Will LBP2 ruin multiplayer gaming?

Archive: 46 posts

I realized, when LBP2 comes out, people are going to make a lot of single player experiences with the direct control seat. Whether it be a single game of pinball or a full fledged RPG, one way or another, your other friends are probably going to get left out.
Here's hoping people take the time to set up their levels for use with more than 1 player.

Answer to thread name: NUUUUU!!!!!!!!
It will not, because you can make minigames. Many people will make multiplayer minigames... Someone make simple platformers, and advanced platformers o_O.

Mm's levels are made for 1-4, and they have many of the things that you're saying would ruin multiplayer. So watch and learn.2010-08-07 21:24:00

Idunno. I have a feeling a lot of Creators are going to force me and my friends into Controllinators extremely often to play as a certain character.
DO NOT WANT.

What's wrong with that? Having a sackbot be the character that everyone in the level says you are is way cooler.

Besides that that wouldn't actually ruin multiplayer.

Not if the Creator doesn't put in 4 controllinators, which people probably won't.2010-08-07 21:38:00

Well then, rate badly and move on. Don't we already do that?

Exactly.

It's true that direct control may mean lots of levels are better for 1 player, but there will also be many levels (many more than in LBP1) specifically for multiplayer. The three competitive minigames that were shown at E3 (and which I played at the Beta Rooms last week) are perfect examples of this.

Not gonna happen. Agreed with everyone ?p there.

Plus, we might get splitscreens, so that is even better for multiplayer!!!

DO NOT WANT.

then don't play them, no offense but did you just make this thread to complain about these type of levels?

in LBP1 almost EVERY SPOTLIGHT LEVEL is 1p only and it hasn't killed multiplayer gaming....so i don't see how a game with upgraded content will change this...since now more people will make "rock em sock em sackbots" or something of the sort

Like 2 player 3 player or 4 player direct control tank? Sounds fun even that I'm not a big tank fan.

Well, in relation to what you said regarding their only being like.... 1 controllinator and such on alot of levels, I would hope that Mm include the ability to set the number of allowed players in levels.
This way, when searching for levels with 2 players in the pod, any level that the creator specified would require only 1, or more than 2 would be filtered out.
In addition to this, they'd likely need to add the ability to disallow multiple local players, if the level involves each Sackboy spliting up.

Effectively, this lowers the number of search results and stuff, but at least it means nobody has to play a level where their buddies have to sit out. Or one where they don't have enough players to complete it.

Sometimes stumbling into a multiplayer level, alone, with the use of the dreaded Quick Play option was an issue. Hopefully they note that and do something to stop it being an issue in LBP2.

As you probably know by all the replies so far, it won't ruin multiplayer. Period. 2010-08-10 14:50:00

In theory: you could copy the entire level four times and have each player on their own version.2010-08-10 15:41:00

Holy crap that is brilliant. I think I'm going to do that in some of my levels in LBP2.

yeah but you'd just have 4 extremely low quality levels since you'd have to be thermo friendly

That's not the same thing as split screen though, is it?

As always it's up to the creator. As you can see in the clips of LBP2 (was it the adventure trailer?) there's FOUR furry chickens flying around. It's made for four players. It'll always be up to the creator to screw it up or not.2010-08-11 12:59:00

Just to clear things up, there's no splitscreen.
Believe it or not, it's extremely hard to do on current gen consoles because of graphical limitations and whatnot.

Ok, yea soz, theres no split screen but in online play mode, each player can have their own cam. Thats what i meant, soz for the confusion.

What is with the exaggerated title? I've been noticing a lot of that lately. get a freaking grip.

Aside from that, I see your point. At first people will probably make more single player levels than not. But, I imagine that it will be for a couple of reasons; Good Multi-player levels tend to require more planning and forethought. Also, many people play solo when they are learning a new app.

Anyway, I don't think either of those have much to do with the structure of LBP2.
My solution will probably be to place "2p", "3p", or "4p" into the title.

Allowing people to create a single player experience =/= ruining multiplayer gaming

In fact, that doesn't make any sense at all. Why would you ever think that?

I belive LBP 2 will not ruin the multiplayer. Many people will be on their moon creat new levels, but they will invite their friends. And later, after the level is finished, they'll go online and play community levels.

And at the beginning many people will go online. They want to be happy with everyone else because they've got lbp 2 yey

I'm sure they'll be levels for everyone, not just single player or levels with friends. I'd love to see mini-games like seen in videos and such but made by us guys. Just be patient and I'm sure our minds will be full on blown by awesomeness.2010-08-14 11:31:00

@OP:
If I say yes, will you guys stop making all the "LBP2 is evil because (why LBP2's eil)" threads?

Not really, I've seen really good levels that don't take 1/4th of the thermo, and A LOT bad quality ones that almost overheat...
Not to mention the fact that they're managing the thermo differently this time around, so this may be easier.

emiters will also not use the thermo of what they're speculated to emit, but only what they emit (for what i heard) so this may bring new ways to cheat the termo as well, or if not, the old method may still work, if that doesn't work either, then we'll probably just find another way to cheat the thermo dude.

Remember that its a good creator's job how to make the best out of their thermo, so I'm sure this won't be a problem if such cases arise.

Well say you're browsing levels with some friends. You hope into a level which puts player 1 in a controllinator. Everyone else just sits around at the bottom of the level or leaves.
I can see your guys' point, but making truly single-player levels will be more of an annoyance than anything else.

Another tiny rant about controllinators; people, I don't want to play as your SUPER EMO HIPSTER DEATH character or your FURRY SUPER KAWAII LOL character.
Don't get me wrong, the controllinator is an amazing little device, but I have a bad feeling that a lot of good creators are going to take this the wrong way.

that's why levels have DESCRIPTION sections...so you can READ as people tell you it's 1 PLAYER ONLY so you can AVOID them

read my last comment over and over and over again especially the part in BOLD

Everyone will make everything in LittleBigPlanet 2, just like they did in LittleBigPlanet 1. In fact, I don't see how there's not going to be waaay more multiplayer levels in LittleBigPlanet 2, considering the additions they have in the game. There is no way LittleBigPlanet 2 is going to ruin the multiplayer..AT ALL.2010-08-14 18:52:00

LBP2 will ruin multiplayer gaming for sure.

Everyone will stop playing all the other video games of the world and the video game business will be monopolized by Media Molecule.
