"LittleBigRipOff? Sony says it can commercially exploit user created content"
Archive: 18 posts
The complete article: http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=32770 Sony have recently made changes to their PSN terms of use, notably adding terms and conditions for user generated content. No doubt, this is a legal precaution leading up to the release of LittleBigPlanet, obviously there needs to be guidelines to allow Sony to define and take action again inappropriate content. But what really got my attention were some of the rights Sony have concerning your generated content? You also authorise us [Sony] and our affiliated companies, without payment to you, to license, sell and otherwise commercially exploit your User Material Seems someone's trying to win the console war. | 2008-10-17 16:33:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |
That'd be irritating if they start selling your levels without you seeing a penny or cent of it when you created those levels for free distribution! | 2008-10-17 17:01:00 Author: flakmagnet Posts: 1084 |
That's kind of lame but what did we expect? | 2008-10-17 17:16:00 Author: docpac Posts: 601 |
I think they probably mean more on the lines of using people's levels in tv ads etc. | 2008-10-17 17:40:00 Author: Crowlerzors Posts: 241 |
or remove your level, and offer it as an DLC | 2008-10-17 18:08:00 Author: illyism Posts: 146 |
What if EVERYBODY went on strike and didn't publish any levels? O_O | 2008-10-17 18:11:00 Author: Unknown User |
Then Sony have still got your money from you buying the game. They wouldn't care. If the servers weren't getting used, they'd take them down. | 2008-10-17 19:03:00 Author: flakmagnet Posts: 1084 |
MM need to stand up for our rights.. They've had no say in this crazy mess around with LBP and Sony and now is a brilliant time to speak... | 2008-10-17 19:22:00 Author: TheArmedReaper Posts: 1543 |

This doesn't worry me. You agree to the EULA, this is what you get. I doubt they'd take down your levels to offer them as paid DLC, because you can just download any user-created level you want anyway, people could already have them on their HDD. You make levels for the enjoyment of it. Sony owns LBP, and all the tools you use to create your levels anyway. You didn't fund the creation of, or distribute the game, so that's how it works out. | 2008-10-19 02:45:00 Author: Dropbear Posts: 272 |

I couldn't have said it better. This is just pure technical jargon. As someone said before, they probably have a whole marketing campaign ready that involves showcasing user-created levels. | 2008-10-19 03:01:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
Lol I dont care, I would be honored if my level made it onto the advertisement for LBP on TV | 2008-10-19 03:05:00 Author: Quarter Posts: 30 |
They could also just compile all the best levels and sell or offer a dlc pack or display them as "look what an average joe made" commercial, website or whatever. I doubt they'd just rip off the people who took the time to make something really cool. Time will tell. | 2008-10-19 03:43:00 Author: docpac Posts: 601 |
If they sell my 'user made' content, Ill just publish the level again making the paid DLC useless. | 2008-10-19 03:47:00 Author: Quarter Posts: 30 |
Who cares, when I'm not profiting from any uploaded levels anyway. All I want is to have my levels played and enjoyed. (Oh, and a UK RELEASE DATE PLEASE) | 2008-10-19 20:49:00 Author: FlowersInHisHair Posts: 126 |
