Power-ups abound!

Archive: 10 posts

Alright, I have had all these ideas purculatin' in my little mind, mostly about muffins and power-ups, and so me and all my sackboy friends have decided to make our ideas heard!

Ok, first and foremost on my list, a sort of 'Swiss Army Knife" power-up called the Zyconic-Invention-Pack, or ZIP for short. The ZIP is aesthetically a backpack with braces running down your sackperson's arms, and then connect to a pair of gloves. Using the ZIP is relatively simple. Press triangle to switch your tools, and R1 to use them.

TOOLS:
1.A tiny propeller comes out of the pack. Holding R1 will allow the sackperson to blow a massive gust in front of them, blowing away enemies, objects, etc. Also having this equipped upgrades your sackperson's jump ability by a bit.

2. 2 long, steampunk arms reach out from the pack. These arms let your Sackperson pick up small objects that ordinarily ungrabbable, i.e a small chunk of metal. They can also use these arms to climb about upside-down.

3.The gloves become steel-coated rubber gloves! This allows a sackperson to touch electricity from the side ( falling on it still makes boom-boom) and hold that elecricity in their hands. This delathizes the harmful material, and lets your sackperson shoot an electrical bomb at their foes.

4th and final. Tiny claws come from the pack, unzip the sackboy, and either take out stuffing, or put some spare stuffing in. Pretty self explanatory.Holding up on the right stick and then pressing R1 fills the sackboy, while doing the opposite takes some out. Big sackboy can break through wood and sponge, while little sackboy can slip through mouse holes and things of that nature.

Well, that was the ZIP. Give feedback. Overpowered? Impossible? Or maybe the best thing since some swiss bloke fused a knife and a screwdriver together?

Ok, down to some more minor stuff. Not as awesome, but probably more possible than the ZIP. Ok, so new mechanic idea, Invisible lasers! Since you probably won't have cigs to reveal them, you're gonna have to use some heat-seeking goggles! Use these to see invisible lasers, and maybe also see in the dark!

Another thing is a tractor beam. It's pretty much a reverse grapple hook, use it to suck in sackbot, points, or your happy gadder friends who get a bit too wild. It also has strength and range sliders too. Also, it will be harder to pick up a rock than a sponge, etc.

On a sort of unrelated note, you should be able to set an icon along with the player color. This could maybe show up instead of a heart when something is hearted, I dunno, but my idea to be able to have a "health" powerup along the way, that would restore the lives to the checkpoint. And the player's icon could be the power-up symbol! (MUFFIN MAKE ME AND CHECKPOINT STROOONG)

Last and, meh, sorta least, is a shield for your sackperson to hold. Any bombs or plasma ball or regular objects, or anything, really, will bounce off. You can set the shields reflectiveness, so it could just topple to the ground, or be shot a little ways.
This could make for an interesting explosive volleyball minigame.

Well, the sackboys say they're tuckered out and need to go drink some creative juice, so 'till we meet again, leave some muffins next to your bed or else Ninja Krabby could CUT. YOU. UUUUUP. Byeeeeeee.

Wishful thinking is nice. Somehow I doubt any of these will actually happen...mostly because they are too specific.

Mm said that in order to have their new tools be as useful as possible, they needed to boil them down to the basic unifying concept behind all of their specific requests. This was the idea behind the DCS. While your ideas may be pretty cool, they are not generalized. This makes them useless for about 95% of the levels people will make, while a generalized concept such as the DCS can be implemented into 95% of them no problem.

I think instead of a tractor beam, a vacuum would be better just to suck or even blow things away! That would be useful 2010-08-02 04:59:00

ZIP- Unrealistic, and just oo much pretty useless stuff.
I kinda like the vaccum idea, not your tractor beam, but the vaccum.
The shield could make for some interesting 'bounce this at that' levels.

But like Moony said, these are quite specific tools, and probably won't be put in.

Hmmmm.... well maybe the ZIP could be seperated and simplified, I really am not bothered, but a thing to let you walk on the ceiling, IMO is a must.2010-08-02 21:25:00

With the Gravity set all the way down, you might be able to do that? Or maybe if you rotate the camera angle completely to make it look like you were on the ceiling and then hooked a DCS up to a sackbot to fix the backwards controls... It could give the appeare of walking on the ceiling... Anways yeah I agree that gravity boot would be completely amazing. I would love to run towards a wall, jump, land on the wall, and just keep on running right up it. It would be fantastic! And the use is there... I mean... It could create verry interesting levels and mechanics...2010-08-03 16:32:00

Being able to go bigger, or smaller would be awesome. I like how you said that it's just adding or removing stuffing. Really added something to it.
I don't really like the idea of the ZIP. There's to many abilities, in picking up a single power-up. But the 'go big, go small' idea is epical. I can't see a reason, for Media Molecule not adding this to LBP2.
And if they made an animation for it (unzipping, dragging out stuffing, going smaller / creating stuffing from thing air, unzipping, putting stuffing in, going bigger) that'd be even greater, even if it only made it for the artbook/drawing board.

But, say it was actually made, how would you control it? You need to remember some of the features all the other buttons control, especially with the new Direct Control feature, as well as possible other new features. It could of course be, that once you hit a power-up station, with a + or a - sign, you would grow/shrink, depending.

Sackbotz can be scaled. Them and some creative emitting and demitting makes for shrinking and growing.
The Grappling Hook can be reeled in and out = somewhat of a tractor beam.
Power Gloves CAN grab lethal objects (not THAT sure, but might even be true ).
Turning the camera 180 degs simulates negative gravity everything. A Sackbot, a gyro and possibly a few movers *could* make Player-only negative gravity possible.
And agree with Moony.
