Help! Router can't see internet anymore after reset.

Archive: 7 posts

Hey everyone,

I bought a new computer yesterday and figured I'd reset the router since I forgot the password and it should be easy enough to just set it up with a new one, I did it a thousand times in other places right? Wrong.

Now the router won't see internet regardless of if I'm connected wirelessly or through the ethernet cable. I DO connect to the router itself and can access the 192.168.1.1 default page; the router is a Wireless N Linksys router. It worked fine before the reset and now it doesn't see internet on any of the computers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get your ip adress like this
http://www.wikihow.com/Find-out-Your-IP-Address

Now open the browser and paste your ip adress at the top, put in the router's name and password.
You might want to play around in there =/

If nothing else, you might have to grab and update the firmware on the router. I had something similar when I had a linksys. It just would not cooperate! They are kinda flaky at times. I finally retired it and got a D-Link.2010-07-30 22:25:00

I used to have a D-link too, but i wouldn't recommend them, it constantly needs to be reconnected in bad whether, but! they are extremely reliable they hardly ever break down. I had mine for seven years until i switched providers (BT).

Really? I've never have to mess with mine and we have horribly stormy weather in Indiana. Huge lighting and all that stuff!

Thanks for the replies guys

I think I might have figured out a possible cause, I can't test the theory yet but I think the gateway address of the router is interfering with the address of the DSL modem. I also might not have reset the router properly so I'm going to do a full hard reset and then change the gateway address of the router. That should do it. Will try tonight.
