LBPC- The Trading Card Game!

Archive: 17 posts

Hey people! Remember that thread about the LBPC Trading Cards?

Well I'm making a game out of it! Using programming!

You know, if I can get copyright from Media Molecule. True the original thread was started by mrRadical, but the idea of a computer game was only brought up by me.

Anyways, I have a few goals for the TC Game, and each one should be done by the following dates:

Programmed the game, with online ability:
October 15th

Gotten a domain name for it:
October 18th

Gotten the game on the internet:
October 31st (Halloween)

Programmed a point/achievement system:
Late November

So the game should be playable By Halloween, if not EARLIER, but hey, don't expect it too soon.I definitely will not finish it this summer, and Halloween might be pushing it enough.

So yeah, post comments, feedback, and suggestions.

EDIT: I totally forgot! I need a couple assistants for the LBPC Card Game ! I will need the following roles:
----------------------------
Brainstormers:
I need a few guys to come up with basic ideas for the game. Just basic brainstorming. No requirements needed, but a creative mind would help.
-------------------------------
Card Artist:
Someone who could get cards finished. I mean copying in stats, Attacks, Finding pictures, ANYTHING that gets a card created. We are using Dayne's final design for our cards.

Requirements: Must be good with photoshop. Not Dayne good, but good. Also, must be familiar with a photoshop program that has the quality of Microsoft Paint, or higher. Also, must have enough time on their hands to design a ton of cards. (Not literally; You get my point.)
----------------------------------
Official PSN Account: I already have about five PSN Accounts. This is complicated enough. The last thing I need is another PSN account to manage. Someone needs to sign up for our Official PSN account.

Requirement: Must have PlayStation Eye .You'll See why; Hey that rhymes! I can make a rhyme, anytime. I'm poet, and I didn't know it. Okay, that was lame, and I'm ashamed. I'm getting weird, just as I feared! It's a curse, and it's getting worse,.

Okay, yeah, I just humiliated myself on every level. Why is this stuff in the requirements section?
----------------------
Simplifiers: These people are the first people to get the new ideas. They simplify the idea, and give it to me. This has already been planned, but say for example the brainstormers wanted the user to get a new achievement. In the achievement, the user gets awarded points for unlocking an entire pack set of cards. The simplifier would then think about it, and determine that the user would get an additional 50 points for getting all 24 superhero DLC cards.

Requirements: None. Creative mind would help though.
---------------------

Of course, anyone who signs up should devote themselves at least a couple hours a week to this project.

Staff List:

Brainstormers:
dragonvarsity
huntedstorm
FreeAim
Currently, we can't take anymore brainstormers until we have One Simplifier, and One Card Artist.

Artists:
???

Official PSN Account:
???

Simplifiers:
???

So... are you just programming it? Do you have any idea what you can add or pertain it to LBPC?

If it could be a program, that would make the whole thing easier... as long as it's online enabled...

But when you say LBPC, do you mean based off LBPC users or just LBP?

If it's LBPC user's, you'd probably want to get someone who knows a lot of stuff... like me. D:

But I'm currently working with radical, but he's busy and stuff. I like his idea of making it like Pokemon TCG more then something else, but yeah.

He also is good at making challenges, so there could be challenges which give you special cards which help you... but yeah, you may want to talk to him, ahving two competing ideas would be hugely counter productive <_>

The entire process is fairly simple.

Step 1: I found the thread a while back ( A week or so). I went through, gave each card a value, and added it to the game.

Step 2: I invented the rules. The basic idea is that a card has its stats (Kindness, General Talent, etc. I'm using Dayne's design.). The attack assigned to each card, e.g. Web of Guilt, subtracts stats from a card. To be specific, If Spider-Jew used his attack "Web of Guilt", then the card he was battling would lose 10 intelligence. Then, each person would take turns using attacks. Once a player has run out of General Talent, the card dies, and the player moves on to the next card, until either player has lost all three cards.

Step 3: I began programming it.

Step 4: Once I'm done, Over the period of a couple weeks, I will get it online, hopefully by Halloween.

Now for the questions you asked:

1. So... are you just programming it?
Yes, I'm programming it. But the word "just" implies that I'm purely doing it for the fun of it. As I stated in Step 4, I do not simply intend to only program it. In the end, I hope it will turn out to be a thriving community of LBP lovers wasting their lives online, collecting cards, for no price, and earning achievements.

2.Do you have any idea what you can add or pertain it to LBPC?
I don't quite understand. Could you be more specific? I don't understand the word "pertain" in that context. Please re-state the question in a different form and context.

3. But when you say LBPC, do you mean based off LBPC users or just LBP?

Good Question. Based off of both. I have series of different cards. Here is the list:

Player Cards: These Cards are based off of LBPC Users.

Sackboy Cards: These cards are based off of DLC costumes, nothing else. No pirates, but we have Solid Snake, every Superhero Costume, etc.

Moderator Cards: Umm... What can I say. Pretty Rare, yet powerful.

LBPC Card Creators: Cards of People who helped create the Card Game. The first ones I can think of would be RockSauron, Dayne, mrRadical, and, of cours, me.

Confused Cartman: Umm... Duh.

And you said "Yeah, you may want to talk to him. having two competing ideas could be hugely counter productive <_>", You are right. I'll go PM him right now. And should edit my post too.

... I unno what I just said either O-o (referring to numero dos)

But yeah, if you want to base it off LBPC and people here, I insist I help... but I still would like the Pokemon thing more. I unno. and I'm working with radical. You two need to decide something, because there can be only one card game based off LBPC because two would just fail.

And if the attack doesn't take away General Talent?2010-07-26 23:11:00

And if the attack doesn't take away General Talent?

Well, there are several uses for each stat.

General Talent = Health

Kindness = Whenever a sackboy has the ability to heal, they need kindness. No kindness = No healing.

Creativity = Some folks have multiple attacks. These people need creativity to use multiple attacks. Once they run out, they can no longer use even one of their attacks. This doesn't affect people with only one attack.

Intelligence = Intelligence lets you attack at all, even if you have just one attack. This doesn't affect people who have multiple attacks.

As an alternative to a move, or when your attack(s) is/are disabled, you have four buttons on your Attack Menu. One for each stat. You can press either your attack, e.g. Web of Guilt, or press a stat button and lower one of your opponents stats by 5.

Like Web of Guilt doesn't lower General Talent, but if you want to lower general talent, you can press the "General Talent" Button, and lower the opponent's GT by 5.

Make sense?

This looks cool and it looks like you've really thought this out. I do have a question. Is there any way we could request a card of ourselves. If so, I'd be happy to send a sticker picture of my sackboy. Also, I'd be happy to be a brainstormer and if you need beta testers just to test out the game before it's out I'd also be happy to do that.2010-07-27 00:52:00

Cool. I'll update. We have a brainstormer.

And your Questions:

1. Is there any way we can request a card of ourselves?

Yes. Once we have a card designer, we will open up a thread in Artwork and Creativity for designing cards. Also, I'll PM you the CLASSIFIED staff site right now.

Also, you said "beta tester". There is no "beta tester". This isn't a game I'm making. I had an idea awhile back. Like, this morning. It is ALSO classified. It's on the site.

So... do you have any past experiences as a programmer and can do stuff like this?

Also, if you're going to base it off of LBPC users and stuff, you'd probably have to get someone who knows everything about LBPC... <_< >_>

And if it's going to be based off LBPC, you may want to talk to CC.

But yes, if you want this to be LBPC The Card Game, it'd be better if someone who actually knew people here was able to come up with ideas. Unless it's LBP the card game. which would be different.

And radical hasn't been seen recently. I unno. Something must be done. <_< >_>

Sorry Guys, Internets out. I'm stuck typing on an iPhone on 3G Network. I wont be doing much typing.
@HuntedStorm: Do You have Microsoft Paint? That would work, if you know how to use it.
@Rocksauron: how would I talk to CC about it? Is there a chat room? And you are right. I need someone who knows LBPC. Anyone?

By "someone" I meant me. /cough

And send CC a pm, but you amy want to wait until you actually get somewhere.

And I'm still working with mr radical... which is why I want you two to figure out how you two can work together because I don't want two games competing and being more complicated then it needs to be <_>

Well then, I guess what I should do is stop actually programming and just get ideas. When Radical PM's me back, I will work on whatever weve decided, and halfway through, I could PM CC, and see what he thinks.2010-07-27 18:04:00

I can help you in this project, but I have to know a little more about this than what I red in the comments.
Actually I had the same idea so I have imagined almost whole game alrdy in my head. So I could help if you already don't have 2 brainstormers...

Yes. Your in. But I never said just two brainstormers. So long as brainstormer is not the only type of person we have. As soon as I get internet back, I'll PM you.2010-07-27 21:15:00
