Kikaiwa: Vertigunner[Hard]Vanemiera
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=20659A good Vertigunner needs three things: mad paintinator skills, wit and no fear of great heights, of which the last one is probably the most important.
This time it's all about the paintinator. The catch about it is that you stay at the same spot and don't, at the same time. You stay and fight on one plattform at every fight, but the plattform is also moving through a tunnel vertically as well as all other things because of the moving background. Thought the effect was pretty neat and finally got me a motivation to make a paintgun level.

The finsihed product is a very challenging paintinator level that requires you to work out a strategie for each enemy wave. Just going into cover and popping out again to shoot some more won't work(maybe that's also because the cover isn't always useable).

Well then, good hunting and good luck.

Fantastic! I'll play it right now! Your levels are the best, MM should hire you on, if only to create a Kikaiwa DLC level pack.2010-07-31 00:36:00

I played it hmmm...somewhere else some weeks ago.
The level was already very awesome and challenging in that form, I'll play it again soon to see how it has evolved.

Wow..... My mind is officially blown. Absolutely astounding! I think this is required playing for a. Anyone who thinks the paintinator is getting old and b. People who think vr material is getting old. This level is so full of excitement, strategy, logic, and polish it made my head spin.

My only minor complaint is having to wait to get out of the alcove after I die... But you probably have a good reason for it. I always wanted to just get back in there.

5 stars and a heart. Simply incredible.

Oh, ApeCheese showed me some of your levels and they're a lot of fun. I really liked the 2p ones using the jetpack and paintinator but anyway, I'll try playing it sometime this week or next week.2010-07-31 12:49:00

Made this to make death cost you some more time and break the routine of shooting and dying. I hate the unlimited lives checkpoint because it reduces a level to plain retrying and mindless acting. Considering the lenght and the difficulty of the level however i had to use an unlimited lifes checkpoint. So this delay is just to make death count and the player struggle a bit more for his life than he would normaly do with unlimited lifes.

Gotcha - in that case, it was working perfectly.

I will definately go back later today and try to improve my score.

Yeah I agree with him with the wanting to get right back into action the wait kinda killed it then when you would jump out & still die it was nerve wracking....

Positives:
-Design off the level was great
-Gameplay was full of excitement & New challenges

I only didnt like the icarus part because I couldn't breathe coming out the checkpoint lol

Overall Amazing Job::star::star::star::star:<3

The Goods:

+ Excellent design. I liked how you used the vr material.
+ The gameplay is very fun and refreshing. I always like the paintinator so this is right up my alley.
+ Innovative challnges. Every fight was new. Like a series of boss fights .
+ Nice idea with the emitter on the plasma ball! ( I see all )

Improvements:

- The camera on the part where it looks like 2 mouths need to be changed. The bottom halfs of the mouths cant be seen so you have to guess.
- It kinda felt cheap when you fight Icarus. I dont think theres no way to survive him. When some of the bombs blow up it hits the floaty gas and itll shoot it right towards you.
- I hate the wait time too, lol. But I can deal with it.

Overall I still liked it alot. I gave it 5 stars and a <3. I still like cybernauts more but this is not that far behind though .

Wow, I played it and it was fantastic. very challenging yet very fun and so unique and I never got tired. The gameplay and detail were both awesome although I am a bit confused when it had the two electric walls that when shooting shoots out a wall of plasma at you. How do I shoot the thing on top? I keep aiming at it but it's paintinator switch never goes down.2010-07-31 21:50:00

C'mon guize. I'll add a magic mouth to the barrier that says " You shall not pass!" with the voice of Gandalf if you don't stop complaining. oP

Good point. I'll make a new camera zone for this one. Didn't really think it was necessary until now.

Hm... you are sure that you aimed INTO the hole? Otherwise i dunno what to do then if the Paintswitch doesn't work again. Had something similar at the Strain of Life boss-battle with some people complaining that there was no Paintswitch.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'll apply the changes when i get my PS back.

Actually, once you explained the reasoning it made sense to me. I DID try to stay alive more just so I wouldn't have to wait up there.

....... in fact..... How about the first time you die you have a magic mouth say "Punishment for dying is you must wait in the penalty box.". Then, triple the amount of time the player must wait in order to REALLY strike home the point. You could play the "Jeopardy" tune while the player is waiting.

Ok, now that the silliness is out of the way I did think of a more legitimate suggestion:

On the part where the 2 sides open and close, and the gas kills you periodically if you don't go move into the back layer - it was hard to see what was killing me the first couple times it happened. Maybe a more pronounced effect, like a light beam, on top of the gas.

Isn't there a light beam already? Well i'll add another one then. o/

But anyway that just got me an idea how to make the gas at the second boss stage more visible. A gasified light bulp might just work fine. Thanks again Cuz oD

I caught on to the light beam thing so.... whatever man, don't edit the level too much, I loves it as it is.2010-08-01 07:26:00

I think everyone caught on. Its just we didn't see it the first few times we got killed XD. I thought it was invisible gas at first.2010-08-01 15:43:00

But.... wouldn't it look a lot COOLER if it was an obvious beam of light zapping you? Come on, people - this is Vanemiera we're talking about - and one of the coolest hardcore series out there! I NEED a laser burning the cloth off my sackboys back! I want to SMELL BURNING SACKCLOTH! I don't want a thin little barely visible piece of gas killing me - especially after hearing the menacing charge-up of the laser cannon!2010-08-01 18:32:00

I copied it to see how in the world you made the background move.(Its very clever and it helped me understand how to get the effect to work) Sabre_ and I both seen republishes of your level and I would hate for people to take your hard work for thier own. Just a heads up about people using it the wrong way.2010-08-03 00:18:00

Well then they republish it. Even if they get famous with it i can still say to myself that a level i made is any good. It's not like i can buy something with "LBP-Fame". I love engineering new and original stuff and like to share it. Besides that i think that LBP would be a lot better place if people would stop sticking to the "This is my *******ing work, stop *******ing copying me, jerk!"-mentality. LBP is just a game and people should start taking it in an appropriatly (un)serious manner.

I'm not agreeing with you to be a sycophant or anything but, honestly yeah, when Stephanie Ravens & her cohort were on page 1 all the time publishing copied levels I really wished they'd've copied one of my levels, I don't care about getting my user name "ApeCheese" known, that's silly, I'm not ApeCheese, that's just a dumb screenname I use, but on the other hand I work long & hard on my levels, crappy or not, & I'd like for as many people to play them as possible, if someone else got credit for it I wouldn't really care (unless they somehow got a crown out of it) I'd just be really happy that my levels were being played.2010-08-03 03:17:00
