LBP2 Spell Checker
Archive: 26 posts
Hey, As Little Big Planet 2 is aimed at everyone , there will be alot of younger players -which of course is no problem- but of course younger people are inclined to make a spelling mistake . Sometimes spelling mistakes are alright but they can wreck the atmosphere of a level . imagine LittleDeadSpace by darkness bear if he put " wath was that, because was pretty freaky ! "<--- seems like a typo , or maybe " what was that , becuse that was pretty frecky ! "<-- now that would wreck the atmosphere a bit as somepeople laugh at that... So imagine if he could've opened his gadgets bag and scrolled to " spell check tool " and just opened it up and let the game spell check the level and point out some possible alternatives/corrections to mis-spelt words , also if it would point out censored words . it would be a biiig help . Oh and sorry darkness bear for using you and LittleDeadSpace as an example it just has a great atmosphere ! | 2010-07-31 14:35:00 Author: G-Hustla Posts: 81 |
Good idea! This will be great, and maybe jump-button will be more comfortable making text in his levels! | 2010-07-31 14:51:00 Author: Quay1000 Posts: 6 |
Great idea. Bad spelling in LBP really bugs me. If I play a level with really bad spelling I'll either quit or mark it down. There's no excuse for it. Just learn to spell, or then again do something really radical like maybe look in a dictionary. That's one of those book thingies with words printed on actual real paper! | 2010-07-31 14:55:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |

Bad spelling in LBP really bugs me. I concur! As English is not my first language, I normally use the joypad to spell check "difficult words" in between the text written on my keyboard. I know this might not be the most fleshed out feature, but this or an improved version could still do wonders for a lot of creators out there. | 2010-07-31 22:54:00 Author: Slaeden-Bob Posts: 605 |
Bad spelling in LBP really bugs me. Not also bad spelling, but people who seem the can't write other than Th1S!!!1one LOZL! But spell checking is not a bad idea. Other thing that bugs me is: while I kill myself to write right in english (not my primary language), some english / americans don't give a damm about sppeling rigth... | 2010-07-31 23:01:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |
wot dou u maen? i dunt agre wif tihs eveary1 cn spel iz aesy!!! Um... yeah seriously though, I agree with this, I was actually going to suggest this, but I wasn't sure if it'd work, LBP uses the standard Playstation keyboard, I'm sure LBP2 will be the same, meaning this would be tricky to do... But with voice recording I guess we don't need a spell check, we need a pronunciation checker! Lol! | 2010-07-31 23:03:00 Author: Doopz Posts: 5592 |
As Little Big Planet 2 is aimed at everyone , there will be alot of younger players ... Perhaps LBPC needs one too. If they did it in LBP2, they would need at least two versions (UK/US) for words like colour/color, etc. | 2010-07-31 23:10:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
Thanks for the comments guys , about the english/american issue : it doesn't really matter as they both sound the same and well to be honest most people should understand that issue anyway ! Pronouciation checker would be awesome , but hard for people with an accent / not speaking enlgish as a first language ! A year back I had brain training on my DS and Dr something beginning with K gave me 0 on the tests in which you speak cause he couldn't understand me ! And I'm fron ENGLAND!!! EDIT: Look at the underlined word , looks like I need a spell checker !!! | 2010-08-01 10:25:00 Author: G-Hustla Posts: 81 |
That's one of those book thingies with words printed on actual real paper! What are these "books" and "paper" you speak of Mistervista? Are you sure you're not just making up stuff? | 2010-08-01 10:51:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
What are these "books" and "paper" you speak of Mistervista? Are you sure you're not just making up stuff? Actually I beleive I have one of the devils myself ! I opened it up to see what it was like and I almost shouted " ZOMG!!! Hey what does ZOMG even mean ? " There was long words , short words , fat wrods , skinny words etc... But I feel so smart now !! I think I could take on rtm223 in a contest of MW2!!! MOHAHA !! Somebody ask him if he's up for the challenge ! EDIT: Woah!! We're off topic a bit now!!! | 2010-08-01 11:16:00 Author: G-Hustla Posts: 81 |
It isn't only spelling that bugs ME, also the other visual thignies there, such as excessive spaces in text (LOL , ZOMG !) (looking at you G-Hustla!!1!!1!1!!1!) | 2010-08-01 17:20:00 Author: Unknown User |
Perhaps LBPC needs one too. If they did it in LBP2, they would need at least two versions (UK/US) for words like colour/color, etc. When posting message, check if there's any icons with ABC and a green Check! mark under... ;D (I know it's a downloadable thing) | 2010-08-01 17:23:00 Author: Unknown User |
Yeah......only problem.... there is no LBP text editor... it's the PS3 standard. So you're talking about a PS3 general spell checker, not one specifically for LBP2. | 2010-08-01 22:29:00 Author: Moony Posts: 368 |
Yeah......only problem.... there is no LBP text editor... it's the PS3 standard. So you're talking about a PS3 general spell checker, not one specifically for LBP2. Yeah, I was about to mention that, but that text editor needs alot of fixes, mainly spell checker, a dictionary for capital lettered words (I mean come on!), and maybe a permanent way of remembering words. | 2010-08-01 22:41:00 Author: Matimoo Posts: 1027 |
Spell checker idea is good as long as you can choose language witch you want speak. Additionally to the dictionary should be added LBP special words to make working easier. | 2010-08-02 09:19:00 Author: waD_Delma Posts: 282 |
yea, thats Sony issue, but LBP have it's own text editing when you plug in keyboard | 2010-08-02 12:29:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
No, it just bypasses showing the actual text editor. | 2010-08-02 22:58:00 Author: Moony Posts: 368 |

Yeah......only problem.... there is no LBP text editor... it's the PS3 standard. So you're talking about a PS3 general spell checker, not one specifically for LBP2. Actually, when you enter something in the PS3 keyboard, it converts the information into a string variable and stores the text for recollection in your level, whenever said text is called up. Once a string is stored, the game itself can do whatever it wants with it--including a programmed spell checker. They could easily include a spell check tool inside of LittleBIGPlanet, provided they're willing to program it. Also, I think this is an excellent idea. As aforementioned, terrible spelling and grammar can completely ruin a level's atmosphere. | 2010-08-03 02:49:00 Author: xero Posts: 2419 |
Yeah, I hate when I play a great level, but then suddenly I hear a "Magic Mouth" sound, and POP! Text: "Who ar u? Wat do u want?" "Grab th swtich to litf the rok!" "LOLZZ I WUNT HEARTZZ!!11one1!" Spell-Check is a must-have for LBP2. However, I don't need one for LBPC. I have the magic of Mozilla Firefox, who has spell-check built into EVERYTHING. As Little Big Planet 2 is aimed at everyone , there will be alot of younger players -which of course is no problem Edster962's auto-correct service detects one or more errors in the above statement: "alot" "which of course is" -Correcting...- "a lot". "which, of course, is" Thank you, have a nice day. | 2010-08-03 03:32:00 Author: edster962 Posts: 170 |

I'm only 12 !! I don't know everything, jus' cause I'm a nerd doesn't mean anything... everyone is partial to make mistkaes that's a rule of life , no-ones ever been perfect. I try my best , and that's what my mummy says to do . JOKE!! I never listen to my mum... I just like to try my best! Aaaand we better get back on topic before rtm or another mod tells us we're going off topic... Could you imagine a spelling mistake free LBP2 ? | 2010-08-03 11:05:00 Author: G-Hustla Posts: 81 |
Now I know this is mean, wrong and absolutely hateable opinion, BUT ...let's be pessimisticly realistic and think... The Spell Checker probably wouldn't save 90% of the levels it's users made (with the exception of jump_button, good enough the levels speak for themselves ) Now you wish there was a nega-thanks button! | 2010-08-03 11:11:00 Author: Unknown User |
To be honest that's still 10% of level better !! That's about half of the spammers minions . =D | 2010-08-03 17:39:00 Author: G-Hustla Posts: 81 |
I think that their should be a text editor made for LBP, Civilization Revolution has one so it can be done. | 2010-08-03 22:08:00 Author: Scifiguy Posts: 95 |
The idea seems like a must have, to me. Nice idea, never gave this a thought myself. | 2010-08-06 01:18:00 Author: Risumm Posts: 77 |
No, it just bypasses showing the actual text editor. I don't think so, PS3 firmware text editor have it's own keyboard support, text editor is that LBP uses for keyboard is rendered by the game it self. You can't bypass common system elements, you can use them or not at all, same as "open file" window or or color picker in Windows, you use them or use your own. | 2010-08-06 01:52:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
