Beautiful guitar solos?

Archive: 53 posts

Just wondering what some of your favorite beautiful guitar solos are When I say that I mean, things that are really phrased well. Not blindingly fast or anything, and can be in any style. Blues, Country, Jazz, metal, rock, whatever.

Way too many for me to list... I guess the first two out of the mental tumbler are the Sweet Child of Mine solo and the one from Hotel California.

If we're gonna' go with the classics then the S&M version of Metallica's Nothing else matters is a good staple

Oh wow.. Those are two great ones!! Another few favs of mine off top of my head is Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb and Breath. Those just give me chills when I hear them. Another, but not a huge fan of the band, is the solo from Wings Baby I'm Amazed.

my favourite(s): Metallica - one / The Beatles - While my guitar gently weeps

for the longest solo(s) I have ever heard it has to be green grass and high tides forever by the outlaws (it's on Rock Band)

In "Beat It" by Fall Out Boy and John Mayer, there is a good guitar solo. Definitely not beautiful, but it's pretty cool! 2010-07-29 21:37:00

as he sung it, George Harrison

Actually, the original version with the Beatles was performed by Eric Clapton.

From Wikipedia
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/While_My_Guitar_Gently_Weeps)
"The band recorded the song several times, including a version with a backward guitar solo[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/While_My_Guitar_Gently_Weeps#cite_note-FOOTNOTELewisohn1988153-0) (as Harrison had done for "I'm Only Sleeping (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_Only_Sleeping)" on Revolver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolver_%28album%29)[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/While_My_Guitar_Gently_Weeps#cite_note-FOOTNOTELewisohn198878-5)), but Harrison was not satisfied.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/While_My_Guitar_Gently_Weeps#cite_note-FOOTNOTELewisohn1988153-0) On 6 September 1968, during a ride from Surrey into London, Harrison asked Eric Clapton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Clapton) to add a lead guitar solo to the song. Clapton was reluctant—he said, "Nobody ever plays on the Beatles' records"—but Harrison convinced him and Clapton's solo was recorded that evening.[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/While_My_Guitar_Gently_Weeps#cite_note-FOOTNOTELewisohn1988154-6) Harrison later said that in addition to his solo, Clapton's presence had another effect on the band: "It made them all try a bit harder; they were all on their best behaviour."[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/While_My_Guitar_Gently_Weeps#cite_note-FOOTNOTELewisohn1988154-6)"

If it helps, this really doesn't have to do with metal. Can include any style of music

Good stuff so far. I played a lot of my guitar today. It was a good feeling

If you just want the solo, skip to 2.10 but i'd recommend listening to the whole thing anyways.

David Gilmour is a phrasing mastah!

If this is the case, I'm going to chuck in I Won't See You Tonight Pt 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSZ6CX79p7c), just for the lulz. Solo at 2:30. If anyone manages to play that, you get a cookie. It's not a beautiful solo, just as many notes rammed together in the shortest amount of time possible.

If you're looking for beautiful, then this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Nj1D2y-PY8) is great... It's from electric tears. :3

Probably was, although it's still called a guitar solo by Wikipedia.

Plus you can play it on guitar.

Pretty much anything Robbie Robertson plays.

And there's one at the end of a little known Counting Crows song called "Holiday in Spain" that really moves me. Nice classic rock vibe. It's the last song on Hard Candy.

lol, if you've ever heard of My Chemical Romance, they use pretty guitar solos in lots of thier songs. They sorta sound like a new version of Queen. Two MCR songs off the top of my head with good guitar solos is "Welcome to the Black Parade" and "I'm Not Okay."
I know it's not like old songs that have tons of guitar, but for a recent band they're really good!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDWgsQhbaqU
I know it's a little "over dramatic," but I like it, lol
"I'm Not Okay" is a better guitar song, but I thought the video would be too raunchy to post on here, and I didn't want to get banned or anything.

Not strictly a solo, per say, but this is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I know:

I was lucky enough to have seen him play live a few months ago. It was in a tiny, intimate venue. I spoke to the guy and shook his hand, bought a pick off him too! One of the only times I've ever been in awe was seeing him play, it's mesmerizing.
