Tweak Objects/Materials Gravity

Archive: 36 posts

Alright, so instead of just globally tweaking gravity, what if you could make a circle of any material, and tweak its, and only its, gravity, so you could achieve a sort of Super Mario Galaxy effect. Running all the way around the circle, without falling. It would also attract other, smaller objects. And you could also set other objects to orbit around it. You could tweak their speed of orbit and distance and such. Just a thought.2010-08-01 20:04:00

good idea...but they would keep the global tweaking gravity still !!!2010-08-01 20:31:00

You can, I'm pretty sure of it. I need to do a couple things right now, maybe later I'll post a link proving it.2010-08-01 20:33:00

Yes you can, there is a gravity switch that you place on an object and you can tweak it however you want. Though there is an option to change the gravity globally though. 2010-08-01 20:38:00

Yeah, you can change an object's gravity. What you can't do is create the Super Mario Galaxy effect.2010-08-01 21:45:00

You can tweak it's gravity, as in you can make it like pink floaty and 'defy' gravity? That sort of way? It is a wonderful thing, granted, but the Super Mario Galaxy effect would be sooo cool. I've been dying to make a sackboy walk ALL the way around a circle. Thanks for the replies, anywho.2010-08-24 09:46:00

There's also another topic of this very same thing, and in there, we speculated about if Sackbots could have rotational movers in them making them point to a magne key in the centre of the gravity.

Objects can have gravity fields like that.
(Mover + rotational mover pointing at magne key + planet + magne key + wiring)

When he's riding the tram-thingy in one of the vids, he was upsided down (he flipped the scooter). I think you can only do that in the controllinator tho. But since you can attach them to sackbots too, it's kinda like a mech and I'm sure people will find a way.

It might be, the gravity setting is percents, and it just MIGHT be able to go negative... and reverse gravity...

A whole easier trick is to use camera rotation to turn the camera upside down.

I though about that but then left and right would be swapped .... right?

i was planning to remake limbo (xbla) and this is a critical part

But if there is no negative percentage like you said, my plan would be that the player controls a sackbot and on the sackbots feet is a material and ill use that to change the gravity. similar to the scooter video

I think I saw magnets in the beta I played.... Yes, some kind of thing you can attach somewhere and which attracts something....
So, if this really works that way, you could put this magnet on a circle-shaped material and make it only attract a toy which sackboy can control via controllinator. So this should be like super mario galaxy, right?

...LBP beta passed?

EXPLAIN

Well, I played the latest version of LBP 2 when I met Spaff and Christophe at Gamescom (and stayed there for - I don't know - 4 or 5 hours?)

And there I could see how Christophe later explained some kind of magnet. He attached it to a wall and tweaked sth. and then the ball next to it got attracted and stopped right in front of the magnet.

Don't worry, beta isn't over yet^^ But I got the chance to sign in for it already (Thank you, Spaff and Christophe^^)

HAH, I had a thread fearing that they recruit their extra beta members from there...

1. Beta hasn't started, so i dont know why you are saying it's not over because it hasn't started.
2. I doubt you got a chance to sign up just for meeting Spaff and Christophe
3. Your lying. Because this information wouldn't have been ignored. And also considering you only have 2 posts and just joined this month, it seems to me that you want to just get peoples hopes up and crush them because it's not true. I'm 100% sure you lying.

So stop lying please, we all know that magnets do not exit (not in the gamescom build anyway) They may exist at release, but considering some people on the forums here played it at Gamescom, they would have reported Magnets. But they haven't. So please don't lie...

1st: I didn't meant it this way >.> Read the post I answered: He said "Beta passed?" and I said "It isn't over" - Learn to read posts >.>
2nd: Go and ask him. Go and ask Spaff. It's not only me who signed up. There were about 20 others
3rd: WTF? I'm definetly not lying! And yes, I joined 3 or 4 days ago but that doesn't mean I'm a complete noob, you know? I would have signed in years ago if I had known about this webpage.

Aabout the whole magnet-thing: I don't exactly know, what it was, but it worked just like I explained in my post above:

And there I could see how Christophe later explained some kind of magnet. He attached it to a wall and tweaked sth. and then the ball next to it got attracted and stopped right in front of the magnet.
And I don't think everyone saw that gadget because
1. The gadget might be hidden very well in the popit - even I didn't find it when I tried to create sth.
2. I was 1 of a few who tried the create mode. Others only played story-levels.
3. I saw Christophe explain it only ONCE to a few people on 1 (!) day of the gamescom (thursday).
4. There were about 10 little-big-planet-2 demo-builts (which only contained 3 Storylevels and few minigames) and only 2 beta-builds (which were used by christophe and spaff to explain more about lbp2). So the chance that someone in this forum knows about them is extremly low.

So stop claiming things you know a s*** about >.>

...I wonder how much beta members more Mm is going to hire? 50? Jeez.

And as for the debate above:
IF the beta didn't start yet, it's silly to say it isn't over, rather than it hasn't started yet, if that was your point.

Hmmm. I hadn't thought about doing it with magnets... well played MM. Well played.

WHY does everyone want to copy SMG(2?), instead of making something new, fun and innovative?2010-08-31 05:39:00

I wouldn't trust that guy. Greth206.

Jeez - go find a hobby! There is no reason that I should lie, is there?
I don't care about my level or my Overall-Activity or everything you are rewarded by LBPC!
So shut up already if you don't have something relevant to say!

WHY does everyone want to copy SMG(2?), instead of making something new, fun and innovative?

Well, all in all it shouldn't be an exact copy of SMG - We only want to copy the pysics^^
At the moment I'm thinking about a boss fight where the boss id the circle in the middle and you have to run around him and defeat arms which come out of him^^
This kind of physics sure is interesting

I have a strong suspicion that the magnets are just an application of movers (mover on object set to follow key on "magnet"). Simples. Most likely one of those very simple creator tricks that an observer believed to be an explicit tool (remember goo, everyone?).

As for gamescom people being signed up for the beta, I have no idea, but I wouldn't say it was that unlikely.

However, none of that has anything to do with the topic of "Tweak objects / materials gravity", does it?

That's very likely! Thank ya^^
Well, at least it does work like I described, right? I just didn't know what exactly it was and refered to it as "magnet"^^

...well, maybe you should TELL that you weren't sure WHAT it is?

I think the name is the most unimportant thing about the gadget. The relevant aspect is what it can do - and that's what I explained.
Anyway, I actually said that I'm not sure what it is:
