Hello everybody! First i would like to say how happy i am to have found this community and how excited i am to be becoming a part of it for the foreseeable future.

I've been a gamer for years and have actually had a 360 for a long time, recently i have doshed out and bought a PS3 and one of the first games i went for immediately was Little Big Planet. I had heard about it around when it first came out a while ago and was amazed at the creative potential the platform LBP is Media molecule had developed. I have always been a creative person and being someone inclined to enjoy the more technical aspects of life, the unity of these LBP brings is of great joy to me.

Having had the game for about a week now and having played enough to feel i have a definite 'taste' of the inner workings and community of the game, my creativity is literally screaming at me to learn the ropes and get... well creative!

After looking around for tutorials here and there i came across this Gem of a community, an inevitability in retrospect I am at the point now where i am ready to get serious about learning the world forging aspect of LBP substantially. I have played around on my moon quite a bit and developed a few rudimentary things, and this is where i am requesting aid.

I am looking for advice on the best place to begin as a beginner in regards to tutorials. For when creating on my moon i seldom make anything more than an odd looking 'block' of bits and pieces with bolts and hinges attached along with some form of rudimentary purpose. Non the less i have many interesting Ideas after playing a few fantastically creative levels, yet my current lack of the technical understanding of the underlying game mechanics is holding me back. Hence my ultimate seeking and finding of this site, where i hope to patiently develop my ability at applying my creative endeavors within little big planet and realize my aspirations as a fellow world forger for the LBP community.

So here is a heartfelt HELLO! from me and a humble request to a few pointers towards the best place for me to begin looking (amongst this community and other learning sources) for tutorials on level conceptualizing, grasping the basic logic behind using the game mechanics, must know hints and tips, so on and so forth... you get the idea.

Thank you for taking your time to read my humble greeting, I look forward to spending time with you all.

Peace out, Dreamer.

That's quite an intro there. Welcome to Central mate.

There's just stacks of tutorials and other helpful threads around to get your creative skill skyrocketing.
First of all we have The Logic Pack, here can read about it here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=18649-LBPCentral-Logic-Pack!#post330956) but I highly recommend playing the levels.
Then there's the Help (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?42-Help!) and Tutorial (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?75-Tutorials) sections. Have a good browse around this area, there's lots of great info there.
You can also have a look through the Object Showcase (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?60-Object-Showcase), Level Showcase (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?40-Level-Showcase) and even the later Creator Spotlights (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?100-Creator-Spotlight-Archive) have some HD videos where you can see the inner workings of some of this community's best creator's levels.

I've kind of over loaded you there but it's all good stuff and should keep you busy for a while.
Hope you have a great time here

Thanks for the replies people. I've already been checking out the Logic Tutorials (It's actually how i found this community) And since writing my original post i've found the help and tutorials section of this site and have just finished reading through a tutorial on "how to create a level in four days" (or something of that nature). Obviously I'm not presuming I am going to be able to do that. But its a good start in developing the basic concepts of overall level creation and structuring it into a practical workflow. Through reading that tutorial i have actually noticed that something i am lacking is specific inspiration for what i want to create. I do have quite allot of ideas to be fair. But it is very un-structured and very idealistic.

I am intending on making very unusual, organic 'living' enviroments full of odd looking creatures. Hopefully a very trippy type experience with a style akin to films like the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, consisting of puzzles with unusual solutions not immediately noticeable, requiring the player to think outside the box. Atmosphere is important to me so i will be putting allot into creating the right lighting, character development, music, aesthetics e.t.c.

It seems i (as usual) am i danger of biting off more than i can chew but i fear not hah. One step at a time and all that. I suppose right now its most important for me to get into a crater and throw ideas at the control pad to get me comfortable with the mechanics before i put anything substantial into an overall level.

The idea of watching HD videos of the inner workings of creators making levels is EXACTLY what i'm looking for right now. I have a few issues with understanding the concept of overall world 'shaping' in the sense of "where do i 'place' the start of the level in respect to where the path will be winding up, down across and around the workspace", stuff like that really, visualizing the level. But i guess it will come once a few other fundamentals have been established.

lol i need to slow down i recon, one thing at a time and all that.

Greetings there Dreamer,

Sketching out the level ideas on paper really helps the design of the level work out better. Whatever the theme of the level, I find looking at images and art similar to the theme really helps you get inspired.

I suggest you experiment at lot in Create and try to find out your strengths, whether it be visual or logics.
Since most of the awesome creators of LBP call Central home, you'd get some great pointers from them if you ask nicely.
Most importantly, have fun with the game.. before LBP 2 comes out

Welcome! Glad ya made it!

Just remember one fun step at a time, it takes quite awhile to get your skills up to where you can create to your hearts content. Even then there are bumps in the road! My best tip is the corner editor will be your best friend. It might not seem so at first, but someday it will.

As always best of luck and if you have any questions getting around the site, please ask!

Have fun!
