Where do you get your LBP ideas/inspiration?

Archive: 19 posts

I was just wondering were you guys get all your awesome ideas(other than by playing LBP).
I get a lot of ideas in the shower, also I got a paper route, so to keep my mind occupied, I think up LBP ideas.

Mainly when I walk to school.... It takes about 45 minutes. Then another 45 minutes walking home.2010-07-31 17:34:00

Sometimes I dream about things that would be cool in lbp. The rolling balls in TC 2 is something that came to me one night while dreaming. The problem is I don't always remember what I dreamed.2010-07-31 17:59:00

You know those ideas Jonze doesn't remember? That's where I get my inspiration - thank God for the Dream Thief 2000!

In all seriousness, mainly through daydreaming.

I believe my mind is a highly chaotic place, and I cant focus on one thing for more than 2 minutes.

I think I just get random ideas in my mind from time to time, anytime, any day.

To me, everything is a movie - probably a sci-fi one at that. So naturally I get the vast majority of my inspiration from my favorite films.

Like a lot of people here I come up with ideas at random times, such as when I'm driving to work or paying bills or performing some other mundane task. I often scribble ideas in a notebook or, in a pinch, will also type notes in my iPhone. If I don't record my thoughts quickly they will be gone forever, just like Leonard in Memento.

(See, another movie! )

Great movie Taffey, I just bought that the other day, I saw Christopher Nolan directed it and had to get it. Quite confusing, at first, but once you understand what is going on, it is unbelievably good!!

I get mine from the pure frustration that comes from the most heinous evil known to manufactured automobiles.

Traffic!

Well that's one way, but my other inspiration comes from music. When I listen to certain music, I have an urge to recreate the feeling I get from those instrumental pieces.

I get my ideas when i remember ps1 games i have played like heart of darkness, crash bandicoot, Abe's Oddysee or even ape escape and somtimes i just think of idears when im playing lbp (other peoples level haha).

so if you want some ideas on levels just play some other ps games for a little bit.

Oh so many things can prevoke an LBP response. I never force an idea, it's usually through hundreds of levels of playing and creating. Once I've created enough levels, I'll find an idea I want to flow with.

Also when on PSP I take a few ideas from my PS3 levels, because hey that's not cheating - I thought of them already

Many ways. Day-dreaming, too much tv, reading, the list goes on. I'd say my main way is from sleeping at night and waking up with an idea. Then, I write it down for later.2010-08-01 01:08:00

I agree with Coxy, never try and force an idea. This is a game, so don't make the mistake of feeling forced to create.
Just thought I would impart one of my (very) rare words of wisdom.

I generally find my ideas in create mode itself. It generally starts from an art style, just as some people get levels starting from a gameplay idea, I find mine branching out from messing about with the corner editor. Afterwards its often daydreaming that gets me more ideas, often for the story, but the ideas (mainly gameplay) often have to be adjusted to fit LBP. My things rarely work first time.
