The Giving Tree (Cinematic Level)

Archive: 6 posts

Since we're able to make movies, shorts or even music videos in LBP2, I thought I'd apply a classic to this idea.

The idea came to me one day in my summer classes, when we had to follow along and write a single-paragraph essay on The Giving Tree. After completing the essay, I had nothing to do and decided to head to my imaginaton- and thus, this was born.

The short is going to look like the cover- green, white and instances of red. In other words, http://www.englishexercises.org/makeagame/my_documents/my_pictures/2008/nov/E69_2por5s2.jpg

The game's release is still four-three months away, so I've got plenty of time to get all the details down or even take a few ideas.

I'm not going to make it so that it's funny or there are jokes, this is a somewhat sad story and doing so would ruin the name.

Discuss.

Thanks!

I'm trying not to take a heavy, full-blown game approach on LBP2, so I'm just starting with something as basic as recording actions, recording a voice-over, and placing a few cutscene cameras.

Please do not do green, white, and red! It's such an artistic clash, besides it would be great to see your own spin to the art style. I would recommend dark browns, blacks, grays, or dynamic colors ( color scheme changes as the story progresses ). Plus, remember to put the new engine to good use and use some good lighting that can provide heavy contrast. You want everything to revolve one emotion for it to be easily evocative, so some music that reflects that would be great to. I hope I don't sound to pushy here, it's just I loved that book ( it's a classic ), but I always hated the art style compared to the actually story, and this is just how I would change it.2010-08-01 08:21:00

Sorry, man, but my "own spin" is that it's on LBP. 2.

I'm trying not to change anything from the original. It's just going to be a simple short film that will look as close to the original as possible. (yeah, I know the actual book is in black/white but I find it hard to make characters plainly black and white, because lots of the time the original characters have a black outline around them and they'll end up just being boring plain white.)

and plus, I'm probably going to make lots of LBP2 movies, so I'll get to use dynamic lighting at some point.

I like the green, white, and red color style. I love how the red stands out because the white and green blend together + it reminds me of Christmas!2010-08-02 00:30:00
