LBP1 after LBP2, will it survive?

Archive: 16 posts

So I've started wondering about the fate of LBP1 once LBP2 is released.

I don't think everyone who has LBP1 will buy LBP2, but I think it's safe to assume that all of the well-known creators will. It's also safe to assume that the LBP1 creating crowd will be drastically reduced in general, leading to a much smaller community of creators.

Is this a bad thing that will destroy the LBP1 community? I don't know, but the LBP PSP community is much smaller than that of the PS3 and that has been a great advantage. Many unknown creators have been able to make a name for themselves and still deliver high quality levels.

The way I see it, LBP1 might not only survive, but thrive after LBP2. There will be fewer creators and fewer players, which means levels should have more chance to get played and get fairer ratings. They should also get an easier shot at getting on the Cool Levels (which may start to be filled with more quality levels). Previously unknown creators who decide to continue to support the LBP1 community by making good levels would get more recognition and may even have a more rewarding experience for their efforts.

What do you guys think? Will LBP1 survive, thrive, or decay?

I think many people who enter at LBP2 and get really into it, will end up buying LBP1 due to the amount of materials/stickers/costumes etc (that will all have new interesting uses for LBP2).

Wether they stick with it and play it is another matter.

I don't think it will die off completely but it will be used far less I'm sure. I know I for one probably won't use it much once I have LBP2. Of course it remains to be seen how well everything works in it and how buggy it is. If it has as many bugs on release as LBP1 did then that may force a return to LBP1 until they're fixed, but it won't affect the community. That will thrive because it's still about people who love LBP whether that be 1 or 2.2010-07-30 15:24:00

I think it will die off, LBP 1 and LBP 2 will supposedly be sharing servers meaning whenever you publish a level in LBP 1 it will be payable to the LBP2 community, and it will get rated badly and unfairly because it is likely the level will not be up to LBP2 standards.

That said do I think it is a bad thing, no I don't think it is a bad thing that LBP will be almost washed away, we will all remember the brilliance of the game that paved the way for a platform of play, create, share.

It is sad but the community wont die, about 60% of the community are likely to buy LBP2 in the first weeks and many more in the following months, don't think of it as the death of LBP but the expansion into unexplored territories.

Deffineatly thrive. As said in the OP, New, unknown creators will set up shop, creating levels, which wont be ignored anymore encouraging them to make bigger, better levels, wich will give people who still have #1 coming back for more, i know that I will still be going back and finding spectacular levels.
Lets just say, Im bringing popcorn to LBP1.

I'd say that just about anybody who's serious about lbp will move on to lbp2. Most of the kiddies will want it too just 'cuz it's the newest thing. That means most of the best and worst will migrate to lbp2 (and probably more than half of the middle of the road people too), leaving the semi-casual and those who can't/don't want to buy a new $60 game. Losing the best and worst will probably result in a better average level quality (there's quite a few more worst than best unfortunately), and I'm sure there'll still be a few gems here and there, but it won't be anything like it is now.

I used to be in the Halo 2 modding community on the original xbox (oddly enough, I specialized in vehicles then too). As soon as the 360 came out (before H3 even came out), the community pretty much died. There were a few who stayed, but it was like an empty shell of what it used to be. I lingered for a while, but it wasn't that much fun any more without all the other modders releasing new stuff and nobody left to play anything that I published. I poked my head in a year or so later and there were still some people working on it, but it was nothing like what it had been. I figure it'll be similar here. Maybe some of us will pop back into lbp1 every now and then, but since we're bringing everything (except maybe some glitches) from lbp1 with us, I wouldn't think it would have a whole lot of appeal.

I don't see a future for LBP 1 once LBP 2 is released. It won't die out instantly, but will over time. People who pick up the LBP from the bargain bin will sign on only to see the community is just about all non-existant in the long run. Just about everyone I know who plays LBP will play LBP 2. Especially for a game like LBP, every DLC/feature(s) are add-ons/upgrades, since it is mainly based off user created content - in which the tools we are given are the most important. LBP 2 is basicly a complete upgrade of LBP 1, ruling out LBP 1 and literally taking its place.

I won't forget what LBP 1 started and all the good times on it but I will definitely be playing LBP 2 only after it is released.

It will lose a ton of players within the first month or two, and then it will gradually decline after that. I'd going to estimate it loses 1/2 to 2/3 of its players in the first few months, because a lot of the people who are still playing LBP are the dedicated players that would buy the sequel in a heartbeat. 2010-07-31 15:32:00

A) You do realize just because you bought LBP2, doesn't mean everyone will.
B) Well of course it will eventually die off, every single game does...

Its gonna last as long as any game of its caliber, as simple as that, if people like it and keep buying it (since its waaay cheaper than LBP2 will be now) then yeah, sure maybe the community will change some, but for some reason people think that means its gonna be an abandoned wasteland full of trolls...wth?
Now THAT's some videogame stuff... Its a GAME ok?
People will play it, people will get over it, people will move on when they feel like it, not when the sequel comes along, not after not before, or all at once, no one knows.

But its not like its gonna turn into some sort of end of the world wasteland....geez, where do you come up with those crazy stories anyways? (to all) seriously, one user makes a joke and next thing you know everyone takes too seriously, and since they have no intentions to debate it they actually believe that's what HAS to happen...

Well anyways, i forgot what else i was gonna say, so I'll just end my comment there.

I think one of the major questions is whether the spammers on the cool pages will give up and leave, stay on lbp1 or move to lbp22010-07-31 15:40:00

If I could I would have added a "It will still be alive, but with a decrease of players and levels published" or something like that. It will probably keep living, though many will move to LBP 2. That is, if LBP 2 is not actually as good as the first and people come back to LBP.

That is how I see it.

i think that it will just get more popular because if people see and like how awesome the second one is and havent already tried the first then they will want to play that one too.

i know personally i will continue playing both.

^ Love that song.

I think that only the well-known creators, dedicated people etc will move to LBP2 immeadilately because they know LBP2 is coming. Whereas (a majority of) the H4Hers, survival makers etc I don't think will knwo about LBP2 until they see it in a shop and get it. (E.g. I can't see little kids picking up LBP2 after playing LBP1)
Even if this does happen though, I think there will be less crappy levels due to the more complicated (by that I mean more and expanded features) create mode.
