Dreamworks VS Pixar

Which animation studio do you guys reckon pumps out the better work? It's just because I watched this video on college humour (http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1939169) and it got me thinking. Anyway, heres some notable films by each studio over the years; Pixar : Toy story 1 /2 / 3 A bugs life Monsters Inc Finding Nemo The Incredibles Cars Ratatouille WALL-E Up Dreamworks : Antz The road to el dorado Shrek 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 Sinbad : Legend of the seven seas Shark Tale Madagascar 1 / 2 Over the Hedge Kung Fu Panda Bee Movie Monsters VS Aliens How to train your dragon | 2010-07-28 21:44:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
Even though i like all the pixars movies the shrek series are pretty funny! | 2010-07-28 21:48:00 Author: shadow3596 Posts: 2442 |
Dreamworks has Shrek, Pixar has all of it's films. Their shorts are great too. (not clothing) I voted Pixar. | 2010-07-28 21:51:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |
On one hand, there's Disney owned Pixar which make very memorable and magical films (Toy Story is just beautiful). They also make very good sequels which not many film companies can do well. On the other hand, there's Dreamworks which makes very good blockbuster animated films which are just a rollercoaster to watch but seem to lack the quality of work when it comes to sequels (except Shrek 2. I found that better than the first ). I'd say it was half and half. That's just my opinion. No offense if you liked Shrek 3! Now if they made a film together, I'd explode with happiness. | 2010-07-28 22:00:00 Author: trip090 Posts: 1562 |
I liked shrek 1, and I found shrek 2 quite funny. Shrek 3 had barely any funny moments, the ones that were genuinely funny were on all the adverts thus ruining the whole shebang. I'm not going to see this new one. I do want to go see Toy story 3 though. | 2010-07-28 22:01:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
I do want to go see Toy story 3 though. You will not be disappointed. It is a brilliant film. I had to stop myself from crying. | 2010-07-28 22:03:00 Author: trip090 Posts: 1562 |
Loved Shrek and Kung Fu Panda but Pixar is just so dang consistent with the ever evolving visuals and tightly woven stories. I think in terms of visuals and story lines I gotta go with Pixar. | 2010-07-28 22:03:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Pixar knows how to continue a series, but Dreamworks hasn't figured that out yet. To me, it feels like Dreamworks is all about money, while Pixar seems more about the quality and originality of their films. I read an article about Pixar a few weeks ago. They are incredibly dedicated to every movie they create. My vote goes to Pixar. To tell you the truth, I just flat-out enjoy Pixar movies much, much more than Dreamworks... | 2010-07-28 22:04:00 Author: piggabling Posts: 2979 |
I really love toy story and especially Wall.E, so Pixar all the way for me. | 2010-07-28 22:12:00 Author: AgentBanana Posts: 511 |

I voted Dreamworks because I like to be different. Nah, I just love Shrek, Madagascar, Over The Hedge and Bee Movie. | 2010-07-28 22:15:00 Author: Doopz Posts: 5592 |
I voted for both of them. Honestly, I love Pixar's movies for their morals and storylines, but I also love Dreamworks's movies for their humor and comical situations. | 2010-07-28 22:17:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |
Pixar is better but i like dreamworks too! | 2010-07-28 22:27:00 Author: Snrm Posts: 6419 |
I would have posted that picture but I didn't want to skew the votes too much | 2010-07-28 23:01:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
Name one bad Pixar film. I can't. I can name about 5 bad Dreakworks films though. /thread | 2010-07-28 23:15:00 Author: Jaslow Posts: 775 |
Just rewatching the Incredibles, it's on iPlayer at the mo. I've seen it before but ages ago, and I like seeing all of the of the materials used in the film that you get in game. | 2010-07-28 23:42:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
My favourites: incredibles, monsters, up, kung fu panda. (in no order) Pixar is consistant with their quality, dreamworks is not. I don't really like Cars or Ratatouille though. Dreamworks has shown they can make great films (Kung Fu Panda, How to train your dragon) yet they release terrible films like Monsters VS Aliens for a quick buck. The difference between them, is that dreamworks doesn't try most of the time. | 2010-07-29 00:04:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |

Hehe, I watched it on iPlayer too. Awesome film! For me, Pixar have never put a foot wrong. The only one I'm not too keen on is Cars. There are a few Dreamworks animations I like, but one of the things that puts me off is it seems that they have to have an "all star cast". So I vote Pixar! | 2010-07-29 00:17:00 Author: Rhys125 Posts: 841 |
Anyone who enjoyed the first two shrek films but was disappointed by the 3rd shoud defo go and see the new one, it's a lot better than 3 and imo up there with the first two. Overall, I couldn't call it. Both have produced some of my favourite films and some that i'd never watch again, so as far as im im concerned, it's pretty even | 2010-07-29 00:20:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
I think in terms of visuals and story lines I gotta go with Pixar. I agree! | 2010-07-29 00:21:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
PIXAR! I love every single movie by pixar... some more and some less. Some of them seem childish but when you watch them you see a deep meaning in the story, at least if you aren't a kid. Who would think that I would like a film a about a rat that can cook, a racecar that gets lost or a robot that meets the love of his life. I still have to watch UP and toy story 3 (It's still not out here in Finland ) As for dreamworks, some of them are great (Ice age, ice age 3 and shrek 1 and 2) but some not so much (ice age 2, shrek 3) Also, I don't feel like I have to watch some of the movies that I have missed that are by dreamworks. EDIT: OMG how could I forget about the movie about a fish that gets captured but his father goes after him, I love that one EDIT2: Looks like I messed up with ice age... It's not from dreamworks | 2010-07-29 00:31:00 Author: napero7 Posts: 1653 |
Dreamworks have some ok films, but Pixars movies are just....more. The way I see it, Dreamworks aims to make kids films. Pixar aim to make, just great films. It also seems as if Pixar have more of a passion for it than Dreamworks do. Plus I just love some of the Pixar shorts, my favourite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etmPR9rl6Ig&feature=related I love that crazy old man! | 2010-07-29 00:34:00 Author: Mr_T-Shirt Posts: 1477 |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6c7GyiR2Go For the birds Is also a really good short. | 2010-07-29 00:42:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
As for dreamworks, some of them are great (Ice age, ice age 3 and shrek 1 and 2) but some not so much (ice age 2, shrek 3) Ice Age isn't dreamworks. | 2010-07-29 00:53:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Ice Age is a 2002 American computer-animated film created by Blue Sky Studios and released by 20th Century Fox. Or so says wiki | 2010-07-29 00:56:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
Ice Age isn't dreamworks. Umm... ok... I thought it was and didn't even look if it was... I'll change my post, thank you | 2010-07-29 00:58:00 Author: napero7 Posts: 1653 |
For the birds Is also a really good short. I remember they played 'For the Birds' before 'Monsters Inc.' at my cinema. The audience were in stitches! (P.S. Not easy to find Pixar shorts on Youtube that don't have either different audio or are 'Embedding Disabled' is is? ) | 2010-07-29 00:59:00 Author: Mr_T-Shirt Posts: 1477 |
You really can't beat Pixar on its success rate, critically and at the box office, as an animation OR non-animation studio. As much as I loved Shrek... Pixar just is so consistently genius. | 2010-07-29 03:51:00 Author: monstahr Posts: 1361 |
Quality wise they're almost equal. But Pixar gets the for working for Disney. Any art, any animation, any idea, any machine, any script, any poem, any doodle you draw, anything at all that you think up, becomes the property of Disney as long as you have a contract with them, and they reserve the right to not give credit to you. | 2010-07-29 04:13:00 Author: Bremnen Posts: 1800 |
Pixar all the way. | 2010-07-29 04:40:00 Author: Testudini Posts: 3262 |

I'm not so sure that being a subsidiary of Disney means that all of the creative people get no credit at all. | 2010-07-29 05:34:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |
stuff you make on your OWN TIME,they reserve the right to not credit you if they don't want too I was told Tim burton drew up Jack skelington at home while he was working for Disney, then after he left he decided that it would be interesting to make a movie out of his sketch and Disney wanted the rights to it since it had been made while he was under contract with them i don't know if thats true im just repeating what i was told :/ | 2010-07-29 05:46:00 Author: Bremnen Posts: 1800 |
Pixar : Toy story 2 / 3 WALL-E Up Dreamworks : The road to el dorado Shrek 4 Sinbad : Legend of the seven seas Kung Fu Panda Monsters VS Aliens How to train your dragon These are the ones I haven't seen (lol, mostly the new ones) and it makes me want to see some of them There are amazing movies in both those groups for me, and this thread just brought back a load of memories. I have to vote ... half and half. But if I saw the movies I just listed, I think I'd go with Pixar, because I've heard plenty of amazing things about WALL-E, Toy Story 2/3, and Up. | 2010-07-29 06:20:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Plus I just love some of the Pixar shorts, my favourite: I love that crazy old man! The Shorts just get better and better! Geri from Geri's game has a cameo in Toy Story 2! I love the newest one, Partly Cloudy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV7HO9FazkI&feature=related | 2010-07-29 10:48:00 Author: Rhys125 Posts: 841 |

Out of those, you have to see Toy Story 2 and Up first, they should be your highest priority I'm sure people will agree with me on this | 2010-07-29 13:36:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
I think I like pixar much better than I do dreamworks. I mean...pixars movies feel like they have some sort of meaning to them, dreamworks kinda just makes their movies for people to laugh at and stuff. I actually like kung fu panda and shark tale alot though. | 2010-07-29 18:47:00 Author: eagerneph Posts: 1536 |
Pixar is just milesssssss ahead. Every single one of their films has just blown me away. Their worst film, Cars, was at least on par with Dreamworks best. Dreamworks have a few good films but it's largely hit and miss. Shrek 1 was the only one i really enjoyed, others like Kung Fu Panda are fun to watch but nothing more. And why do they all do that same face D: | 2010-07-29 18:56:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
I like them both equally, and I hope i ncan animate for dreamworks when I grow up ( hard but i'll try) | 2010-07-29 19:00:00 Author: Unknown User |
The Shorts just get better and better! Geri from Geri's game has a cameo in Toy Story 2! I love the newest one, Partly Cloudy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV7HO9FazkI&feature=related Their newest one is Night and Day at the beginning of Toy Story 3, you should go see it! | 2010-07-29 19:02:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Pixar is a giant. Dreamworks is a smaller giant. That's the way I'll put it. | 2010-07-29 21:05:00 Author: talbot-trembler Posts: 1114 |
Hmm this is a hard decision to make. On one hand I love Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and ... hmm that seems to be it for Pixar as for Dreamworks I love Shrek, Shrek 2, Over the Hedge, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, Madagascar 2 ok so not a hard decision tho I must admit that Pixar does some great shorts Oh and I am sorry to admit that I really really dislike the Toy Story films, they are some of the most boring films it has been my misfortune to have to sit through. | 2010-07-30 05:25:00 Author: cthulhu82 Posts: 211 |
PIXAR all the way Dreamworks is good, but has had a couple stinkers...... But I have laughed at every Pixar film to date! | 2010-07-30 15:45:00 Author: EvYarrum Posts: 8 |
