Interesting.

I watched the original (the English version) of the Office waaay back when it was first broadcast. Were talking 2001 here. I hated it. The only likable characters were Tim and Dawn (now known as Jim and Pam). I hated the character of David Brent, not once did I find his dialouge funny, intentional or not.

When I heard there was going to be a remake, I dismissed it offhand thinking, well, I hated the original (minus Tim/ Tim and Dawn's pranks on Gareth, the only redeeming parts of the show), so why would enjoy the remake?

Long story short, I saw the DVD of the first season of the US version on sale dirt cheap, I bought it, and haven't looked back since. All the characters have at least some human qualities, even those that are supposed to be irritating, you can still feel compassion for. Jim is far funnier than Tim, (his pranks are way better) and I <3 Jenna Fisher (Pam).

Compare the first episodes of both shows, they are intentionally very similar to each other, and in my opinion, the US version has better timing, better delivery of the same lines, and in my opinion is far funnier.

So yeah, I like the office!

I LOVE the Office, although i do believe the 1st couple seasons were much better than what they have now. Although still very funny. I actually just finished watching it,HAHA2008-10-17 02:50:00

Maybe its a british thing but when David Brent played the main character he was just so cringeworthy to watch, such an idiot, and every office has someone similar to that (therby creating a resonance with the audience). Some episodes I just had to turn off as it was so cringeworthy (the dancing episode for example).

For me the Amerian guy in the brent character just didn't seem to get it, and I found it a bit too sanitised. I also think the Tim and Dawn and Gareth had a much better dynamic in the british one. Gareth in the british one was so insanely odd it just worked brilliantly (when he rides off on a bike for a thressome in one episode I laughed like a drain).

Glad to see Ricky doing alright in the States tho, i reckon he deseves it.

Also have you guys seen 'Extras' at all.

I have all the seasons on DVD since I didn't start watching it until recently. It's pretty hilarious.

I haven't seen the UK version yet though.

I prefer the BBC version myself; Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are brilliant writers. The American series is good, but it's a bit played out in my opinion. It's far too typical for American audiences to latch onto something until the shows literally turn into nothingness for a half hour. That's where it's headed in my opinion.

Extras on the other hand is absolutely fantastic. So many laugh-out-loud moments. If you haven't seen it then do yourself a favor and look it up. It was on HBO as well as the BBC for those of you who don't know.
