly off topic, but whats wrong with 1P only levels? I love playing those.

sorry for continuing off-topic, but i agree with Klaww. I don't like any level that imposes rules on the user that aren't enforced by the game, and the game allows for a maximum of 4 players. seeing one-player only limitations is annoying.2010-08-09 18:09:00

You say the game allows for a maximum of 4 players.... So what? If you want to strip it down, this is a game where the creative community define what the game should be. That is the very essence of what the game is and just because the underlying engine supports up to 4 players, does not mean every level has to. The game allows for me to fill a level with fart sounds and burps... is that a good enough reason to do it? Similarly, the game allows for a minimum of 1 players, so by your logic we should never ever see co-op levels. Or are you going to tell me that is somehow different?

When will this community learn that trying to box creators in by imposing arbitrary limits on what should and shouldn't go into a level is detrimental to the community and goes against the very core of what makes this game as wonderful as it is? If someone comes up with a good mechanic that is literally only possible to do effectively for one person, or if they feel like making it a 1 person only experience, for whatever technical, artistic or personal reasons they may have, then I say let them. All you need to do is play the level on their terms, which is perfectly reasonable, considering that they were the ones who made it and gave it to you for free, don'tcha think?

The same goes for plot, scoring, difficulty level, every aspect of the game design. This "every level should support multiplayer" viewpoint I keep seeing is absolute nonsense. Your preference on how you wish to play should not supersede the creator's desire to create what they want to.

WRT the topic. Yes, it might be annoying that some mechanics will not support local multiplayer, and it would be nicer if it was supported, but I'd rather deal with that annoyance than have people not creating awesome levels that require online multiplayer.

whoaaaaaa.
i wasn't really looking to make anyone angry. wow! intense

my opinion should not supersede the creator's opinion but that doesn't mean i can't hold that opinion, alright? i think the best levels will support multiplayer, because i think the game is most fun when played multiplayer.

and more specifically, local multiplayer. i'm not saying that i don't see the awesome things that could be done with 'splitscreen', but if local multiplayer gets ditched by the good creators then i will cryyyy

Well,If the Second Player was on your team, you would just have to stay with him, Like on Fat Princess. But I agree Split Screen should be put in the game.2010-08-09 21:51:00

I love them too, but I'm barely ever playing by myself! It's always either local OR online multiplayer for me, or I'm creating.

[Everything Rtm said]
I know that, and agree with it mostly, I guess it's just those levels that you could do all of it on on 4 player, and then there's this one bit that messes up... Mostly elevators, sack trackers, etc... By the way, nice post...

Im not ditching offline multiplayer
Me neither.

I just hope that people will be AWARE of the local play restrictions, and alert us in the level title, or description.

By the way, sorry to anyone, if I seemed a bit ignorant about my whole "one player levels shouldn't exist" comment.
