A variable system?

Archive: 2 posts

In lbp1 there was little more that I could ask for, But every time I Built a level. I kept on running into the same thought one way or another. "This would be so much easier with a variable system!". For those who don't know what a variable is, essentially It's a stored number that can be counted by and kept track of by the program. Maybe for it to be implemented in-game there could be a variable switch that could be connected to various, and multiple switches. For instance, when ever a magnetic key switch is activated and it's connected to a variable switch it will add to the variable (if the current variable is 0 and the keyswitch is activated the variable could turn to 2.) The variable switch could have user set checkpoints, so when the variable is specific number It will activate the The object it's connected to. A simple example would be If a door is locked when the variable is 0, and it opens when the variable gets higher, so if you find the key it will add 1 to the variable opening the door, and you could lock it again by setting the variable to 0 as soon as you step through the door. Another example would be, if for example you could have a Giant mecha run out of fuel over time and become un pilot-able by connecting the variable switch linked to the direct control seat, and then setting a certain variable like 100; and then reducing it by one every time a timer reaches 10, when it reaches 0 the variable switch will go into the off mode, turning off the robot.

Most of this might not make sense to younger players, but we have whole fanbase making complex logic gates, more complex than the final boss. And this would make creating a lot easier. Also i apologize if this is either TL;DR or babbling nonsense. Also most programming languages already have variable systems built in. I don't see how that hard it would be for MM to implement into the game.

I don't see why we need them. The Logic of Today (plus the simplified, lazified awesomeness Mm ships us in a few months) does enough to me.
Toggle Switches anyone?
