Have I found something new?

Archive: 23 posts

I was messing around, and I found an invisible square! Not a line like a uber thin material, a square. I can't corner edit or select this shape easily. You have to highlight the whole shape to pick it up.

You can walk on this material, but it appears to be in the thin layer when it is grabbed.

In comparison to a thick block of material, it's outline from the popit is right in the middle of the object.

Is this thack, or could I somehow have accessed the thock layer?

Now that I think about it, I think it's thack, but I'll still post this.

Theck / Thack / Thin gas?

EDIT:

You can walk on this material, but it appears to be in the thin layer when it is grabbed.
Nevermind. How did you find this anyway?

ok, if you think it is in the thack layer try sliding (grid off) in front of theck layer.

There are invisible materials out there in the thick layer but the only one I know about is Thick gas and you cannot walk on it. I would like to have a look at it making invisible platforms that you can walk on in the thick layer is not new. I have a couple, invisible glass, invisible DM, invisible rubber.

But if when you grab the item and corner edit it and it stays invisible I would say it is something worth mentioning.

It's not theck, confirmed that, it's not gas, you can walk on it.

Camberly6 is gonna post pics in a sec.

I found something that fits that description almost exactly while messing around with a candle and trying to break it into pieces, except that I cant walk on it. I also can't change the thickness. Can you?
I am currently using it in my lockbox level to stop players from getting the keys without the code.

I found it whilst working on my LBL contest entry. I thought there was some invisble dark matter in my way, so I picked it up and it was a square and I was like 0.0 and I saved it and started messing with it. It's only in square form though, but you can place two to make a rectangle. Also, you can sticker through it. It can't be stickered, unlike invisble gas.

Oh, I can't corner edit it.

The hero has arrived!

As you can see, the second picture shows that its not that theck layer of a checkpoint, nor a 1 layer thick object. This would lead you to believe that it is thin, but you can walk on it. I was with him at the time, so I deserve SOME credit. =(

Note: The orange outline is our mysterious material.

Of my knowledge I think that compherc used this to stop layer switching in his "cloudy with a chance of teamwork" level so unfortunatley I think it has already been discovered but congrats I have never known how to make it as to date! 2010-08-04 23:47:00

That might have been the invisible gas glitch that ToykyoMegaplex uses, which stops the switching of layers. I would need him to clarify that however.2010-08-04 23:50:00

Yeah, if we found something new, we'll publish the quick tutorial we made that describes its properties, along with the object as a prize bubble.2010-08-05 00:01:00

It's not thin gas. It's material that is sometimes left behind when a piston or other connector breaks. I believe it's called Dragon Matter, and it's been around for a while. It has limited use considering the other invisible material glitches out there.

Sorry if I have burst any bubbles.

Sokay, we only spent about 15 minutes with it.

So, what layer is it in?

It's in whatever layer your piston was connected to.2010-08-05 15:51:00

Ok, I can switch layers with it though, and it appears to be in the middle of a single block of thick but that's where the pistions are, so *shrugh*.2010-08-05 16:50:00

I was fooling around with a piston and found this too... i kept testing to see how i did it and eventually found out i made a piston that is attached to nothing i forget how i percisley did it but its saved in my popit and i coulkd detach the part that makes it attach... but i think this fits your description... the candle you get from the weddings (the red one) if you detach the flame there is an invisible fiery block on it if you dunk it in some water it extinguishes. i thought i was the only one who fouund this

Sorry for the semi-bump, but, it's commonly referred to as piston matter. It's uneditable, thin, and square-shaped.

"Dragon Matter" is a piece of material on the Terrible Oni object that turns invisible if you shrink him a little. It was popular on the cool pages but it's not very useful either because apparently you can only edit the shape with bombs and it turns visible if you make it any bigger than approximately the width of the collector boss.

Dragon matter? Never heard of it before.

But yeah piston matter,I find it more annoying than anything else. I run into it at least once everytime I create something. I've never really looked into much, but I want to find out what causes it to 'break free'. I remember I had four of the darn things lying around when I was trying to build a vehicle, they came from rods though, I accidentally captured one with the vehicle.

It's no different to any material that's been shrunk in the same way as your "Creating Invisible Materials" guide. It's only called "Dragon Matter" due to someone egotisically naming that particular piece of material after their own PSN ID (DraggyZ IIRC).
