LBPCentral Logo Competition
Archive: 172 posts
Well seen as we have an idea to put a LBPCentral logo to our levels, but we seem to lack that, i thought it would be a good idea to make a competition out of seeing who can make the best logo. After a certain amount of time (undetermined as of yet) i'll add a poll to this (it's possible right?) and we'll get voting! anywho.... start paint/photoshopping/whatever people! EDIT: Try to keep all chat about where to put it and how and such in this thread: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=310 Also!... Contrary to what i was told, it seems we actually have one if you look on http://www.lbpcentral.com/ at the top right! Though shall we do this anyway and make this logo for in game to stick at the end of our levels. | 2008-07-29 21:21:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Haha, well I guess I'll put it here for good measure: http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/6343/lbpcdp8.gif As always, if you are unhappy with the placement of "central", I take suggestions and criticism. I still have the .psd so I can make changes accordingly. | 2008-07-29 21:50:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
The logo should include the website. As obvious as it may seem, a lot of people won't think to abbreviate to lbpcentral instead of typing out littlebigplanetcentral.com EDIT: Nice job Cartman. You probably should add the website url though. | 2008-07-29 21:51:00 Author: Harrisment Posts: 136 |

I disagree with the ".com" aspect. An interested player will do a quick google search. That way we look more professional as well; respectable websites never have their url in their logo. Digg, Kotaku, Media Molecule, ect. None of them have their url in their logo. It looks stupid, truthfully. | 2008-07-30 00:31:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

Guys, a logo can't be a picture and some text, it's got to look good on any surface. We need something easily recognizable, something colorful but not annoying, and something that looks good. If we want to be a popular website by any means, we've got to have a logo that embodies our goals, not something thrown-together. | 2008-07-30 00:40:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

yah sorry i don't understand most of the photoshop but i figured i would give it a try and see how it ended up and thanks for the comment gio lol don't worry, i quite like seeing everyones input, so far pretty cool. to create something really good though takes alot of practice with the tools anyway, not too many people are that efficient with photoshop. my speciality is paint I realize that, and I'm not trying to discourage people, but throwing together a picture, some text and maybe a filter or two won't do it. All I'm saying is, if you are going to make one, make sure you work hard on it. Oh i know, i only did it to get it started really, as i just took the logo from the front page. I won't be doing any other purely cause i lack the skills on that front. But by the time i start the poll i'm hoping to see some proffesional looking stuff. i think maltay could do something quite good too, and the logo you did is great. | 2008-07-30 00:47:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

yah i want to make one that i'm satisfied with so far nothing and wow i didn't think photoshop had this much stuff i'm gonna make a good one believe in me cartman haha okay kmills, your best bet is to give it a soft kinda look. try going for not just a plain square - something quirky would work well. and take your time - theres ages yet and no doubt the competition may get up to a high standard. Oh - and you'll be suprised how deep photoshop is. it would take you a LONG time to learn to use it at its best. i never got the jist of it. | 2008-07-30 00:52:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

Gave it a crack: http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l403/bbroman1/lbpcentral.png?t=1217383861 Hmmm...don't know why it's not coming up. I like it, but it is a bit too long. Our best bet is a logo that is near an even ratio(close to 1:1 for length to height). If you can find a way to move it around then it might look better. | 2008-07-30 03:20:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

To all you wonderful people with artisitic skills... can I make a suggestion... Give the Logo a Patch look that the game has for its levels...with a material look as well... Just a thought...seems cool to have our own patch... I'll try and incorporate a patch into mine. I'm not exactly sure how. But I did use a filter to make it look like a type of material in LBP. EDIT: http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb111/vaati33/patchesandfont.jpg My sad attempt to add patches + new font thanks to lbp! | 2008-07-30 04:42:00 Author: Vaati33 Posts: 65 |
Your Logo is coming together! Also...If it helps...we dont need to spell out "LittleBigPlanet" If they don't know what LBP stands for then they should burn their copy of the game... If you use LBPCentral...then you have alot more canvas to spiffy up your logo design... Please correct me if I'm wrong Gods of said site... Avoid known shapes like circles and squares, form the shape around the design...makes it look like a real sticker... I'm going to go put myself in timeout now... | 2008-07-30 05:23:00 Author: Noonian Posts: 523 |

I though i'd give it a try, here are 5 possible versions, pick your favorite. nice, but not sure about the font choices EDIT: Hey, OP could you get us to pm the img codes to you so you can add the designs to the first post in spoiler tags so they're easier to see (and ultimately to vote on), it's easier to choose a favorite if they're side by side. | 2008-07-30 21:46:00 Author: redstar1993 Posts: 190 |

yeah, yours was good but really it is still just a screenshot with text and a filter. | 2008-07-31 09:47:00 Author: redstar1993 Posts: 190 |
I like a few of the other entries a lot, but I feel like it'd be better if the picture wouldn't cut off suddenly. It's not going to look good when put in a level. Therefore LittleBigFan's logo is the best, tho V3-V5 all have the same cut off problem. Then again I guess you could put frames around it, but still, I prefer something with better defined edges, if you catch my drift. Consider making a sign post in the game, where you'd put the LBPC sticker hanging, kind of like a western shop sign. Or really even numerous other places, a logo with square frames around it just doesn't work as well. | 2008-07-31 10:00:00 Author: Linque Posts: 607 |
Yeah, i get What You mean about cutoff, it wouldn't look as good | 2008-07-31 10:32:00 Author: redstar1993 Posts: 190 |
http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/6343/lbpcdp8.gif As always, if you are unhappy with the placement of "central", I take suggestions and criticism. I still have the .psd so I can make changes accordingly. I like this one the best, although I would place central lower so it doesn't interfere as much. Only touch the bottomside of "planet", on top it only touches the top of the B, so on the bottom it should be on the height of only touching the bottom of the p. | 2008-07-31 10:41:00 Author: KBY Posts: 60 |

Only touch the bottomside of "planet", on top it only touches the top of the B, so on the bottom it should be on the height of only touching the bottom of the p. Well, that'd put it on the left. I definitely like it better on the right. | 2008-07-31 11:50:00 Author: bbroman Posts: 1374 |
I whipped up something up for you guys as well. Might tune it a bit later on. Idea is that you could stamp it on a level as a sticker. http://linque.pp.fi/LBP/lbpcentlogo2.jpg I dont know what everybody else is thinking but this is HEAD AND SHOULDERS above everything else so far. This one fits the idea of it being a stamp, its very original and still captures the essence of what LBP is about. Maybe with a little tweaking like making the text less transparent it could be awesome! i think we should say something like "This level was brought to you by LBP Central" in the logo so that people can understand more. That or puttin a .com at the end of it. | 2008-07-31 11:54:00 Author: muttjones Posts: 843 |

Well, that'd put it on the left. I definitely like it better on the right. Nah I mean on the right, I mean the alignment should be lower, more in lines as IF IT WERE on the left it would only touch the leg of the P like it touches the B on top. | 2008-07-31 12:20:00 Author: KBY Posts: 60 |

Figured I'd give it another go: *img* *img* Both are transparent. EDIT: I moved the "presentation" up on the second one, and made it not so crooked. Wow, that's great, really. I prefer the first one. Is there any way you can bring the text closer together like the actual logo, and make the text less grainy? Also, try it in all lower case. | 2008-07-31 17:25:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
Wow, that's great, really. I prefer the first one. Is there any way you can bring the text closer together like the actual logo, and make the text less grainy? Also, try it in all lower case. For the second one, I was showing what it would look like if we used it as a sticker for a level that the board collaborated on. Or, we still could use it the first one for that, I guess. I'll work on your suggestions. EDIT:http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3184/2720704097_52595394c5_o.png Something about the text still seems...iffy. I'll figure it out later. | 2008-08-01 01:12:00 Author: bbroman Posts: 1374 |
Here's a new one, my favorite I've done so far: http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/3339/littlebigplanetcentralmu2.png I even retouched the logo I originally used because it was too grainy. I essentially repainted everything. Here's the original, for comparison: http://megaline.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/littlebigplanet_logo.jpg What do you guys think? | 2008-08-01 02:39:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

Alright, I made one more edit: I moved everything up a bit so it looks more centered: http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/1528/littlebigplanetcentralvf9.png And, for comparison, my old one: http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/3339/littlebigplanetcentralmu2.png | 2008-08-01 03:28:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

Alright, final minor change: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3041/2721525839_9208bc55eb_o.png There's less of an angle on the rotation of LBP and central. The outline was decreased slightly. For some reason, it seems slightly fuzzy, but it's not. Or at least, not on my computer. Maybe it was compressed when I uploaded it. Regardless, I still have the xcf. | 2008-08-01 11:48:00 Author: bbroman Posts: 1374 |
Alright, I made one more edit: I moved everything up a bit so it looks more centered: http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/1528/littlebigplanetcentralvf9.png I still think your likely to face copyright issues with that.. | 2008-08-01 11:53:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |
I'm not sure about the copyright issues, but since it's so similar to the LBP logo, it doesn't really stand out as a logo for LBP Central at all, in my opinion. | 2008-08-01 12:01:00 Author: Linque Posts: 607 |

I still think your likely to face copyright issues with that.. I think as long as we aren't using it for retail purposes(aka selling our levels or using advertisement on the website) we should be fine. | 2008-08-01 18:26:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

I think as long as we aren't using it for retail purposes(aka selling our levels or using advertisement on the website) we should be fine. Yeah, I think pretty much every video game fan site seems to break copyright laws by using game material right in with their templates. I think it should be ok to use something like that. I'll make this a sticky as you guys are saying. Maybe as time goes on, we'll have a vote and go with that. | 2008-08-01 18:49:00 Author: lbp Posts: 423 |

Ill re-install photoshop and have a go soon I don't really know what to do for something original. Usually logos embody the feel of the actual site, such as the color scheme, text, ect. Since we really don't have an overall theme as of yet, I don't really have anything to base the logo off of. If anyone else comes up with something good-looking and original, they'll have my vote. | 2008-08-01 20:07:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

Do you think mine is original enough or does it need a redraft? (pg4) I like version 4, with version one's text, if you could extend the sketchy thing so you can see it fully, then stroke the whole image a few pixels white so it looks like a real sticker, and keep the background transparent (dont like square or cut-offs) other than that, they are all really good Eveybody's is good, its hard to choose a favourate. One last thing though.. that render you used is massively overused I see it too much.. kinda affects the originality factor | 2008-08-01 21:04:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |
i think it's definatly original enough, V2 being the best. Though if the font somehow looked more indented into the wood and not stuck on then that would look even better. Kind of 3D if you will I like version 4, with version one's text, if you could extend the sketchy thing so you can see it fully, then stroke the whole image a few pixels white so it looks like a real sticker, and keep the background transparent (dont like square or cut-offs) other than that, they are all really good Eveybody's is good, its hard to choose a favourate. One last thing though.. that render you used is massively overused I see it too much.. kinda affects the originality factor I think V2 is better because it looks like, and works more as a sticker... and when the others have the lines around it just ending it looks less sticker like. could look odd on a level. | 2008-08-01 21:04:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

What render? The sackboy sitting and smiling. He's saying it's been used too much. I like the idea of wood, though. Maybe our logo should be made in-game, so it has a sort of LittleBigPlanet feel to it. How about we make an in-game item, like a hanging sign? We could use that as our trademark, so to speak, and just place it at the end of our levels. We could share the item with whoever we needed to, and then they could put it at the end of levels they make. | 2008-08-01 22:41:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

Well, if this was going to be used for collaborations only, then it would be easy to implement. We'd just place the sign at the beginning of the level to alleviate that worry. We could make it relatively small so it wouldn't take up much room. | 2008-08-02 00:41:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

I think I like this idea much better than a sticker. Seems to fit the world of LBP much more. Haha, yeah. I agree. I don't think we should make a thread about it though, guys. We'll wait until it releases and do it then. That way we can work with the tools and decide for ourselves how we want to make it, and if it's going to be a competition, who's is the best. Not to say you shouldn't start thinking about how you'd like it to be, however; that's perfectly alright. Speaking of which, if you guys agree, it doesn't have to be a sign. It could be anything: a rock, a slab of wood, ect. | 2008-08-02 02:05:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

Uhm! If you did a hanging sign, we could still put a sticker on it! I still like the sticker idea better, as it gives people more customization (i.e. they can choose the stick it on the scoreboard or make a swinging sign and put it on there) BTW... My PC is fixed!! It didn't take long at all! still have alot to do though before I get photoshop, lost ALL of my old files (200gigs+) So a few more days until I start. | 2008-08-02 15:06:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |

Yeah i prefer just the sticker idea... as i don't know if i'd wanna hang a sign or something in a level with a certain theme which would clash with the object. And good to hear! I have an idea we could do for the logo (making it in-game) We could put the logo letters on a giant cog that would spin slowly, so if the level was approved by the site/forum, it could say "LittleBigPlanet Central Approved" So, if we wanted to approve someone's level, we just put that object at the end of their level. Just an idea I had. | 2008-08-04 17:51:00 Author: Alaska_Gamer Posts: 209 |

I'm not sure how I feel about "approving" levels. There's a discussion over in general chat, I think. Yeah, theres stickers for winners of the monthly contests, and stickers for every member of the forums to put in their level if they choose too. That way, good people can feel rewarded, and the rest don't feel sucky if they're level isnt approved to have a sticker. | 2008-08-04 18:43:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |
i like alaska_gamer's spinning cog idea but not with the approved just as an object that you know means someone on the forum has made it. Also in the tags you should always put lbpcentral so that the search will always come up with every lbpcentral made level. | 2008-08-05 09:18:00 Author: muttjones Posts: 843 |

Why don't we use the text in the top-right corner as our logo? It's original, looks good, and won't lose much quality when photographed(it's text) to be put in the game. I mean, I know it doesn't have the URL in it, but people will probably google search it if we don't provide a URL. | 2008-08-09 05:49:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

It kinda makes everybodys efforts a little redundant, but we could if thats what everyone wants. Especialy if the "Eye-uploads only" is true... Oh, I'm not trying to undercut everyone's efforts, but I think we need a logo that is consistent. We could do variations on it, of course(for contest winners, ect) and we could still hold a competition for those variations. That way, people have something to go on in terms of creativity. | 2008-08-09 18:40:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

But i think so far the ideas are better than using the logo in the top right... as it doesn't really look like a sticker. Yours and Maltays designs look great as stickers see. Hm; maybe a level could be based off the logo where the sackboy starts at the big tree & has to go down the roots somehow? Just a thought! | 2008-08-12 21:59:00 Author: Unknown User |
Should we avoid the LBP game logo? I think its copywritten or whatnot. | 2008-08-13 03:55:00 Author: docpac Posts: 601 |
I'm good for using the forum logo at the top right. It's consistent. That's what I'm thinking should be the official logo. Also, maybe we could sell the other logos via the vbExperience store if lbp decides to implement it(check the "Rankings" thread in "Forum Updates"). It wouldn't cost real money, obviously, but that way people could choose the logo they prefer and everyone's efforts would still be valid. | 2008-08-13 04:01:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a135/dubyae/lbpcentral.jpg I can change the last L if needed. I like it though. | 2008-08-13 06:38:00 Author: docpac Posts: 601 |
*img* I can change the last L if needed. I like it though. Very clean and nice. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't seem to flow together. The text should compliment the images and itself, you know? | 2008-08-13 06:43:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

I'm afraid I used up some of my more clever ideas for the day for the LBPchallenge. I didn't want to recycle. i can change the textures to just about anything. Suggest and tho shall receive. | 2008-08-13 06:56:00 Author: docpac Posts: 601 |
Okay, this thread has started to slow down now. Shall i start organising the pics and poll yet? | 2008-08-15 22:20:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

That way we can resize it without quality loss. | 2008-08-15 22:47:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
Actually, give me 15 minutes to whip up a better version, alright? That way we can resize it without quality loss. no problem. we've got a problem anyway as bbromans latest attempt now gives us an errored image. i'll PM him to see if he can reupload it - then when you've got yours sorted as well that will mean we have 10 entries. EDIT: i've got a problem with putting in a poll. i thought this was possible but the option is not there. is it possible for you to do this cartman? if so i'll shoot you a PM with how i've changed the first post (code and everything is there too) when i want you to do it. if you can't though... i'll just have to create a new thread with a poll. or would it be tidier to do that anyway? your shout. | 2008-08-15 23:00:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

I would rather make a new thread altogether. Just PM me the entries and I'll whip up a thread. By the way, I can't redo our logo. Let's just keep it to the custom ones, eh? | 2008-08-15 23:23:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
