Suggestion: Suggested Music Objects

Archive: 7 posts

So I really like making music in LBP. It's definitely one of the most rewarding things that I've ever done in the game and I would love to take it a level further (so far I know LBP2 is offering things such as reverb, the ability for notes to be heard throughout a level, and then there's volume control). All the things LBP2 offers so far is fantastic and all, but I sure hope they take it even further than just what I said and the sequencer logic piece. What I mean is that they add 4 new sound types: Brass, Wind, Percussion, and String. So I'm going to list a bunch of instruments that I hope to see in LBP2. Each instrument will have a number ranging from 1-5 based on the priority that I want them in. (1 being "IT HAS TO BE THERE!" and 5 being "Well it would be nice I guess.")

Just another quick suggestion. I really hope they increase the scale of the notes an octave each for both treble and bass. (Meaning, we have 4 octaves currently in LBP1, so what I'm hoping for is 6) Also, I'm hoping for the new instruments (assuming they've already added some) each come with a high and low version, and each of those to have 6 octaves as well.

Brass**:
- Trumpet 1
- Trombone 1
- Saxophone 1
- Tuba 1

Wind:
- Flute 1
- Recorder 2
- Ocarina (duh) 1
- Pan Pipe 5
- Piccolo 3
- Clarinet 2
- Bassoon 2
- Oboe 2
- Harmonica 1

String:
- Banjo 1
- Cello 2
- Violin 1
- Viola 3
- Clavichord 2
- Bass Guitar (one with high and low versions) 4
- Acoustic Guitar 2
- Electric Guitar 3
- Fiddle 5
- Harp 2
- Harpsichord 5
- Koto 5
- Lute 4
- Piano* 1
- Sitar 3

Percussion:
- I know they have a lot of percussion already but I think the quality is er....unsatisfactory. So if possible, I'd love it they updated the sounds. (I understand they have to have reverse compatibility. What I was thinking is having the updated drums just under the new sound object piece for percussion. That way reverse is still possible, but LBP2 users can use the new updated version) 1
- Conga 3
- Steel Drum (oh I love these) 1
- Agogo 3
- Tambourine 2
- Timpani 4
- Bells 2
- Chimes 2
- Marimba 1
- Xylophone 2
- Cowbell (needs more of it I say) 1
- Gong 1
- Clapping 2
- Maraca 5
- Triangle (not synth) 4
- An er...click sound. 1

Other:
- Voice (like an angel/churchy sounding "AHHHH") 1

* About the piano. This can be done a lot like the percussion I suggested earlier. Put the updated piano in with the strings (or percussion, I've never really known what to call it. :x) and keep the old one for backwards compatibility. I've seen a video where they open up the music object (the white speaker) and it looks the same. This worries me a bit because I'm afraid it'll hinder their ability to update the current sounds and make them better.

** Brass instruments have many varieties of those basic four listed. Like Tenor, Alto, Bass, and err...uhh I honestly can't remember what the other range is. :x So yeah. All those types are just grouped into those 4 so I want all of them. xD

So yeah. Let me know what you think of my suggested sound objects (I know there's a lot, which is why I put priority numbers next to them) and post other suggested sounds, ect. I just hope someone else agrees that this needs attention.

(Also, please do NOT say that "LBP2 is gonna have a composer." Unless I can see viable info that this is true, I won't accept that "Compose Music" means they'll have an editor for such things. I personally see it as the majority of the community is reading too much into those two words and I don't think much will change other than what I stated at the beginning of this post.)

That would be flippin awesome! Also, I think the ability to put entire fan-made songs on little circuit boards will help things immensely. (E.G you have someone make a song based around your level and he can just gift it to you.)

Also I'd like to see some cool synth keyboard sounds to help compose some sweet electro-pop songs.

I can honestly picture custom soundtracks becoming big if they add more instruments. I mean...it just sounds so out of place when everything is piano. It needs to sound more like the instruments used in Mm tracks (although I'm sure that high quality of sounds would be difficult to put in).2010-07-28 01:29:00

Great idea, but you also need a saxophone sound.2010-07-28 01:32:00

That Shamisen sounds a lot like a Koto (just saying. xD) I also already have saxophone. It's in the brass section. And uh...yeah. While naming off instruments that I think would be useful, I seemed to have put tambourine. It's already in the game so ignore it (too lazy to edit lol).

I've watched that Thermin video before too! It's so...awesome. O.o Like I don't understand it.
