Recording Sound on LBP2?!?

Archive: 21 posts

since i got info about LBP2 on May the 9th, ive been slightly worried about possible outcomes for audio recording on the new game. one of these worries is the fact that may abuse this new tool aka naughty sackboys using sweary marys, soo would their be like a rating on the level ? or banned completely, but sound recording beholds sooo many more opportunities like music making and adding more ambience to the level, for sackboys who hate reading XD i would sure use it but itll also be funny if they did a stand up comedy act in LBP :L with updates everyday or somit, and if youre creating movies on lbp or OMG sooo many ideas to try ! if youve seen LBP news on LBP, the creator i forget... with this new tool! well.. itll be a real news show! :O2010-07-26 18:30:00

The ability to record your own sounds has been covered before. Moving this to suggestions and speculation.2010-07-26 18:34:00

I don't think it's gonna happen because LBP is aimed at the family genre i think and if their 5 year old children here beep this and beep that then, well media molecule are gonna be in trouble. It's impossible to moderate sound recording.2010-07-27 17:23:00

yeah swearing and inappropriate language will be dealt with in the same way that if some-one up loaded stickers of pron in LBP 1, people worring that copyright will be violated will be a major pain in LBP2 have nothing to fear, music is replicated, game characters are scanned in, - alot of this is just the same.

- personally i wanna record samples of my own music and add it to LBP2 and make my own music tracks for other players - and share via a microchip sound recording is gonna be great.

however i can see it being a double edged sword in the fact we're gonna hear hammy acting and squealing children lol

So, my fear here is this will be akin to how the PS eye could make custom stickers in LBP1, you can do it, but the quality is noticably poor when compared to in game material.2010-07-27 22:09:00

- I'm totally expecting the quality to be poor for sound recording too - if the quality is too high Mm is gonna be paying a lot for server space i'd imagine, It'll already be high for them as we speak, but now with people making games consisting of multiple levels and and extra one off customizables, i think they'd wanna keep the quality low, specially for level loading as well, imagine how long it would take to load a level with full voice acting, custom sounds etc.

I agree with cooki, its not like moderating is gonna be that hard, I mean even if there was something bad said in a speech bubble it totally took away the text. I don't see why voice recording's could be any different in moderating, besides just audio.

But for the topic I really want to make my own sounds effects. Actually I wouldn't mind just recording the sound effects in game.

lol, well, there is gonna have to be a whole lot more active moderating to find no-no's in audio, a computer program cannot just star out pre-selected words...

It won't be that big of a problem. Most creators probably know if it's something a little offensive, their level/game will be taken down. Creators don't like that, so they'll be smart enough to not do that. The 12-year-old's will learn the hard way.2010-07-28 02:32:00

Actually PS3 SDK have voice recognition, i don't know about calibrating this thing to recognize random people, but if VR will identify bad words it knows where yousaid it and it can be beeped out. It might be not much effective, but still.

Either way moderation is good in LBP1 already, LBP1 can't detect what shapes you drawing

Moderating is never going to be perfect, but I think they may be able to moderate sounds.
and as you said, it'd be tough for them to moderate naughty shapes, naughty combinations of stickers/decorations/mag keys.etc

Are you guys crazy? Did you hear the quality of tom's voice acting for the guy on Neon Propeganda? It sounded pretty clear to me. You can find it on one of Donkey-show's Game meet videos.2010-07-28 18:12:00

Yes you can record sound, but the only thing that worries me about that is when people record it, it will most likely come out sounding terrible ( thats why I am hoping for a way to import sounds ) But than when I watched some one play a story mission, the voice acting was crystal clear, so I don't know...
Yes you can record sound, and you may also be able to import it. (you better be able to import pics to!)

Then buy USB mic, those are best only problem might be codec, if it will be low quality, good mic won't save it

Good point, but another point, Mm have more tools than players do, they probably coded it straight in. but I could be wrong, however.

Sounds are not coded they probably use the same system but place there on files recorded with something else

If this was true, they wouldn't be making the levels/games with the true spirit of LBP. They made the first game with the same tools that would be given to the public. The only things they had that we didn't were videos, and highlight words in speech bubbles. It's true though with most other voice chat enabled games, peoples voices sound like they're coming from a microphone. They should though. But something Mm might do is give people an editor along with the voice recording tool so you can take out the grainy sound. This is probably the only solution I can think of.

Yeah that would be awesome, I don't think they need to go to overboard either if we could just record our sounds in game and then edit simple things like pitch and tempo that would be good and then at the end of editing it processes the sound making less grainy and higher quality.2010-08-04 19:16:00
