I just had a virus caled

AntiVir Solution

I don't know how it entered my computer but it was there, i couldn't open anything, The virus kept saying i had over 100s of viruses and wanted me to buy the software.
Everything i tried to open on my computer it said it was a virus, even MSCONFIG.
I logged out of the user on the computer i was on (Our family computer uses the same user all the same one)
I went onto the guest user and i did a few things and i guess i eliminated it for now....

It was really scary cause if i didn't eliminate it before my dad got home (in 1 hour he will be home now) He would Explode in anger at me!

Anyway while i had the virus the first thing i did was run to my grandma's room, my grandma has a wall with Important people to me. (religiously)

Some i don't even know like ministers from other churches.
But the ones i knew, ST. Mary, and Jesus were there, and i prayed and asked them to help me out here,
And they did!
My computer is virus free,,, for now!

That's how scared i was with this virus on my computer! It was the worst virus i have ever seen.

So if you see AntiVir Solution on your computer go on your computers guest and attempt to fix it, because on the guest you are virus free, so you can go on the internet to look for solutions.
Anyway i will restart my computer now to double check to see if it is fully gone.

I had that virus. ****ing hated it, too. Here's what I did:

1.Go to Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a program.
2. After that, uninstall any programs that you recently downloaded. It may be the cause.
3. Delete unfamiliar ones. Sometimes random programs install without permission.
4. You're done.

If it was a file (which I think I had one as a file), then do this:

1. Go to Computer > Local Disk ( C: ) > Windows > System32.
2. Delete any files that you know don't belong there (ex Trojan_horse).
3. Close and restart the computer.

It's what I did and I was able to have my laptop working again. Those virus scanning programs sometimes don't work, so I just use them to check what the fie name is called so I can delete it later on.

I hope that helps.

I once had a really convincing popup telling me I had 3 viruses.

Luckily I'm a grammar nazi and I spotted a grammatical error - I then knew it wasn't legit, for Bill Gates would never allow such a thing!!

D: I got that one twice in the last few weeks! lol It's a particularly nasty little thing. As was said malwarebytes is the thing for it. The funny thing is it's like no you can't run x, it's infected, buy me! I couldn't even run task manager I was like The easiest way for me was to restart, then open task manager before it started up, end the process then run malwarebytes, antivir solution go byebye. Both times I was in ie explorer, piece of crap!2010-07-26 23:39:00

You know what would've been ironic? If it sent you a link to an anti-virus program like Malwarebytes.

This reminds me of a similar "fake antivirus" virus I had to deal with at work (because they use the wonderful Symantec pro-virus suite).

It would randomly warn of fake virus infections and tried to prove it by opening Internet Explorer and attempting to navigate to bad websites periodically. Of course, being the smarter programmer I had immediately disabled the network connection beforehand when I first suspected an infection, so that it wouldn't spread to other computers through the network. So those attempts failed utterly.

I tried to identify and kill the process in the Task Manager, but the virus would automatically close every program I tried to open. Fortunately, I knew its Achilles' heel. Since it was trying to navigate to websites using Internet Explorer, I knew it wouldn't close a program called "iexplore.exe", so I made a copy of the task manager and renamed it "iexplore.exe". This allowed me to open the Task Manager and kill the virus' processes.

I then simply cleaned up the registry and deleted any executable run on startup that I didn't recognize or was in an suspicious folder.

The moral of the story is: if you're using a bad/out-of-date antivirus, or no antivirus, you have to know how to deal with viruses. It's best to have an antivirus, antispyware and firewall installed though. It saves a lot of hassle.

If it wont let you do anything try going on the computers guest account, i think most windows computers have that now.

I got so scared my mom got on the computer, and after like 10 seconds, she was like
"Mark why isn't this working?"
I looked at the screen and it was a glitch with the facebook login screen and all she had to do was refresh the page

I have a mac now, and have no problems with virus's ever.

I did get a fake virus once. I clicked on this link, and it sent me to this wierd window (it was actually a PC virus scan, so it kinda tipped me off), and it said I had a virus detected and that their software could prevent it from doing anything. I lol'd and clicked back.

Yeah thats a bit of a pain and you might delete stuff that is unfamiliar yet essential or miss other things that need to go.

For windows users:

If it is something that appears in add/remove programs then the best tool to use is Revo Uninstall. It'll not only clean out the program but also every other little link it had to show that it was ever on your PC, all the dll and registry files and hidden stuff that other uninstallers leave behind.

It's also a great way to re-use limited time demos over and over again.

Funny extra:
I went to a couple of websites before that have popups scanning my computer for viruses (looks like genuine windows scan)...... you have 34 infected files and 4 known viruses click hear to remove...

HA haha HAHA AHA AHAAHHa ha!

I'm running LINUX!! scam FAIL!

It looks like you got off litely, there are multiple versions of this virus out there, some worse than others. The problem is the scam actually works and they make millions of dolors a year.
My friend got a very similar virus on his laptop, he had to format his drive and install a new operating system to get rid of it. Luckily that was around win7 release so he got that on it.
I actually like this virus, as difficult as that is to say it is impressive to see people make real money out of something like that. Anyways glad you managed to get rid of it.

I was actually watching anime from random websites (how smart am I?) . And for weeks they were fine. Until one day I got to a website where it had all the episodes of the anime i was watching. So then I was just clicking "next episode""next episode""next episode" and then it all went crazy. pop-ups everywhere saying I had hundreds of viruses and more pop-ups. I was just shocked. I was on my user and I logged off. I logged on to my sister's deleted mine from there. Only my user was infected. It was such a huge relief, until a couple of days later I realized that my summer homework had been on my user so it got deleted. I had to do it ALL OVER again :2010-07-27 04:19:00

What I find hilarious about mal-ware, is that when it says it's anti-virus, so it "scans" the computer...the thing is, it somehow manages to scan the whole computer in 2 seconds...and find all these "problems". Bleh.2010-07-27 05:20:00

I'm not sure if this is a virus, but I've just remembered that my laptop hasn't been working for like six months. My friend was over and she turned it on, and it just didn't do anything. I'd turn it on, and you'd have to press a button (I think it was like F10 or Esc or something), just to get past a blank screen. Once you'd done that you'd get the standard black screen with blocky white writing. When it got to that, no matter what I clicked, it wouldn't do anything helpful. :/

This thread reminded me of it, so I got it down, plugged it in, and tried turning it on, but nothing happened - No lights, nothing.

Any ideas?

Well I find you often need one specific software to kill some thing. Malwarebytes is great for that Antivir solution thing, but whatever you have might take something else.

Make sure whenever you start up any software to fight these things you try updating immediately so you know it's up to date.

Another 2 if you haven't tried might catch it as not all find the same thing.

DOWN WITH WINDOWS!! Have a free Linux OS Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/)

Linux has fewer viruses than Macs all are version specific, can run on practically any hardware. It is now as user friendly as windows, has lots of compatible software (open office, gimp, xmms (winamp) etc). and is free! probably won't run some games tho.

Maybe browsing known safe sites is a better option? Antivirus programs slow your machine but it is worth using. I recommend AVG, another problem can come when you load up too many anti-virus, anti-malwarem, anti-spyware programs. There are many options out there pick something good and try to avoid installing too many different things. I personally can't stand Norton, it is a nightmare to re-subscribe.

I get all my dodgy/untrustworthy torrents and stuff with my linux box or you can use VM ware (infected VM's you can just delete the entire machine ).
