New game mechaincs

Any thoughts on what you would like to see for new game mechaincs maybe with some DLC? I would love to see some sort of climbing and swiming for underwater levels maybe even a way to disable traps like using a trigger to dump water on a fire trap to put it out or something a long those lines2008-10-14 14:47:00

There are still ways to disable traps, I haven't tried making fire dissapear, but it could work, you can certainly negate it by making a bridge come across or cover it...

Still, it would be more dramatic to see the flames getting put out. Swimming would be nice, a few people have already mentioned water and magnetism, I'd like those too.

Not invincibility that lasted FOREVER.

You could set the time of it... so if you wanted to make a section where you have to run over an obstacle course made of fire before it runs out, you could.

Not necessarily a bad idea of invincibility to get over a hazard as you may still need skill to get to the power up and make it past the hazard if it was to say, run out as was suggested

u could make hazards that would adapt to the invincibility. i think it would be a good idea

Lots of talk about power-ups, maybe I should just make a new thread about them.

About the invincibilty, not a bad idea, but maybe just change it a bit. Make it so there is a power-up to make a certain danger have no effect. So, let's say there are three different paths you can take: one of fire, one of electricity, and one of gas. At first you are at an impass, because you have navigated helfway through every path to realize that you are unable to continue because of its dangers. You try to find an alternative path and you stumble upon a power up that protects you from gas! You now know to take the gas path!

As for tweaking options, you could make it so that it's like a score bubble where you just touch it to activate, or so that it's an object that you can carry and when you want to activate it you slap it open! Yeah! I just found a
use for slapping!

Nah, that would just ruin the challenge of the game, someone creating a really hard boss, and someone saving up there invicibility just to use it on the boss, I'd rather have it so "you touch it, it activates" like you said yourself, and have a timer.

That would be awesome, they should have it so some costumes do something to your advantage, like the gas mask could be a costume that prevents you from dying from gas... Actually nvm that would also ruin the purpose of the game lol.

I made a powerup thread long ago and it was shoot down, but in recent weeks it has seemed to surface again. I think it would be fun and add a whole new challenge to the game, again it would have to be properly tweaked for the level with timing and all.2008-10-15 04:13:00

I'd like to be able to copy settings from one piston to another or one spring to another. It's been a pain to edit the settings of each wheel or other tool.


Speaking of gravity. I actually worked out a way to make it appear like there is little gravity. It was a pain in the but and I never used it in any published levels yet still needs some refinement but it was pretty cool.

I only see one problem with this logic... It's tough enough to get a level going where someone isn't lagging behind. When you force the fastest player to continue forward as fast as possible, it's gonna cause the screen to go wide and eventually, 2 - 3 players to die. It'd be great for a single player level but, I wouldn't go higher than that.

A friend of mine wants Mm to add weapons and the ability to throw things. I don't think it would Mm would add it, though. At least the throw mechanic would cause the game to become more complicated and less approachable. I wouldn't mind the throw ability but, that can sort of be worked around so, whatevers.

I'm pretty happy with what was given in the beta so, I'm sure I'll be happy with the full game as long as the grief system does its job.

Okay so I discovered this on the last day of the beta while working on my second level. If you push in L3 you produce an exact copy of whatever object you are highlighting with your cursor. I hope that helps.

Regarding things to be added. Water definitely. I can already see Atlantis... Can someone please tell me whether there is a colouring tool in the retail version? I find my self painstakingly colouring everything with stickers when all I want to do is click on something, choose a colour and have it change to that colour instantly. For certain objects this is not necessary because the variety of fabrics/prints suffice but otherwise it would really come in handy.

Okay, but that's why it can be tweakable, to adjust to a player's desires. You can set it so it's just a touch-activate rather than the slap it open. You could set it for trigger radius to. I don't think that saving up your invincibility for the really hard boss would help, because if the boss really was that hard, then there is a good chance your invincibility is set to a time where you can't even beat the boss before it runs out. I'm not even sure that you could save it up until the boss, because if there is an invincibility power up, it's most likely to help you get through a part of the level that was impossible without it.

That's a great idea! It's a pain having to tweak all of your stuff to be the same. So maybe with the Pop-It Cursor you could click on a piston or something, and there would be an option for Copy Tweak Setting, and then you could apply it to another piston! Yay!

The way that peoples' minds work is they usually finish the whole thing first and then they realize, "Man, I need another one." Most of the time when you try to select an item to copy it, you get a lot of unwanted stuff with it. Then you're forced to detatch everything, copy it, and reattatch the original one. :kz:

Yeah i like those powerups It would be very cool if you could use power-ups. I mean... you could make something like super smash bros. Make an arena place some powerups for super jump and extra fighting skills or something and you got some cooooool stuf

Initially I thought you were right but then I remembered. In order to copy a tool item like a piston, it has to be connected to something for it to be useful. Even if it was connected to just a couple thin pieces of material. You'd have to copy all three to get this work since you cannot connect a piston after its been placed. As far as I know. Clank was right.

on second thought that does sound pretty, cool, if pulled off correctly, or maybe randomly-changing-selective-invincibilty, where you would only be invincible to a certain hazard for a short time, then it would switch to another invulnerablility, so it would take timing, and could act as a puzzle, say, if you were currently invincible to fire you would appear on fire and if you were invincible to gas yout might be a gaseous cloud, and maybe be floatier when jumping, and faster when electrified...... omg this is turning into elemental powers more than invincibility lol.. ANYWAYS!! if you could understand that mess good for you

I don't think they should not do it just because people will use it a lot. Wouldn't it make sense that they wanted people to use it a lot? Anyways, just because something is in the game, doesn't mean you have to use it.

I think it would be better to actually be able to lift small objects. Having to drag everything is a pain, and screws up your jumping. Along with the ability to carry objects, it would be cool if more than one Sackperson carrying the same object could actually affect it, like how carrying heavier objects on Jetpacks can require more than one Sackperson to lif it.


As for a new material I'd vote for ice. It's properties would basically be the same as glass, except that fire would melt it

There is already a danger tool to make objects 'Iced'.
