LBP2 on my laptop?

Archive: 20 posts

Now that we know that LBP2 supports mouse and keyboard input, i have just 2 questions.

I know it is possible to use a TV as a monitor for a computer. Is it possible to use a computer as a monitor for the PS3?

Secondly, is it possible to use a laptop keyboard as a wireless keyboard for the PS3?

If you could do both of these, then you could pretty much play LBP2 on a lap top. I mean, it wouldnt be running through your lap top, but the controls and display would be on it. Anybody tech savy enough to answer this?

I've researched something similar before.

Unfortunately, I've never seen a way of using a laptop's screen as a monitor. You can use a USB capture card, but I wouldn't bother. The lag is awful.

Oh, and I don't think that you can use your laptop's keyboard/mouse either. BUT - I'd say that ideas more feasible than using your laptop's screen as a monitor.

Oh really? Well yes then. I would assume there is a way of doing it

Probably should've mentioned that before...

I found a way to use the keyboard of a laptop for the PS3. The only problem is that it REQUIRES you to be hooked into the internet (i presume). Still working on the monitor part...2010-07-26 00:35:00

Well, i just chatted with a dell tech support guy, and she said that you can use the hdmi output on your PS3 and the hdmi input on your laptop to use it as a monitor!! Sweet!!

Really hope she was right! Im gonna test it out right now!

Hmm... first of all, i gotta find my HDMI cable. Im sure i have one somewhere in my house.

Secondly there is one speed bump. Not all laptops support HDMI input. Some only support HDMI output, so i might be out of luck. But we'll just have to wait and see.

Btw dude, there's and "Edit" button on the lower right of your posts, you ca nclick it to edit a previously made post and update it with new info, this is to prevent double posting as its not well looked upon in the site.
Just thought i'd tell you as double-posting multyple times may get you in trouble.

Back on topic.
Never really heard anyone being able to run a PS3 on their laptop, but that doesn't mean its impossible, now does it?

If it is indeed a HDMI in port (and not an out port) then I see no reason it won't work.2010-07-26 02:27:00

I've talked with a few stupid tech support people and they said that it SHOULD support an input, and i KGB'd it too hahaha and they said it supports both input and output. But now im stumped on how to change the settings on my laptop so that it displays the HDMI signal. And suggestions my fellow cyber nerds?2010-07-26 02:58:00

If you go into say, Windows Movie Maker, does it show up as a video source?

BTW - If you tell me what model of laptop you have, I'll take a look for you.

I have a Dell Studio 1537

I looked around and it doesn't seem like that laptop has HDMI In. Just out. Sorry

You do have card slots, though, right? They can be used for capture cards, and I don't think there will be as much lag as using a USB capture card. (There will still be lag though, so it's probably not actually worth it).

Well, it seems that you probably won't be using your PS3 via your laptop any time soon.

Hmmm thats odd, cause the tech people i talked to said it should support it. Although they didnt sound too convinced themselves. **** i think you may be right.

Well, im thinking of buying a new lap top anyways. Ill have to keep this in mind.

Everything I looked at said no, unfortunately.

To be honest, there aren't many tech support lines I'd actually trust. In fact, whenever I phone my broadband provider, I usually end up giving them advice They're literally that useless.

Hahaha well im gonna call dell tech support anyways. See if there is ANY way to do it at all other than with a capture card. Im thinking there might be a way to use s-video instead, maybe even a way to do it with s-video from the PS3 to USB on the laptop. Its a real stretch, and I probably sound like an idiot saying it, but there might still be a way.2010-07-26 14:38:00

Well, you can try that but the problem you'll have is that USB capture devices almost always have a few seconds lag, so you'll probably find it's not really worth it. Good luck, though
