Sony Hooks Up PS3 With User-Generated YouTube Channel
Posted on Tuesday, October 14 @ 16:42:54 PDT
SCEA has teamed up with online video community YouTube, to create a PlayStation branded channel that delivers exclusive video content to the worldwide PlayStation community. In the future, users will be able to take advantage of the PS3?s interface to create game mode videos, starting with LittleBigPlanet.

Launching today, October 14, 2008, and available at www.youtube.com/playstation, the PlayStation channel on YouTube will offer fans a place where they can easily access new trailers and game footage, check out interviews with publishers and developers, share user-generated content, participate in PlayStation promotions and contests, and stay connected to the PlayStation experience. More than 50 pieces of content will be available at launch, including features for SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, MotorStorm?: Pacific Rift, NBA ?09: The Inside, and the PlayStation?Network.

An evolving service, the PlayStation channel on YouTube will initially consist of a primary PlayStation channel with a regularly updated ?Featured Video? and an embedded menu bar for specific games that takes users to a playlist page for additional video content. Fans will be able to customize their own YouTube playlists with PlayStation content and also subscribe to the PlayStation channel for updates. The channel will also consist of a menu bar that allows users to interact directly with other components of the PlayStation community, including PlayStation.com (http://www.us.playstation.com/) and the PlayStation Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/). In addition, SCEA will leverage the PlayStation channel to showcase contests alongside SCEA?s promotional activities, encouraging fans to submit original content for a chance to participate.

In the future, PlayStation?s YouTube channel will feature a user-generated content section within the channel, as publishers and developers take advantage of the PlayStation 3?s advanced application programming interface (API) to allow users to create game mode videos. SCEA will also launch game-specific enhanced YouTube channels, starting off with the highly anticipated game LittleBigPlanet.

LittleBigPlanet, which launches on October 21 will also have its own YouTube channel coming out in November and will feature cross-promotion with the LittleBigPlanet.com community.

That is pretty darn cool. Nice to see Sony putting in the effort for the community for once, even if it is only a promotion opportunity for them. Now all I have to do is remember my Youtube account details...2008-10-15 13:16:00

You can already do it with pixeljunk eden. So I have my fingers crossed that they will incorporate this not only into LBP but all games in the future.

PS3-Sense writes "Sony just opened their own Youtube channel where you will be able to find the latest videos about your favorite PlayStation products directly from Sony Computer Entertainment. But thats not everything when LittleBigPlanet launches on 21 October you will be able to capture in-game video's and upload them directly to Youtube. LittleBigPlanet will be also getting their own Youtube channel."

My recording will not be needed... :'(

I wouldn't say the halo theatre was crap, it opened up a lot of interesting doors. When the game first caqme out I was using it to watch back my matches, and as it's a full 3D reconstruction of the entire match, not just your screen, you could find out exactly where the bullets came from and what you were doing wrong, it's visionary.

This, however, is still MIGHTY awesome. I wonder if it takes audio from Mics? It's make things like the project of idiots of LBP even easier...

I haven't heard anything about this anywhere else, and I would take it as a rumor for now. I think this kind of thing would have been bigger news if it were true. I also think it would have been mentioned somewhere in the reviews by now, but I haven't seen anything in the reviews about it.2008-10-15 19:12:00

Great, millions of vids on one channel

However will we find the good ones xD

Seriously, if people start posting their levels its gonna suck because it gets pretty boring just watching levels unless they are above above average. I'd like to see loads of Crowlzors type vids though, but no editing tools.

*is happy* xD

I don't think they will all go on one channel though, I mean you can upload with Spore and Pixeljunk, and you just type in your youtube name and pass and it goes on your own account.

Now that would make it 100x better

I still won't use it though, if you upload with spore you get loads of ads all over your video page. I'd rather stick with my trusty dvd recorder xD2008-10-15 21:23:00

How does that work? I've never heard of a "dvd recorder" to record video game playing on PS3. I've been trying to figure out how to record off of my PS3.

I'm going to have to agree with you. I played my share of halo3 before I left the darkside. The theatre was actually pretty useful. It was fun to share some of thos OMG moments. Like owning everyone in a minute or less.

With LBP, we could show are levels, share great moments, and create little movies. This is great. Sony is really stepping up. First, in game screenshots and now they're working on making this a reality. Way to go Sony. [I think I'm going to send MM a fruit basket]
