Split screen and FPS Possible

Archive: 11 posts

LittleBigPlanet 2 will enable users to create split-screen games for up to four players

During Play Magazine's exclusive studio visit to Media Molecule, technical director Alex Evans and creative director Mark Healey have discussed some of LittleBigPlanet 2's potential.

Top-down and side-on viewpoints are now easily acheivable, but thanks to a new tool, players will be able to explore during multiplayer.

"Now playing online - and this may sound rather techy and boring - you can have divergent cameras," confirmed Healey.

This means "people playing on different machines can be looking at different parts of the world."

If only LittleBigPlanet 2 could do first-person shooters, eh? Well, it can - sort of. One creator has already made a Space Harrier type game using the tools, and a lot of neat tricks.

"If you go into Create mode and look at it side-on, it's actually flat!" admitted Evans.

You heard it here first - it is possible to build competitive multiplayer shooters in LittleBigPlanet 2. Modern Warfare 2 had better watch out.

Check out the full, exclusive eight-page LittleBigPlanet 2 feature in issue 195 of Play - out today, and available from all good UK newsagents, the imagine eShop or digitally via iTunes.

Lols.

Nothing new here. No splitscreen has been confirmed and the first person perspective (in that starfox shooter thing) is not what they think it is and wouldn't work for competitiveness.

Either way it's still news, and people will still get hyped up about it, and that's still fun.

Hardly new news:

It is possible for each player to have their own camera when playing online (no splitscreen was evident).

And of course

mediamolecule @thesixthaxis hate to burst your bubble, but that's not split screen - those cameras mean *online* players can be in different places...

Will splitscreen work for same- console players?
Or is that the splitscreen Rtm was dismissing as Not true?

We're not sure if actual local splitscreen will work yet. Mm hasn't released anything saying there is or isn't local splitscreen. But, you never know

A first person shooter, like a REAL one, with depth, is easily achievable. Just make a circle, put a DCS for controls on it (Movers), and put a camera on the side of the shape. There you have it, a first person shooter.2010-08-05 16:12:00

Erm. No it won't. I think NowGamer misinterpreted what Media Molecule were saying. As Syroc said, there's nothing newsworthy here, so...

Locked.
