(LBW7) Comic Calamity! Rescue the Cool PagesJedi_1993
LBW7 Competition entry.
The Spambots are disappointed in the cool pages and have stolen all of the player achievements as a punishement.
Can Sackboy get them back?

Backstory:
I wanted to enter as soon as I heard the theme. Having got the Marvel kit I decided to make it a comic book style level.
Now for the stroy. Most good comics are very story driven so I wanted a good plot.
The main problem going on when I started was the state of the cool pages. They still aren't great, so the story revolves around them.

Other:
Throughout the level are references to what has been, essentially, my childhood.
A cookie to whoever finds them all
The thermometer did indeed overheat, I could not add a thing. Which is a shame because I really wanted to add more.
The level has several prizes and is aceable for more.

Hey, i really enjoyed the level, untill my PS3 froze :/ I was laughing so hard when you put the team rocket reference in there. It was hilarious. I also thought that I was the only one with the idea to have a comic book style level, but I guess that the same idea can come to anyone . 4 stars plus and extra star for the team rocket reference 2010-07-26 03:11:00

Hey I just played the level yesterday and I see that you've changed the name from spambots to this by looking at the name of the thread now. anyway, I thought this was a fun level and I haven't really seen any levels that's used speech bubbles as stickers on a wall instead of using the magic mouth. I liked the story plus I thought the characters were fun. Some of the gameplay was a bit different, but it was still a lot of fun and I've seen a lot of people say sorry my level overheated so it's a lot of fun that you made sort of a pun out of it by actually having aa burnt hole in the level. I don't know why you took out letters of most of the speeches, but I'm sure it's not because you can't spell, lol because the speeches you did use with magic mouths were spelled correctly. Anyway, if you could tell me that would be good and if there's no reason maybe for bonus points it could say at the end how many letters were missing but I'm betting there wouldn't be room after the overheat and that some speeches disappeared too quickly for me to fully read. Overall, :star::star::star::star::star:2010-07-26 17:36:00

Thanks for the feedback dragon!
But I'm a bit confused. Do you mean that some of the stickered speech bubbles were missing letters? Because they shouldn't be, and aren't when I play the level.
As for them disappearing too soon, I'll adjust the sensors.

Great level! Very fun!
I loved how going through the sections were reading through the panels of a comic book. Plus there was a bunch of nice little gameplay elements that kept me entertained, like the black room vs paint gun, through to that simple rocket powered platform.
While I think the visuals could be a -little- better, this level has so much charm and humor (big lol @ death ray room comment in the panel after) that it pushed my rating up to 5 stars. Plus a heart.
Only one niggle, the magic mouth's radius on the last spambot needs to be bigger.
The skip story sticker is always nice to have. Not that I would use it in this level.

Will change that radius next time I'm on.
I really wanted to do more with the visuals but once I got the gameplay and panels in place, the thermo didn't leave me with much room for detail.
Glad you liked it!

Hey, I played the level again and there were no missing letters. I guess it was just a bug I had that one time. Anyway, great job. Also, if your going to change the namer of the level on the level page and it's thread, you should probably do so on your sig because it still says spambots so some may be a little confused when doing F4F. The only speech bubble that disappeared too soon was when you encounter the two spambots and you're about to fight both of them.2010-07-26 23:38:00

First off, I thought the premise of the level was a little weird, as it had me siding with the people that I had to kill...
Secondly, I liked the way the level looked, with the comic speech bubbles, and the team rocket thing was hilarious.
Unfortunately, I rage quit at the boss battle with delta, as I got really annoyed of being killed so much.
Anyway, other than that it seemed like a great level. I'll go back and beat it later.
Also, you should check out level "Republishing 101" if you want to get more than 50 plays...

F4F: Could you please play my level "EPIC Zombie Apocalypse"- https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=31064-EPIC-Zombie-Apocalypse&p=542747#post542747

You do know that's cheating. I'm definately not a fan of that...

As for the feedback.

I loved it, jedi. The story, I have to admit, was cheesy and predictable but the humour balanced it all out. At times the scenery was great and sometimes a bit "meh".

I loved all the gameplay elements you put into the level, very thought-out ideas that worked very well, especially the bosses.

Overall, :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 (I think I gave a heart)

I have been republishing but only when I actually change things.
And yes, the story is very predictable but it is very difficult to get a complicated story that everyone can understand. Glad you liked the humour!

Wow! This level was awesome!
Good:
+Story: was interesting and epic. It was easy to understand 'cause your english is clear and... understandable
+Gameplay: It changed few times and it didn't repeat itself. Every spambot had a different way to get pass them and they all were fun!
+Humor: ?The level had serious theme: cool pages and this kind of humor was exactly what level needed! Lol:''Prepare for trouble...''
Bad:
-Nothing very bad but I think that boss was little dissappointing. I excepted a little longer fight but if it's about thermometer then it's ok.

Critic: :star::star::star::star::star: and <3. Each star was well deserved and even that level wasn't very long it still wasn't too short. Keep up the good work!
In return, would you play my f4f level The Cellar?

I agree that the final boss is disappointing. But I think that the fact that there are other bosses make up for it.
Thanks for the review, will check out your level in a bit.

Positives:
OK. Let me start by saying I really was not looking forward to reviewing this level. The screen shots led me to believe I was going into some silly level built by a kid with silly ideas about a goofy cartoon level. In fact, as the level started and the opening scene was in one of a hundred similar bedrooms I've played on other cheesy levels, I thought to myself, "yep, here we go... wonder if I can make myself finish this level and give F4F". Wow, I couldn't have been more wrong!! Within a few moments of going throught the level I literaly felt like I was playing through a comic book!!

In fact, I'm writing this introduction after just finishing getting to the title screen!! I was laughing out loud over how clever and well thought out your icons, graphics, and story telling were. The Omega character, H4H icons, and the hero characters were awesome!! The presentation is certainly campy but a lot of great comics are. I am simply overwhelmed by how great this level is. Having the THWONK graphics pop up when creatures were killed was priceless. I felt like I was in one of the Wonder Women television episodes from the early 1980's.

I like the paintinator shoot up switches.

I'm going to say it again, your characters were just awesome.

I thought some of the game platforming elements were average but well executed, on the other hand there were a lot of the mini-boss battles that were very unique and really fun to play.

Suggestions:
The only suggestion I could think of was to revisit some of the more standard platforming elements you created, or add a few secret areas. These suggestions seem petty in light of how brilliantly executed this level was. I had a huge smile on my face the entire time!!

Characters :star::star::star::star::star:
Story :star::star::star::star::star:
Mini-boss battles :star::star::star::star::star:
Execution: :star::star::star::star::star:
Game play :star::star::star::star:

Overall I gave it :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3, tagged it "Ingenious" and <3'ed you as a creator. Simply great stuff. This level is a must play!

Lol, not only was this a great comic level, but funny to boot! The style of writing on the walls instead of using text is probably what really sold this level to me. That and the comedy. Oh and the boss fights, b/c superhero's exist to beat up the bad guys. So, Text + comedy + bad guys = 5 star comic book level!2010-07-28 03:52:00

Hiya-

This was a very fun level, the way you used fonts and stickers was stunning! I especially liked how whenever you defeated something a sign would come up that something like 'SHAPAM'. Overall, very fun level, good luck in the competition.

I rated the level :star::star::star::star::star:.

Wow! Thanks for all of the positive comments. They are really encouraging!
I hope the level does well in the competition, although I doubt it will win.
One other thing, I am leaving for the airport this afternoon for my holiday. So if anyone does give some more feedback I won't be able to F4F for 2 weeks. On the other hand, it will bump your thread.

Heh, I had the same idea doing custom text balloons and BAM ZOINK pop-ups a while ago. I was hoping to enter LBW7, too, I made a custom comic-like font and everything, but I ended up needing to spend too much time on repaving the garden.

Anyway, nice level, I especially liked the humour in it! Good luck with the competition.

Ok, I'm back from holiday.
Whilst away I have planned out the second one in what is likely to become a series.
Does anyone know when the results of the competition are out?

Excellent level Jedi. The comic book style is fantastic and the gameplay works really well. There's also some hilarious moments including the Pokemon TV show reference where Beta and Gamma used the Team Rocket's speech and the thermo so full that the page was barely burned. This level has multiple boss battles which is interesting and varied. The word pop ups are really clever too. Awesome work. 5:star:s and a <3 and a tag "hilarious"

I got a superhero themed level for you to check out and F4F. It's called "The Hero Chronicles LV6 Sky Metropolis"
