New PS3 Help

Archive: 6 posts

Later this year, most likely Christmas, I'm getting myself a PS3 along with LBP2.

Here's the question. I've been playing all my games on my brother's PS3 but he's moved out of home so as I said I'm getting my own. So can log in on my new PS3 with the account that is on my brother's PS3? Or do I have to start I new account and transfer all my save data. I don't care for trophies so they don't matter.

Thanks.

If you have access to his PS3 for a couple of hours you will be able to do a data transfer were all the content is copied over. It is meant to delete the content from the other console but recent firmware updates stopped it from doing that. I now have 2 PS3's that are almost identical in the files stored on them.

You will be able to access your PSN from a new user made on that console since the PSN allows you to have your account activated on up to 5 consoles. You will keep all of your trophies that you have synced to the servers.
If you copy your current save files you may have a problem since like half of them are locked save files. So they will only work on 1 console, the above data transfer allows use of these save files. So if you can that is what I would do.

If you go to settings/system settings there will be a menu item "Transfer Data". It gives you the instructions on how to connect the two PS3's with the Ethernet cable.

There are a few preparations you need to make!!!
1) It will not copy over your LBP profile, only back-ups of your profile and levels.
2) Make sure you load up Home one last time before transfer or you might not get back all your DLC.
3) Sync your trophies to the server.
4) Create a PSN account for any user account that you have DLC and/or downloaded games that might not work without PSN.

Good Luck! It will take a decent amount of time depending on much you have saved.

Thanks a lot, I'm terrible at this stuff. Now all I have to do is wait untill I have the money to buy it and for LBP2 to come out.

See also the online manual page (http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/3_15/settings/transferutility.html) for the Data Transfer Utility.2010-07-27 14:44:00
