Geekiest (Video game related) thing you've done?

Archive: 72 posts

For me, it's probably one of the following:

Queueing outside Game for 4 hours for Halo 3. (I know it doesn't sound like much compared to some, but waiting outside shops barely happens at all in the UK for games compared to the US, especially not in the North, I got some funny looks for a while until some others started showing up, 2 hours later!

Owning all three editions of Halo 3.

Taking a full week off work to play Bioshock.

Completeing Final Fantasy VII properly (defeated all weapons, mastered every materia, got a gold chocobo etc) twice.

Anyone else got any?

Only thing I can put on my list is playing a real-life version of metal gear solid, with finger guns, with friends.

You know how it is.

"Go patrol somewhere whilst I lean on this wall and rty sneak past you"

They basicaly just pace up and down, you sneak past em. If they see you, you either kick off or shoot them once in the head and they have to die. If they kick off then you start a massive argument. Its nothing like the real game, unfortunately xD

Lol. not really.

If we hadn't have given up Wow we wouldn't be together now. Nearly split us up it did guvna.

The final straw is when we realised we were sat 5 feet from each other typing messages to each other.

Why is that 'Very...interesting' Creative?

Playing WoW for 8 months, with 6 other people. (People would consider them "cool" lol, so it might not be that geeky)

Finishing GoW 1 & GoW 2 Very hard mode.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Getting all the dog tags.(Had to finish it like 10 times...)

Some more:

Finishing all three Halos on legendary.

Watching all three LOTR movies back to back

Watching all 6 Star Wars movies back to back

Getting my gamertag/username engraved into my bracelet. (I'm also having it done onto a titanium ring, and if I can find one again, one of those mouse mats made of weapons-grade metal.)

I'm going to bend the rules a little here, as he's not in a video game, yet, but I also cut apart and sewed back together 2 green shirts (one light, one dark) in order to make a Green Lantern shirt.

I've done both those lol. It's not THAT geeky actually.

I think things that count as geekdom over here, may pale over in the US. When I have visited, people are, how can I say this? They are just in to their hobbies, their things they enjoy. I mean that as a compliment.

Take LOST for example, something people in my office are into. Did you watch it last night? Yes. What did you think of the bit with... It was good. Done! It's frustrating for someone who DOES get into things. I want to talk theories, I want to talk special effects, I want to talk, what's going to happen next? That's why I'm part of forums!

Honestly, if I mention to anyone in my office that I spent what was essentially a full day watching all the Star Wars's back to back, I would never hear the end of it.

Believe me, if anyone was willing to host a LAN party anywhere near me, I'd be there like a shot, sadly to my knowledge, there aren't many around, and most of them aren't willing to accept a newbie into their midst. Maybe I just grew up with the wrong crowd, but to me, the stuff I do is geeky.

Obviously, I'm not blind to the fact that queueing up for 3 weeks before, in costume, is even more in the same direction, but hopefully you see my point here!

P.S. Yes, a gamertag/username inscribed in something is AWESOME. It just feels better, and more subtle, than getting a t-shirt printed or something.

I suppose when I went to a GameStop for the midnight release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but I only waited like, 20 minutes.

During a spring break (week off from school) I managed to complete Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and got halfway through Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. But Ratchet & Clank is awesomely epic, so that's not a geeky related thing.

Lol about the LOTR back to back thing: i do that with all my dvd series like spiderman (not often) Pirates of the Carribean (more often) and Harry Potter (rarely) But apart from that i'd say it was playing MGO with pellet guns. lol That was great fun. We had like 8 people playing and we had spawn points and everything =)2008-10-14 19:48:00

That's what I did, but with real guns. Actually, all the rest have misteriously disappeared...
I think they just got annoyed because I won the game but I asked them if they wanted a free shot and they didn't answer so I left...

Wow, geekiest thing I've done, which isn't geeky at all, my brother and his friend went to gamestop for the midnight premiere at like 5...

I went at like 8, bought a pizza, started walking to Gamestop, by the time I got there the pizza was done, so I sat there for like an hour or so, with a couple of friends that didn't want to play, we went outside, went to quiznos, played ding dong ditch, did stupid stuff like riding a target shopping cart, a bunch of dumb stuff, it got to like 11:30 when we started walking back to gamestop, which is when I found out my little brother ( was 12 ) won the tournament and got 2 free Halo 3 Copies. Hahaha good times good times...

I think a weird habit I have is mimicing the voices of characters in time of their lines.

Examples: Star Fox 64, I tend to recite Fox and Falco's lines (including Peppy's infamous "Do a Barrel Roll!!") as they are speaking. And I do it in the exact tone.

Yeah, that's just me, and I had been playing the game this morning as well.

Classic! I once overheard a pair of chavs excitedly talking about CoD4. I know it's a stereotype, but it's not wrong to assume that MOST of them aren't into anything besdes drinking, driving really fast with lareg exhausts and small engines and tucking their joggers into their socks, so hearing them animatedly waffling on about how they were "going to pop a cap in (someone's) ***" online. Well, I had to move away because I was laughing so hard!

I got the Big Boss emblem on MGS4. 3h 40mins. Thats: extreme setting, no kills, no deaths, no rations/health, no alerts, no stealth/bandana and needs to be under 5 hrs. YEAH!

Also... just talk bout videogames alot lol. Hack all my mates PSPs. Oh and own almost every interpol CD (though it's music... so maybe less geeky?). Also complete every MGS so many times i've lost count.

Meh dude, many got the Big Boss Emblem...Though I got it at 4h 10 min.
You just need a LOT of patience, and have to go through a lot of trial and error.
Get all 40 Emblems <_< Then we'll talk. No I didn't do that But I've seen a few who have.

I don't think I've really done anything geeky, unless you consider playing games the instant I wake up to when I fall asleep.. then maybe. I've completed lots of games 100%.. I mean more than expected, like getting 99(max amount) of items for everything and such. Also, every so often I mimic videogame characters with friends but nothing big.

Once I was watching a game of soccer at school and I was looking somewhere else for a brief moment so I missed a goal, then right away I thought to myself "Where's the instant replay?" whilst actually expecting one to come up. Too much Tekken. Not really geeky but does show how videogames have corrupted my mind.

*Sigh* The Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Read all 5 books by Monday or you'll be given more homework!

Aside:

Why oh why are children taught idiotic rubbish like To kill a Mockingbird in English lit, when they miss out on the REAL classics? The ones that might actually keep people interested in reading? HHGTTG is one example, there are countless others that could actually keep people inspired to keep reading for pleasure after they finish school, but instead they insist on some of the most awful, generic, poorly paced work like TKAMB and bore everyone to death!

Back on topic,

Reading HHGTTG was what I was doing when I shoulod have been reading To Kill A Mockingbird in class, hence the rant!

I totally agree, because that's what I do. I've read the books 4-5 times now. The irony is what made that book, we ought to be learning about things like that instead of the Tale of Two Cities, which doesn't even make sense. -_-
