Media Molecule did me wrong!

Archive: 6 posts

My PS3 recently crashed and all of my online data was lost. I e-mailed MM and they told me that they were very sorry and there was no way they could restore any of my 100% completion and platinum trophy. I told them they could even check my PSNID: gorple and I could contact them using that account. I then e-mailed them back and asked if there was anything they could do and a MM employee told me I could download a saved 100% game from somewhere but wouldn't allow me to get trophies (that's fine I have them all anyways). I asked where I could recieve this information but they dumped me. No e-mail for 2 months. Brought up the issue again and still nothing. I am really frustrated because I want to start playing again however I dont want to do another 100% completion! I don't think anyone would and they should have helped me find the 100% saved data. Will you?
Thanks!

couldn't you create a new user on your ps3, go to Sign up for PSN, then click use existing account?2010-08-05 04:42:00

It really isn't MM's fault if your PS3 crashed. I understand you are frustrated but slagging off MM will get you nothing except a locked thread.

The info would have been stored on your PS3 HDD not on the LBP servers or anywhere online.

If you are that worried about savegames you can backup data onto USB thumb drives. How much time have you spent searching the internet for 100% savegames?

I found this (http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26739448) within 20 seconds. However! I do not endorse the use of other peoples save games. Just showing you that it isn't hard to find.

Just remember that it is not Mm's job to use google for you. They are very busy people. The fact that they addressed your original query should be enough. They told you all that they could do to help. Methinks that link in the above post should be helpful to you.

OK let's get one thing straight. In no way am I saying media molecule is the worst or I despise every fiber of their existance. I was simply frustrated they could not help a customer that has spent a good $100 dollars on an awesome game through pre orders and DLC. And yes I did google it thoroughly and nothing came up. I am not asking for someone to do all the work for me. I was just asking for a point in the right direction. Thank you for sending me a link.2010-08-05 05:39:00

Mm is definitely not responsible - for the stability of your PS3 or the fact that you don't feel like utilizing the backup feature that LBP offers. You can back up your saved data at any time without even leaving LBP - if you don't make use of that, that's not Mm's fault, that's yours. It's also not their responsibility to provide technical support of any kind - I'm actually a bit surprised they even responded to your email. Any popular developer like Mm gets a ton of fan email on a daily basis, so the fact that they took the time to point you in the right direction is more than nearly any other developer would've done. The worst part is, they took time out to try to help you when it definitely isn't in their job description to do so, and you assumed they were blowing you off.

If I really wanted, I could probably get you the guy that wrote you the email and ask him to explain to you why he didn't continue to provide you with tech support, but if I did that, I think I'd be considered an enabler. Let me make it clear to you now, so you understand what you're buying when you pick up a game from a store: when you purchase a game (like LittleBigPlanet), you're buying it as is - glitches, bugs, issues, crashes, etc. If the game shipped, for example, without any audio whatsoever, it's not the developer's responsibility to fix it. You are not promised any post-purchase support, from anyone. Any support provided is purely complimentary.

Case in point: Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/driving/bigrigsotrr/review.html). I won't go into detail, but suffice to say that the game sold on store shelves for a retail-ish price, and it was an absolutely terrible, broken game. However, if you purchased it unknowingly on day 1 and brought it home to discover how absolutely atrocious the game is...oh well! Neither the publishers nor developers have no legal responsibility to fix it or provide any support for it. If you were to continuously email the developers asking for support, they could completely ignore you and be well within their contractual obligations to do so.

Now, I'm not saying that's an excuse - in this day and age, we expect quality post-purchase support, both in the form of tech support and patches. However, just because you've grown accustomed to it doesn't mean it's ever been the developer's responsibility to personally provide support to the millions that purchased the product. Do you know how big the Mm studio is? About 35 or so people, total. Only two of whom whose professional responsibility it is to handle the community and its various members, and it's never been in their job description to provide tech support when the game breaks down. When it comes down to it, they're immensely nice but also immensely busy people, and that means they don't always have time to be sending out support emails to everyone who needs it.

In any case, I can tell you from personal experience that a Sony tech support rep wouldn't have suggested finding a 100% complete saved game somewhere online and using it for your own - they're usually not that bright. In that respect, I'd say you got better support than you could have hoped for, so there's no need to be complaining.

If it weren't obvious enough already, locked.
