Who wants to help make a wipEout Game?

Archive: 32 posts

Hey guys, being a massive wipEout fan(atic), the top down perspecive for racing is the best thang evar for me to do this, but It'd be great of you guys could be involved. Obviously, there's a lot of inspiration from the WipEout 2D game in Playstation Home's HD Fury museum, (if you haven't seen it, it's worth checking out) but I feel that the LBPC Community can do better than Zico (seeing as who knows how many people have bgot the beat Zico trophy).

Who wants to help? obviously, there's not really much to plan right now, but if you guys want, you can drop in and out at any time.

*and i forgot to put "game" in the title and put level instead. Silly me.

I could, but considering my visual skills are limited, with the top-down view there's not much other stuff to do, but i guess we'll always make an use for Logic there!
And I have made some WipEout HD/Fury scenery logos (such as Aimi etc.) for my never-made WOut level.

You have? Cool, that'll help. Thanks.
I was thinking that for the music I could email Tim Wright and ask him to use a tune off of the first WO. How does that sound?

I can't. What made you think I could?

Well you could just position the camera on the back of an object in top down mode so that it looks like the back of the level is the ground. Than use the 50 layer glitch to make the scenery surrounding it. It's very easy, I am using this camera angle for my LBP kart level.

I'm not able to do the glitch, and It's not what I want to do anyway.2010-08-03 15:22:00

i am going off of things I know from things Mm has already shown, besides there are TONS of screenshots with this camera angle out there, so why wouldn't you be able to do this?2010-08-03 23:30:00

There is no doubt you 'can' do this. But how will the well it'll control is still under question. What I saw in the announcement video was cars that seemed to have really sharp turning. Now sharp turning with an over the shoulder view would not make wonderful game play mechanics.

But on a side note, the bumper car type game, I believe they called it Crashy Bashy or something? The round circular movers seemed to have completely perfect turning. So perhaps (which it probably is) the whole thing is just as simple as tweaking certain settings.

But still, untill we have the tools in out hands, there isn't really a way we can be 100% sure how well we can fuse together the various new elements together in a way that not only works, but works well.

Do you see what I'm saying LBP333?
I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm just saying have some patience. Wait and see. Once you get your hands on the tools, and create everything perfectly (which I hope you do ) then please, instruct us then.

Anyways I'm kind of hesitant on over the shoulder perspectives in LBP2. We are know we can craft beautiful 2D planes of existence, but how would you make beautiful 3D environments? Unless they implement some sort of 3D corning system, there is no way we'd be able to make things as simple as mountains for a 3D background... Unless you wanted it to be blocky... You could throw out the 50 layer glitch, but please tell me how you plan to use that to create good backgrounds for your 3D Levels?

Don't worry, no shame in a long post. I know how the mechanics work (generally) which is enough. With the correct logic and tools you can make an object move along both the x and y axis with traction varying on position. Now this is speculative in detail due to how things can be changed in the game before release, but the general idea of the tools will not change by release. Besides all i suggested was a different camera angle I never suggested game mechanics ( until you asked me ). and with all the decorations and materials, and with the correct art style, you can do this. It would would also work well with wipeouts city scapes.2010-08-04 00:44:00

Well, LBP333, I guess I was attacking you more over your Mario Kart idea other than this. You seem to have huge expectations, I just don't want you to end up disappointed I guess.
Lo siento.

Alright. Just a 3D racer, with good visuals strikes me as... difficult to make to say the least, but then again... look at the RTS that was made... Sure it does it in different ways, but that one there two probably pushes the limits of LBP2, same with the 3D shooter too probably. So I guess I can expect to be surprised a bunch.
Hopefully.
And question. How can I change the text underneath my nonexistent picture? I really do not want it to say 'lint' haha

Yeah, I remember that as well. Hopefully, this'll be a whole lot cooler which won't be hard to do.

Luke, It says Thread now.

Huh? Thread? What?
-Edit-
Oh, I see what you mean. I guess I was just used to seeing Lint... they must have changed it though when they added the LBPc Ex.
But how do I change it? Still on the unrelated note...

I'm not sure you can change it. Anyway, you guys think it'd be good to use Vr materials, or is the more reserved for a Tron Light Cycles game?
Hmm, could do that as well.

If it is a top-down... VR for some edges.
If it was made in LBP1 (and why not in LBP2), I think some MGS Cardboard edges and a glass middle would make a great glass-track section.
(Looks like Tech De Ra or Modesto Heights!)

I'd really like to participate!

How can it be made in LBP1?

BTW Tawarf, I can't add you, so helping out is gonna be a problem. Unless you're friends with anyone who will be on my friends list. We'll figure this out somehow.
