I really don't like Sony atm. Yeah, the shouldn't have released the firmware at all right? The firmware is great IMO. Sure, the in-game photos thing is a disappointment, but come on, you should've seen this coming. A staff response from the official PS blog: "All games will have the capability to support in-game screenshots. It's up to the developers to offer this feature, and we expect that they?ll want to do so for new titles. Some developers may decide to patch previously released games as well." Flash 9 upgrade? Awesome. There are few flash movies that still don't work though, but meh. Automatically turn off your controller after 10 minutes? Very much needed. I am a huge multitasker, and I have the tendency to forget to turn off my controllers sometimes. This was a very good feature, and I can honestly say that I never expected them to bother putting this in. Good thing they did. | I understand where Miffy is coming from on this one. I'm not saying the rest of the updates aren't welcome, being able to have your PS3 shut itself off automatically after it finishes downloading will be great, I've been waiting for that for ages, since the 360 implemented it 18 months ago, but still, not having screengrabs a PLAYSTATION feature, not a game by game feature is lazy. Look at trophies. Compare how many developers have put trophy support into released games, compared to those who haven't bothered. I doubt I'll be able to screen grab from my copy of Ratchet and Clank, as the devs said they weren't putting trophy support in, why would they bother putting screenshot support in there? | Who gives a hoot at whether or not you can take in-game screenshots anyway. It was incorporated into MGS4, but it wasn't really used that much. Its just gonna be one of those "Cool for a week" things. | Hm a tad disapointed with he firmware gota agree with drunk miffy here I was expecting as soon as sony said ingame music before and in game screenshots I was thinking tha meant universal such as X360 but not if it's up to developers it kinda loses it's shine. | It's stupid when they could've made it a feature for the PLAYSTATION. Not the games.. You wait, when they say "You can have voice chats through games", it'll by another Game by Game feature. How hard is it for people to understand that it's not Sony's fault? There are two main reasons why you can't take a screenshot until devs patch their games. 1 - Mapping a "screen capture" button onto the controller cannot be done as any button on the controller might be used by the game itself, thus leaving it impossible for Sony to implement. 2 - Creating a screen capture option on the XMB would be pointless as most games automatically enter the pause menu when the PS button is pressed. I get so envious playing at my friends on his 360, him talking to whoever he likes when he's playing. | Uhh, by the way, the sole reason why In-game music has to be supported by developers and is not universal is because Microsoft has a patent on universal background playing of music during games. Not even kidding. That is the reason why. And for the in-game screenshots, I think it has to be supported and not universal is because it probably takes some power to use, and instead of having to use it, or sony making it universal (consequently taking up needed power), they give developers an option. As for the update, it probably wasn't supposed to be exciting (besides auto off controller feature[!!!!!!!!]) it was mainly meant for groundwork and probably had a lot of behind the scenes work for when they launch Home. | 2008-10-16 02:16:00 Author: LightGrenades  Posts: 218 |
| Anyone notice this? I realized today when I put in a Blu-ray disc (Kill Bill FTW!) that I wasn't logged into the PSN and when I went to login it told me I had to update. This has been dangerous in the past but it looks like this release features... You can take in game screenshots (w00t!) Flash 9 support Improvements to the account management and store UI Supposedly, things are snappier BD/DVD Settings renamed to Video Settings Scene search added to Videos from the control panel for video playback You can turn off the PS3 or wireless controllers automatically when not used for a certain period of time I'm probably leaving off a couple of things, but my source was PSX Extreme (http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/3941.html). I liked that I agree with the discussion about in game screenshots: it's probably not easy for them to make it work across all games. I wish it could be something you could pick from a menu with the PS button, but not a big deal.
