Haha this sounds like quite a cool idea, and I'll certainly be writing an article to compete with everyone. The prizes are awesome and all, but they're more of a bonus for the winners. Everyone else will enjoy writing and reading the articles, I hope 2010-08-01 19:25:00

Awesome idea Fastbro! But can I ask why you want people to write articles about LBP? I think anybody would be happy to tell you why they love LBP. 2010-08-01 19:27:00

I thought It'd be fun to see what sort of stuff our community would come up with.

Emitters and My Favourite Uses

[b]Whatever kind of level you are creating in LittleBigPlanet, you will have no doubt have used the emitter for one purpose or another. They are the most wonderful tool in your Pop-It for many reasons, but the main point is their versatility. An emitter can be used in a variety of ways, for gameplay and logic alike.

For many, the best uses of emitters are in gameplay. You can emit platforms in a rhythmical fashion to get across a gap, or have a grab switch emit a useful item. Many people even use emitters to give away score bubbles, although this can backfire if the emitter is not set properly.

Gameplay wise, my favourite use of emitters is in physics based challenges, such as the one found in the PS3 level series Jack McSack by Wyth. In such challenges you would be required to stand on one end of a platform and a rock would be emitted onto the other side, sending your sackboy high into the sky. This use still amazes me every time I see it, and is a real testimony to the physics system on LittleBigPlanet. I would love to see this stretched further, with a whole physics/emitter based level. One idea that springs to mind is a variation on the before mention technique, whereby you can change where the rock is emitted to give different heights to which sackboy can jump. I challenge any of you to implement this in a level – it would make my day!

As mentioned earlier, emitters are also used widely in logic based levels for their ability to disappear, meaning events can be timed and logic switches can be reset. The emitter opens up huge new possibilities in all kinds of logic, so if you’re not using it yet – then why not!?

My favourite emitter logic was first brought to my eye in a level about boss logic by NinjaMicWZ. His level shows an item being emitted with a piston, which pushes out and across various magnetic key switches that activate different phrases of a boss battle. This is emitted every 10 seconds or so, meaning the boss can use different attacks and keep the player on their toes. This was a real turning point in bosses, and meant that difficult, original bosses were easier to create – all thanks to the emitter.

I’ve already explained the greatness of emitters, and I really believe this to be true. My own level uses them as a main gameplay mechanic and many other levels will have used an emitter somewhere. So if you have a gaping hole in your heart that needs fitting, then emit some red material into it – see, emitters solve everything.

You're going to be awake at midnight?
Just wondering.
Anyways, I like writing so I'm entering! (If I can type 500 words on the Wii/PSP that is)

Sorry, but PSPs tend to have a short character limit. So 500 words on the PSP would be impossible.

Now the Wii is a different story. I never tried connecting to the internet with my Wii, so I have no idea what the character limit is on it.

That was a great read Coxy! I was originally going to make a simple cart to activate some certain attacks for my next level, but your piston-emitted-mechanism sounds better!

I've said too much. Still, great entry.

Midnight... Uh... Well... *Changes PM to AM* And I hope you manage to enter, though it make take a while to write that much on the Wii!

My computer's Word is messed up and parental controls don't allow me on lbpc because it has blogs.

Great read custard! I couldn't stop laughing at the quotes!

By the way, mind if I give a try at the opinions? I just spotted a chance at a joke, and I can't resist.

The views and opinions expressed by those featured in this article are purely fictional creations of my own mind, which in no way are intended to offend. If you have an issue with any of the opinions, including your own, please raise the issue to my lawyer, who is currently unavailable. Any complaining, moaning or jibber-jabbering will result in the offender being tied up in an underground parking-lot and spending the rest of their days rotting there, surrounded by a small collection of assorted fruits, vegetables, and small aquatic life forms.

LOL

The only thing better than this contest are the entries. Epic!

I love my quote in famouscustard's article. It sounds familiar, and yet I don't recall saying it, so that must mean in the future I devised a way to travel back in time and provide that quote. Option #2 is that I am totally off my rocker, and option #3 is that famouscustard is really that brilliant. I'm thinking #3 with a touch of #2.

Create Mode And Tools
[By SketchNZ]

What would LittleBigPlanet be without create mode? Play Create Share? No, Just Play, like any other normal story game witch you will only play a few times after you have collected everything. But with Create Mode You can make your own Levels, Vehicles, Characters, Planets, Almost Anything!

Corner Editor: The Key to all good levels, You could say its any Creators best friend, after you get to know it a little better that is.

Material Changer/Materials: You would never have a good level with just basic wood now would you? NO! Make your level shine with a great selection of materials!

Connectors: These tools are useful But can also have BAD Mood swings.

Switches: Easy to use Gismo's and gadgets, make your level more than just jumping about.

Music and sounds: Ever played a game with no sound? pretty boring don't you think? Add some Awsome music or Funny sound effects to keep your levels and creations enjoyable!

Emitters: Hay where did that come from? I'm sure that wasn't there before. Use emitters for Logic, Minigames, and my favorite, BUBBLES! The Use's are endless really.

The Rest of the tools: These Are also Very useful! I mean what tool dosn't have a use?

Thanks to Create Mode and the Tools LittleBigPlanet Will Be one of my Favorite Games Forever!

Ok I managed to get on my mom's computer so here's my article:

On the LBPian Colour Schemes By: HappyGreenCactus

Hello to all LBPCentral users, this is my entry for Dr. Fastbro?s Writing contest.

In this article I will talk about level colour schemes that are visually attracting and/or pleasing. This guide/article will help you design your level?s colour scheme so it looks good for you and the players. For me there are 2 kinds of colour schemes, the contrasting or complementary ones and the analogous ones. But first I shall talk about the colour wheel.

The colour wheel

This is the colour wheel:
http://www.colormatters.com/images/6partwheel.gif
The colour wheel basically assembles the colours of the rainbow into a circle.
You may notice that red is opposite to green, yellow opposite to purple and blue opposite to orange, these colours are called contrasting or complementary colours. Colours that are right beside each other, such as blue and purple are known as analogous colours.

Complementary or Contrasting Colour Schemes

Complementary or Contrasting colour schemes are usually used to make flashy and attractive environments. As the name suggests, they use colours that are far from each other in the colour wheel. But this is not always the case, since you can use black and white or pink and brown or something along those lines. Good examples of using contrasting colours in levels are: Euphoric Physics by Fullgorr where the blue and pink contrast well, Timber Canyon by VelcroJonze where the green gas is visually attractive since it complements the wood. Also examples of black and white contrasting well include Article 5 by Spark151 where the level is pure white and black and Isla Moya by VelcroJonze where black and white contrast along with other colours.

Analogous Colour Schemes

Analogous colour schemes are used to make environments that are visually pleasing and make the player feel the level is nice and normal (well somewhat normal). You can use either analogous colours on the colour wheel or different shades of one colour to create analogous environments. Examples of different colour analogous schemes include Tera Cota by VelcroJonze where the colour makes the level have a relaxing feeling. Also, as an example of different shades of one colour is Blue Blitz by BlueBulletBill where, obviously the world is blue and gives the level a cold feeling.

Uses for colour schemes

Of course the main use of these colour schemes is to colour your level, obviously. But, using these techniques, you can create interesting obstacles. Since the eye is more attracted to contrasting patterns, it is probably easier to manoeuvre through flashy coloured obstacles, than through analogously coloured ones. Also, using colour schemes you can create optical effects that can distract the eye from looking at the obstacles, such as thin wavy lines that almost look like they?re moving(if they are moving, even better).

Conclusion

As you can see, learning about colour schemes can be a helpful investment for the future, not only in LBP, but in real life too. I hope you take this guide/article to heart and go ask some guy who can actually create good levels about colour schemes, not me.

Disclaimer

While this guide/article is supposed to be for the good of the readers, it is by no means reliable. It was written from 5 hours of 13 year old art class and 5 minutes of research on the first website that came up on Google. If it does happen to help, please thank this post, if it doesn?t, please refrain from pelting me with soggy apricots and/or badly coloured levels.

That was my article, I hope you enjoyed it.
