2.5 Problems Thread

OK.

So I downloaded the new update and like the other ones, I've found that there's loads of bugs and such.

When I try to reply to messages, most of the time it just freezes. I mean, I can still shut down my ps3 but I can't exit the message menu.

I've also noticed the typing speeds gone a lot slower when I'm sending messages.


Has this happened to anyone else yet? My PS3 must have crashed around 6 times now.		2008-10-16 15:36:00

ive had alot of problems aswell. no crashing just the typing speed and lots of lag in certain games and even slowdowns on some of my old ps2 games (guess what it is GuyWithNoEyes) but no crashing hmm........ as ive said somewhere else before i hope they fix this with a 2.51 or something2008-10-16 18:25:00

Hmm this is weird with mine it has actually fastened up my whole experience of PSN and also it seems like COD4 is much faster I noticed but maybe that's just me.2008-10-16 20:58:00

I find that typing messages is alot slower also when i watch a video my whole screen gets bigger so miss alot around the edges, then when i leave the video my media bar is also enlarged.

As far as i can find the only way to get reid of this is to turn your ps3 off and on again, or playing a game seems to turn it back to normal.		2008-10-16 21:35:00

No, you'll get an outdated version. They upload them with the latest when they make them, but sitting on a shelf, and with fairly regular updates, those don't last long. So yeah, your first thing to do when you start it up would be to update.

You'll probably end up with an earlier 2.x version. 2.36, for example. Mine was 1.83, but that was back in May. I updated it to 2.32, at the time. And so yeah, considering that 2.50 just came out, and 2.41 not that long ago, you'll definitely want the extra features. (Like TROPHIES! In-game XMB! Etc.)

It shouldn't take that long, considering you've got a decent connection. Mine's just so-so, and it was only fifteen, twenty minutes to do a pretty significant disparage between versions. I think you download the whole thing at once, rather than progressive, but I'm not sure on that.		2008-10-17 04:58:00

Correct Mark, it will upgrade the PS3 to the latest firmware with one file.

Clarify, if you could:

When you download an update, you get everything, from version 1.01 to whatever the latest version is, all downloaded and installed at once. And there's no splitting up of this, into, say, each 1.0 or .5 increment. . (I remember there was one update a bit back, I think in the 2.3 section, where a very minor update took just as long as the one to get from 1.8 in the first place, as well as overall impression, so that's what I'm basing this on.)		2008-10-17 05:13:00

From what I understand yes, lets say you found a launch PS3, it is my understanding that all you would download when you first connected it to the net would be ver 2.50 and it would update your firmware from say ver 1 all the way to 2.50 with the one file.

The small .5 increment patch was to fix a bug in the firmware that caused some PS3's to brick if I remember correctly so they quickly released a revision to fix the error.

No, that's right, it'll probably take a while though. less time over there than it would in the UK, but don't go expecting to jump straight into any multiplayer gaming very quickly!2008-10-17 07:29:00

All he said was that you have to turn off your PS3, not that hard. If it helps, touch the power sensor on your PS3 until it beeps, then take your hand off. 		2008-10-17 13:53:00

Are you using a hd setup? Maybe go through the display setup and if it is 50 frames per second, not 60, you need to do it manually as it may be your problem..		2008-10-17 15:51:00

For me it doesn't display the last log in thing properly: apparently my friend who got a ps3 6 days ago last logged in 20 days ago.

only problem i've found is that it takes a long time to load up the internet browser on my ps3 now.

Like it will load to 73, then go back to 53, then slowly up to 100 percent.

Not a big deal as I don't use the browser on the PS3 but thats all I noticed wrong with the patch.

I love the auto- turn off feature for both the controller and system though.		2008-10-18 22:22:00
