The Musical Delight

This is as much a level idea (I will come to that) as speculation and suggestions. I watched gevurah22s videos from E3, and under the second UFO making video, where a simple rhythm is played, using a timer and sequencer, a normal sound object and a microchip to place it all. Then I began tinkering in my mind how I could create songs and music with these tools. Something like this formed up in my mind: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=20983 I probably have wasted my time doing this, but it was fun making it! If you want to understand further, go to Donkey Show's thread with all the videos and watch the part two "UFO building part 2": https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=28747-LBP2-E3-2010-In-Depth-Vids-with-Spaff-Tom-amp-gevurah22-(me)-15-vids-up-now!!! A timer function connected to a select function, repeat, and then connect the select function to audio objects. This can practically go on as far as thermo will allow, which makes room for quite the big songs. And everything into one single microchip. Yay!!! And now to my level idea... I want an interactive music level... It will be like a normal platforming level, but the music will change depending on your actions and where you go. That means, the music goes all the time, but if you, for an example, choose to pull a switch and something epic happens, the music changes track and picks up a faster and more rapid tempo, and when you are past the epic part, it goes back to slow. Now, the change must alway happen when it stops on the end of a 4 or 8 beat. It must be able to change track instantly, from when something happen, and then go back again when you are over it. That is my level idea for now... | 2010-08-03 17:06:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
Cool stuff bro I hope that I can help you bring this into fruition. lol It looks like I made friends with a modern technical Mozart. I know that your musics gonna be awesome with the kind of planning that you just did. | 2010-08-03 18:35:00 Author: lyrradXOX Posts: 285 |
Thanks It all depends on how how the logic will work. What I just drew is what I think this might look like, based on what I saw in one of the videos of Gevurah22. I believe it might be like that, but I may also have to add certain elements in between. The music will be no problem though (I hope), just the logic set up. | 2010-08-04 10:49:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
Sounds cool! It's pretty unclear though on how user generated music is going to be created second time round though, so it might not be such a logistical nightmare after all. Im praying for some kind of sequencer or editor that lets you really get stuck in on creating music, giving you the ability to create almost anything you want, much like LBP1 does for platforming levels, im hoping LBP2 will give you the same freedom musically. | 2010-08-04 11:59:00 Author: Mr_T-Shirt Posts: 1477 |
Ermm, I can't see your picture. D: Any chance you can upload it to tinypic or something? | 2010-08-05 00:44:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
I am thinking about having three different tracks, and it will switch tracks depending on what happens. That might work... I think. @Aeroforce22: Really? You can watch the video instead, and then figure out how the music maker might be, as I am describing it. I will try though to see what I can with the pic. | 2010-08-05 12:34:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
So what I'm thinking is that you have the timer (hourglass switch, whatever) connected to multiple selectors? Or just one with "x" amount of outputs? (In other, words, one selector would play out just like the video, except the selector would have more than 4 outputs). | 2010-08-06 01:46:00 Author: AeroForce22 Posts: 392 |
It is one timer (connected to itself as well, so it goes infinitively when activated) connected to one selector, then each of leads to another timer (connected to itself... etc.) which then leads to a selector that leads to musical stuff. That is how I think it will be. | 2010-08-06 21:41:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
I hope there will be a tool that has a menu where you can create your own music rather than having to use sound effect. That is unless you can tune sound effects to a certain note, i never got how u made music in LBP 1. | 2010-08-07 01:08:00 Author: Captnmatt Posts: 96 |
@Captnmatt: If you did not catch (for now have now caught yet) You can play Morton's music shop (by A_Morton) which I think has a tutorial, and there are other versions, like the Lux Aeterna level along with IceMaiden's music levels (search for them) that also shows a way. The difference though, is that the Aeterna and Icemaiden's are entirely music levels, while A_Morton's way fits for small pieces of the levels I think. | 2010-08-07 14:13:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
sounds awsome, judging by your cake level, this is gonna be epic! | 2010-08-07 14:57:00 Author: Jonaolst Posts: 935 |
I believe I will make this level with three tracks that match each other but are all in a different tempo. The main is medium, the lower is half as slow while the faster is twice as fast. The tracks will run all the time, while I will have a selector activating which of the three tracks are activated by the sackboy and his actions. That will be how it turns out. The scenery will be somewhat black and white I think, with different splashes of colour to fresh up the level now and then I believe. @Jonaolst: Thank you | 2010-08-08 10:28:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
