Aztec EmbersFastbro Explore the fiery depths of the ancient aztec temple. Can you escape the clutches of the deadly skulls? Hey there! And welcome to my new level! Although all of my previous levels mainly focus on story this one is different. It's a straight forward platformer. (Sorry, no quirky dialog!) I tried to incorporate a bunch of original ideas, so I hope you enjoy it! UPDATE: Taffey has kindly taken some awesome photos of my level! http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0061.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0063.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0064.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0065.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0067.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0068.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0069.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0070.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0071.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0072.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0073.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0074.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0075.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0076.png http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Aztec%20Embers/7-31-2010-0077.png | 2010-07-30 21:35:00 Author: Fastbro Posts: 1277 |

Okay, I did not expect this. A Fastbro level with no funny dialogue? A straight up platforming level? Now this is something different, and that is what separates guy's like you and myself. To do something completely opposite of what your known for, is brave, and it's risky. I give you major cool points for that (like you need cool points). Hahaha!!!! This level was a ton o' fun buddy!! From the opening, sliding down with the entrance checkpoint I knew this was going to be good. The rising staircase never gets old to me. That is a lbp staple, and I always enjoy seeing that if it's done right. I liked your hidden spots and it's always nice to be rewarded for going off the path, and the lurve did flow!! All of the mechanics were great, everything worked, and looked perfect. One of the first things I noticed about your style, was in a Sack's Tale, how everything was so beautiful in the opening segment. I remember wanting to make a level that looked that good. Your style is pure aesthetics. Everything just looks right about your levels, from your choice of materials, to your clean lines, and your corner editing. You asked me once about gameplay, well let me tell you, you have made a very fun level. All of the ideas you implemented seemed fresh too, it's hard to do something original in lbp, and there were alot of great original ideas you put into this. Your platforming was awesome and in some spots, quite challenging, there is a couple spots that require some decent platforming skills, but that is good. I like a challenge now and then. The skulls looked great, my favorite part was getting through the big one's mouth and trying not to get crushed by his teeth. Your stickering, as usual was excellent, nothing overpowering, and it complimented your materials very well. Another great job buddy!! Hearted of course!! <3 -VJ Don't worry about a f4f, you have got me plenty of times!! | 2010-07-31 00:51:00 Author: VelcroJonze Posts: 1305 |
Story - N/A: Characters 10/10: I'm going to count those skulls as characters, because they were indeed "alive" Visuals 10/10: Great choice! They looked very Aztec-y. Especially the "Jade" materials used for the skulls. Dialogue - N/A: Gameplay 10/10: A straight-forward platformer with hidden bubbles! Fun Factor: Did I have fun with this level? Yes indeed. This was a very fun platformer with tons of switch pulling and jumping Things to notice: The slliding lava blocks! Those were a great edition to lava slides. Ending Statement: Didn't expect a platformer from you, but you sure did a good job with it! You got yourself :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 | 2010-07-31 04:01:00 Author: TheNerd Posts: 840 |

Well always been a fan of straight forward platformers, I just never got round to doing one until now. I challenge you to do an poo-style rpg now VJ! This level was a ton o' fun buddy!! It's great hearing this from a superstar like you! One of the first things I noticed about your style, was in a Sack's Tale, how everything was so beautiful in the opening segment. I remember wanting to make a level that looked that good. Do I do that? Ha, I guess I just get lazier at decoratiing as I go through the level! Everything just looks right about your levels, from your choice of materials, to your clean lines, and your corner editing. I means a lot to me hearing that... Thanks! The skulls looked great, my favorite part was getting through the big one's mouth and trying not to get crushed by his teeth. Your stickering, as usual was excellent, nothing overpowering, and it complimented your materials very well. Those skulls (the big ones) were a pain. The pistons kept glitching up. So I'm glad it was worthwhile in the end! Another great job buddy!! Hearted of course!! Thanks again! This was a really good level with a great visual feel to it. The gameplay was really original, like with the sliding fire blocks. The only problem I had was that the checkpoints were a bit sparse, so I had to restart from a bit to far for what I like. Other than that I loved your level. | 2010-07-31 15:25:00 Author: HappyGreenCactus Posts: 247 |

Hey Fast B! Played this awhile ago, and it was geeeaaat! It'd starts off with a bang with the rolling check point, and never lets up on the action. I thought the theme was well used, and the skulls added alot of character to what could've just been another Cave type level. Well done! Gameplay wise, I didn't have any hangups whatsoever, and everything worked as it should. I'm glad you added the reset feature as I did fall off the pillar one time, and it would've been impossible to get back up. Not much more I can say, hearted it and you as a creator. | 2010-07-31 22:52:00 Author: kaiju_kid Posts: 329 |
Well it seems like loads of levels are being released recently, but I found time for this lovely level. The backgrounds are a bit spacey, and there could be more decoration and detial, but you have to love this for what it is - a true platformer. Nothing to distract from the platforming, and that's really awesome. There's some great original parts of this level that had me gagging for more. The only real problem was the placement (or rather lack of) of checkpoints. At one point (the bit with the fire sliding down, followed by swining, followed by the tilting rocks) I felt like I was never going to reach another checkpoint! I'm all up for a challenge, but this got annoying when I kept dying. Still, the ideas were well implemented and the platforming itself was a perfect combination of challenging, but not impossible. :star::star::star::star: and a <3 | 2010-07-31 22:56:00 Author: Coxy224 Posts: 2645 |

So I may go and add in a couple more checkpoints.... | 2010-07-31 23:01:00 Author: Fastbro Posts: 1277 |

Great stuff! This level is quite fun. It looks great, too. For some reason I just couldn't help but be amused byt the skulls, they are awesome! I especially like the big skull, those skulls must not have great dental care though, not one had a full set of teeth! *gasp*. Hey FB, its feedback time! This is quite a fun level here. It's nothing I haven't seen done before, but that's fine. (Hmm, I wonder why I'd have that opinion.) The platforming is fun and the level has a lot of replay value because of that. My favorite part was the fire section with the sliding pieces. My main problems lie in decoration - a lot of the level feels empty, and where there are stickers, they seem to break the theme. The signs give a good example of that as well, they're just out of place. Other than that I like the look of the level, corner editing is great and all. The constantly chattering skulls are a really nice touch. A few materials I might have changed out of personal taste - I'm not a big fan of bevel materials - but they looked great. Five stars and a heart! | 2010-08-01 19:03:00 Author: Voltergeist Posts: 1702 |

The platforming is fun and the level has a lot of replay value because of that. My favorite part was the fire section with the sliding pieces. Thanks B to the third power! That lava slide was originally supposed to be a flow of lava rocks. But when the screen began to flash white I stopped thinking it was a good idea... My main problems lie in decoration - a lot of the level feels empty, and where there are stickers, they seem to break the theme. The signs give a good example of that as well, they're just out of place. I'm sorry you didn't like the decoration Blue. I just couldn't find enough stickers thast fit the theme. And the signs? I just hoped they'd produce a few smiles. Other than that I like the look of the level, corner editing is great and all. The constantly chattering skulls are a really nice touch. Hi, Fastbro! Now we have one more great level from you! WOW. Very cool platforming gameplay and great environments, There are many nice obstacles and puzzles and also there is very good level mechanics. I love it! Also you did many original obstacles, with your own styles. So I gave you stars and heart! Great creation! I will wait for something new from you soon! | 2010-08-02 11:11:00 Author: Domik12 Posts: 838 |
I'm gonna try a rating system, because that's what the cool kids are doing. Story: N/A Straight up platformer as you said. Title and music choice: 10/10 Awesome title and music fit in well. Visuals: 9.5/10 Great corner editing and stickering, but I think you over-used the aztec stone material. I really liked the jade skulls. Gameplay: 10/10 Great, fun gameplay that fit with the theme of the level. There were many unique gameplay elements in this level, but some of it had been done before. Entertainment: 10/10 It was fun to play, simple as that. Replay value: 8/10 Good level are always replayable, and this is no exception. A few more score bubbles would be nice. Overall: 9.5/10 This was a great level. I am looking forward to your next level. I would like some feedback on my level "The Prisoner" | 2010-08-02 22:41:00 Author: Nuffles Posts: 132 |

Hey there, Fastbro! I haven't seen a level published by you in awhile. I'm pretty late with feedback. About 6 days passed since this post. Don't worry, I played your level the first day. I'm happen to be playing it now again so I can refresh my mind. Now that my intro is done, let us jump into the feedback. As I enter the level, I happen to slide down a slope. Nice touch. I liked your sticker work already. From the looks of it, this level is a bubble collectin platformer. The first fire pit obstacle was not hard much. I liked those circle things with a trio of grabbable swings. I've seen it done before, but I don't come across that often. This level is fiery and adds a well designed touch. I had a problem with your aztec skeleton face. The top of the skeleton's head was not smooth at all. I like the effect of him chomping. Though, seeing his top head pretty rigid ruined the effect. If no one has mentioned it, then I'll be the first. In your futurr levels, please make more smoother details in appropriate spots. (Such as the skull's top head.) The next obstacle is a backtrack to those circle things I've mentioned. New obstacle, same object. Very smart of you to do. Not only it saves thermo, but adds more length to the level. I liked how the 3 words "Don't look down" showed as you walked. I come across more skeletons. I thought maybe their jaws were slightly large. You can also maybe make their corner editing smooth too. I liked the obstacle. It was very well implemented. I think you should have added more sound effects to the skeletons munching. It'll leave a better feel to the level. Also, adding a few more checkpoints after certain obstacles would help to. I liked the part with the lava on the floor. You added the effect of more lava descendind. That was an effect I've never seen. (Besides Ted & Robi) Your sticker work is well done as I proceed through the level. I liked the obstacle with those unstable rocks you jump on. Then one of the coolest platforming puzzle comes by. I like the reset switch incase you fall down. Your switchs are pretty hard to pull though. You can loosen them up by increasing the length of the invisible winch. The ending is plain. Decent length to the level. No errors or glitches happened as I played. Very great level. Since I've got no more to add, I'll go on to your rating. Length: 5/5 (Decent length in platforming obstacles.) Material Usage: 5/5 (The colors shown an Aztec Theme.) Sticker Work: 5/5 (Very unique style to the level.) Corner Editing: 5/5 (Your Corner Editing is good, but go for great!) Terrain/Mechanics: 5/5 (Platforming was cool and Mechanics helped flow the obstacles.) Story: N/A (None provided here.) Total: 25/25 Perfect Score!! You acheived high standards for a level. With that said, you earn 5 stars :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. <3 Until we meet again, -Spark | 2010-08-06 17:29:00 Author: Spark151 Posts: 801 |

Hey Fb! No worries for the late response - I am even later with my F4F. You played Return of the Red Eye and left me great feedback approximately 27 years ago, and only now have I managed to find time in my lazy busy schedule to write up some feedback for you on this level. In short: Sorry for being lame and not doing this MUCH sooner! To start off with, you created and maintained a great temple look and feel throughout the whole level. I like me a good temple level, and this is an excellent one. The combination of the burning embers and the ancient stonework of the temple are a classic combination that really works together, both from a visual point of view but also from a gameplay perspective. From there you took your own "folk art" visual style (which I love!) and added the awesome blue chomping skulls to the mix. This really shouldn't work at all, but somehow it really does. It's both serious and goofy at the same time, fun to look at, and great to play through. Speaking of play, the pacing and challenge of the level is tuned about right and is very entertaining to make your way through. The sliding flame blocks is probably my single favorite section of the entire level, but of course how can I not comment on your awesome gap-toothed giant skull? It's truly excellent and is a great final challenge before ending the level. Oh, and I can't forget about your signs! When I first started playing I remember thinking that there was no way you'd be able to incorporate classic Fastbro signage in this level, but you managed to pull it off. Again, I have no idea why it works at all, but it does. It's a treat every time one of those obvious-but-helpful signs pops up and stamps the whole level with your unmistakable signature. I do have a few gripes but not all that many. My first issue is with the spacing of the checkpoints - there just aren't quite enough of them. Adding checkpoints in between existing ones would be too many, but as it is the level seems to stretch just a little too long between the last spawn point. Repeated deaths in some of the trickier spots send you back just slightly too far and detract from the overall experience a bit. This is not a deal breaker by far, rather just something I noticed. Some of the jumps are a little tricky for the camera angles you used but again, not bad at all generally speaking. Some of the shapes are a bit on the plain side, but then again that does fit your visual style and works pretty well here. I really had a blast with this level Fb and think it's probably your best yet. It's an entertaining ride from beginning to end, and that's all I'm ever really looking for when playing LBP. 5 stars and a heart, and thanks for a very fun level! | 2010-08-16 07:39:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |
