Help Using Lights and Switches
Archive: 8 posts
Hello everyone! Trying to get my first masterpiece down after creating some noobie stuff. There is one problem is particular that I was wondering if I could get some help from the pros. I have a part in my level where when you put an item in a slot, lights light up like this (O).....(O).....(O).....(O).....(O) Pretty much like some giant machine that just turned on. The problem is that when i made a mag key on a piston and made it run though all the other switches, I could only get the lights to turn on as it hit the radius of each switch. Instead, once its in the radius of the switch, I would like the light to stay on, so once the piston is finished moving all the lights should be on. Any ideas friends? - Anthony | 2010-07-26 17:25:00 Author: McFlurriez Posts: 19 |

Will do! Give me a second. | 2010-07-26 17:51:00 Author: McFlurriez Posts: 19 |
you could either put all the switches at the side opposite the piston and give them all regularly increasing radii, or you could connect each magnetic switch to a perma using dissolve. i dunno if those are your most efficient solutions but they both work | 2010-07-26 17:58:00 Author: monstahr Posts: 1361 |
Wow, these pictures REALLY shrink when you export them, very surprising for the ultimate multimedia system. Anyway, here is the URL of the area in questin I am referring to: http://tinypic.com/r/2lu3mol/3 I am trying to make it so when the artifact goes in that little square at the bottom of the cobblestone, the leds light up red from bottom to top. The only thing I've been successful to do is them light bottom to top, but one after the other. I am trying to get the effect where they stay on after they light up. Thanks! - Anthony Good idea from monstahr, which do you suggest is most efficient? I will try the perma switch and see how it works, I'll let you know! | 2010-07-26 17:59:00 Author: McFlurriez Posts: 19 |
The first method would be most thermo-efficient but it would be more difficult to get the timing right. If you have trouble with that then the perma switches using a grid would be your best bet. Its not that much more expensive, in terms of thermo. | 2010-07-26 18:10:00 Author: monstahr Posts: 1361 |
Got it working, thanks a lot! | 2010-07-26 18:21:00 Author: McFlurriez Posts: 19 |
Have the mag switch facing downwards so that the radius is the length of the block in question. As it goes up, it hits each light, and each key it passes will be permanenly in the radius of the switch. No extra thermo used, jobs a good 'un! Edit: Forgot to look at the picture first. In that case, make the angle wide enough to touch all keys as it goes up. Dunno how well this will work as I can't test it, but its worth a try xD | 2010-07-27 08:47:00 Author: Fish94 Posts: 554 |
