In-group thanks

Archive: 11 posts

I have really wanted to thank people for posts in-group but have been unable to do this.

I am guessing that this is because the groups are not always publicly visable, and you run the risk of the thanks feature being abused. Is this correct?

Right on the dot.
Anyway this will probably never happen but i never understood why we couldn't thank in Blogs (Blog posts or blog comments)

I saw it was gone in the ''Say something nice about the person above you'' thread. It was a real thank party, though.2010-08-02 21:48:00

I think it's because the thank mod doesn't work in there. In order to do that either the author of the mod would need to program it, or cc would, and he can't program or edit the v ulletin code. So probably impossible until some vbulletin coder does it which I don't think will happen :/2010-08-02 21:59:00

thats only because that thread was in forum games, all forum games are not allowed, (It was moved there recently)

Even if the mod were expandable to groups, we would never enable the feature there. It's unfortunate, but people simply can't be trusted to not abuse the feature, which can easily go undetected.

We have enough fun keeping track of rep abuse via duplicate accounts... there's no need to make it easier. And you know... an explicit "Thank you for that post" is a nice way to offer your thanks as well. If it really bothers you that they don't "gain" anything, you can manually Give Away Points (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/xperience.php?go=gap).

Tracking duplicate accounts for rep is easy though no? Same IP adress (well you would have to question them about having a brother or sister) and its pretty easy to see that someone is thanking the same person for no reason2010-08-02 23:20:00

Too many people there spamming for posts and thank-fest, I mean, if you're complementing someone, you're ovbiously most likely getting a thanks...
Forum games posts don't count and don't have a thanks button.

@comphermc yes.... Thank you for that post.

As previously stated I do understand the reasons, it's just that sometimes I don't want to say anymore than "thank-you" and I would rather not fill the thread with unessesary short posts.

but thats ok.

Strangepom, don't worry about the short posts in the social groups (I assume you're referring to social groups?). Like you, I've wanted to thank people with the button time and time again to give them some rep for their awesome comments, but being thanked without all that bizzo is actually a bit more genuine in some regards as you have to make the effort to say it. And if that's all you want to say, friend, that's all you need to say. No-one will mind.. except perhaps the 10 character minimum limit but just whack a smiley or two in there and you're good. 2010-08-03 13:00:00

Or, if you really want to give a thank, just find a random post they put up and thank that 2010-08-03 13:13:00
