Halo: Reach

I noticed that there was no thread dedicated to the whole game, so I decided to make one after viewing the newest ViDoc.

This game will be up there with LBP2 for most bang for your $60. I mean, a full campaign (That's gonna kick butt!) Multiplayer for people who like it competitive, and Multiplayer for people who just want to have fun with friends, an amazing character customization system where you have to unlock and buy new armor with points earned from Campaign and Multiplayer, a map editing tool called Forge, brought back from Halo 3 (Where it was awesome) and made 100x better than before.

I can't remember how many hours I put into Halo 3, but I know that I'm going to be putting a TON more hours in Reach. For a $60 game, you seriously cannot be wasting your money on it.

I still play Little Big Planet and MW2 and what-not and have not touched an Xbox nor do I plan to! But general gaming is, in fact talking about games in general. I only played for like 30 minutes (even on my xbox), so I can not so much, but I think I see a little what I think...I am very impressed with this game..The game is clear and sharp and can only get better with the final production. The game is designed on a new game engine to that of Halo 3 ODST and and it is really amazing.2010-07-29 12:17:00

I never bothered with the Beta even though i had Reach so i could have done... Kinda wish i had done now...

I've hated Halo since after Halo 2. I hate the Xbox 360. And I hate first person shooters. But everyone's wetting themselves over it, so I'll buy it and play it.
So, is there any more information about this game? New weapons? New enemies? Can you kill someone without using an entire clip now? Can you actually make a map in forge? I played it for 9 hours, my friend has a flashed xbox and we were playing a ton!!!
Best game ever, and i'm not sure if this will be true but
since we were on offline profiles, we gained Credits in Forge, Custom Games, And Firefight, And Campaign.

I wonder if you will gain Credits in those if your on an xbox live profile....

The more i play the multiplayer, the more i am becoming convinced that it is the best console FPS i've played to date, and that's just H3. Reach promises to be even better. The armour abilities look well balanced, which is the most important thing, and they should add another dimension to the gameplay. The DMR looked a little iffy originally (in the beta) but that has been tweaked, and i prefer both that to the BR and the new AR looks cool (no idea what it's actually like though)

Forgeworld looks insane, and if Bungie take the best community maps and make them into a free map pack, or just integrate them into the playlists as they have done on H3, there could be an endless supply of brilliant maps. Hell, some of the actual maps in the game were mad in Forgeworld. It looks like they have taken the best console FPS (MP) available, and made it better.

True, but I'm referring to the fact that people make such a big deal of, only to complain about it or over exaggerate on its popularity.

Ex. Halo 3 and Modern Warfare 2.

Well, i played it from 4:30 until 12... I didn't even realise :'( I had an essay to write too, ah well.

So far, initial impressions are that it is way more fun than Halo 3. The menu is a lot better and faster for a start, and i lvoe the way the part systems and friends who are online are integrated into the menu. I played 3 missions of the story mode on Legendary co-op, seems pretty fun so far, however most of my time has been in multiplayer.

First off, i've seen very few quitters, but obviously it's early days.

The weapons are all nicely balanced, and i love the DMR. The armour abilities are cool, i did some awesome flanking stuff with the Jetpack one, they all have their uses and all are nicely balanced again. The maps are all pretty good, although i've not seen one that i like as much as a couple of the H3 maps yet.

Forge is great, should see some amazing user-made maps soon.

Firefight is basically an updated version of the ODST firefight, and that's rally good. The 2 maps i played on there were good fun as well.

Overall i prefer it to H3, as i said, so far at least... 		2010-09-15 00:21:00

Well, my dreams have come true. I am actually good at Matchmaking! I've only played 2 matches, the first I destroyed because I used the Scorpion, second one was Slayer, and I owned. (Too bad I was holding up my team and in the end lost...)

I've also played a ton of campaign with my friend, and it's awesome. I'm excited to see how it ends.

Also, I played a custom match of firefight where I had extreme speed and the armor ability Evade, this showed me that you can actually use it offensively, and kill people with your roll. Though it takes a while, it works.

I won't be getting it (not to say I berate people for buying, playing and making threads about it), I'm mainly a PC gamer with abit of PS3 on the side. Going for the High Voltage myself, 2 million credits here I come. I'm at 50k credits right now.

Faster then Halo 3? Hell yes. Faster then Halo 2? No. Nothing can every be better then Halo 2. But this game is a much needed step from Halo 3. Though Slayer Arena is where it's all at. 		2010-09-15 10:45:00

So far the only things I don't like about MP is Invasion on Hemorrhage, because of the open-ness and terrible starter weapons for the elites, and the booting system. Now, I played for a good 15 minutes of Invasion, only to get booted for accidentally killing a teammate (who was being an idiot anyways) and not getting any credits. It was completely ridiculous.

Also, beat campaign. But for some reason didn't get the achievement for beating it. Can you survive that final battle?		2010-09-16 02:59:00

Also, my quest to save up for Pestilence has been stopped. I decided 1 million is too much, and I'd much rather be using Birthday Party. So that's what I'm gonna save up for. I grew bored of LBP, indeed i never play it now. I may still pick up LBP2, who knows? Reach is a nice change from all the CoD's of the current gen, but if i am a fanboy for any specific game, it would be F1 2010. I know that when it comes out on Friday Reach will be out for a while.

I'm even taking Friday off College for F1, admittedly two of my teachers aren't in so i only have half an hour of lessons anyways, but still, i've never missed a day of college/school for any game...

So, whos playing through on Legendary? I am, and I can tell any of you who are going to be: It's not fun. I was in a battle (on my own, as the marines weren't doing anything, and were ignored by the enemies for some reason.) that took half and hour, and right when there were only a couple enemies left, a Wraith blast came from no where and killed me. I then restarted from before the battle. This happened many times...

But, I am going for all the achievements (I have 39 of em and I'll get 4 from beating it on legendary.) and Legendary gets you a ton of credits.

Right now I'm at 65766 credits, so I'm almost half way to my goal of birthday party What about everyone else? How many credits you guys got?

I have like 35000 credits, i am going to just keep saving them up, i want to buy a scout helmet, but i need to wait till i'm captain, i am a warrant officer Grade 1 right now, maybe something new that i will get at captain might change my mind... im still hoping for the amber visor.

My suffering has come to an end... I beat the game on legendary, alone. Got 3 achivements for it aswell! And a ton of credits for playing the missions, and for finishing the weekly challenge.

I also spent about half and hour trying to get the 'If They Came to Hear Me Beg' achivement, (a real pain the backside to get) and finally got that aswell. Three more achievements to go; 'Wake Up, Buttercup', 'An Honor Serving', and 'Make it Rain'. The last two will be my last ones, as I believe I'm quite far away from the needed ranks.

200 million dollars made, not copies sold. That's 330,000 copies sold. Not quite 200 million, but still very good nevertheless.

Yes, i live for the thanks on this forum. It's not a cocky reply, it's a true reply. A multi-platform game will always sell more than a single platform game (well, almost always, there are of course exceptions) and so you coming in here and saying that is really unnecessary, now go away, stupid sony fanboy.

And noticed that all the coolest armor can't be bought by anyone right now. Like the Gungnir helmet, the massive shoulder w/ knife and the grenadier chest with the massive neck thing. Makes me sad.

Also, I made a new map. This one is a small, simple map made for close quarters battles and fast paced action. I also recorded me building it and made a time lapse. (It took an hour to make, and I condensed it into 10 minutes.)

I'm not suprised, by the looks of things they really nailed the game.
I've never liked any of the halo games too much, played through 1 and went through most of a french halo 2 (lololol) but it never really stood out to me too much (except the brilliant opening of halo 1 ofcourse). Just very very overrated. However this one actually seems pretty awesome and I am a bit jealous I can't play it. Forge world looks a treat, and I appreciate the old school easter eggs in the game (ie bloody hard to find on your own). well firefight matchmaking ones can be done alone, just do score attack matchmaking!
And i doubt they will do it with campaign, since campaign is not super customizable.

Count, that happened to me but x2. FF Matchmaking, I was on Beachhead and I parked the rocket hawg on the veranda so I could hit all the phantoms. I was moving it away from a lamp post so I wouldn't suicide and as a teammate jumps on the hog, it rains freaking brutes!

I wish I got a clip but he booted me. Reply was lol owned.

does anyone else find it ridiculous for Firefight Commendations there is a perfection one and to get the iron commendation for it you need to survive a round of firefight 50 times JUST to get iron!

It's pretty ridiculous, the campaign one doesn't seem too bad, to beat the mission without dieing on heroic or legendary, you only need to do it 5 times for iron.
I almost beat the winter contingency mission on legendary without dieing ALMOST, i died once at the checkpoint after you are about to be sliced by an elite

I've played Reach at two of my friends houses (one of which obtained it illegally, so I wasn't able to play matchmaking), and I have to say it's pretty darn awesome... The graphics are nice, I really like the variety in weapons, the maps and game modes aren't bad either. And seriously, the Weekly Challenges are horrible. The first one was the only one that stood out to me as a Weekly Challenege, both the second and third seem like Daily Challenges. They need to make them difficult and long with lots of Credits.

HaloCharts.com put some leaderboards up for Reach.

Sign up there, its an awesome site and eventually they will have a ton more stats than bungie does for Reach. ( They did for Halo 3)
And they have a ton of leaderboards.

Well a lot of them have very good points so don't exclude everything. Some people complaining about the bloom are just not ready for change but Bungie messed up big time on this game.

I'm not going to get into it fully but I feel the game was unfinished. The maps have HORRIBLE spawns, especially The Cage, that map has by far the dumbest spawn system I have ever seen, the enemy team should not be able to spawn right next to the sniper when someone is already there.

Also I hate the Arena Rating System, they didn't fully think it out which is why the only thing they can have in it is Slayer, the Rating system is based off your kills, assists, and deaths. So any objective type games are out of the question in Arena, which sucks because I really liked the competitive aspect of Objective gametypes like CTF and Oddball.

Oh well, I still love the game because Halo 2 was the first online experience I had with a mic and good old trash talking and being competitive so I can't hate on Bungie too much.

They've had real-time cinematics since ODST. It's very cool. I found out when I piled a heap of boxes on the NYPD HQ level and when the chieftain went to smash Romeo he hit the pile of boxes and they actually flew away!

I'm hoping that when the add the SWAT playlist (on the 7th) they remove SWAT from other playlists. I am pretty good at it, and usually get a high score, but the one shot kill thing is annoying when you spawn on a teammate whos getting shot at, and then get instantly spawn killed. Reminds me way too much of MW2, and it's even worse. I like Slayer Pro and Slayer DMRs because then you actually get a chance to react to getting shot.2010-10-04 23:17:00

Well you barely get any compared to the amount you would get if you completed the whole thing.

Funny thing too, just after I posted that other message, I went into a firefight game where a guy betrayed me because I stole his 2 sleeping grunt kills on Corvetter. Then I booted him, and his friend followed, then the other guy on my team shot me when I had barely any health, and even though he killed me, he didn't do enough damage to make it say he betrayed me. He then went ahead and stole my Fuel Rod gun, and then later he betrayed me again, and BAM I booted his butt. So in the end I had almost the same amount of points as the total 		2010-10-05 02:47:00

The unfortunate part about that is this: stuff happens. In a game with numerous explosions and high-velocity vehicles, betrayals are bound to happen.

One time I was booted from a game because I accidentally drove a warthog with a gunner into some water. Before we exploded I clearly slammed on the brakes, and come on, why would I try to kill myself?! Yet still, since he died because of my actions, it was treated as a betrayal. And, kids being kids, he decided to kick me from the game.

I think that almost every gamemode should be like Snipers: One grenade. This would just balance out everything and stop the constant spam you can't avoid.

I'm also coming to hate using armor lock when theres no teamwork. Armor lock says: "Hey guys, I'm almost dead, so could you just kill this injured guy I shot, quickly? But instead they just ignore you and your wounded enemy and go throw themselves off a cliff.

While I'm at it I'll just go ahead and say Jetpacks are just portable camp sites as everyone who uses them finds a nice high vantage point and camp there. Oh, and the grenade launcher, that thing is incredibly OP.

But does it even matter? The only thing it does is stop you from unlocking new items, and it doesn't show your rank progression. You still earn credits, and when the rank cap is taken away, you'll go straight to the rank you should be on.		2010-10-10 23:45:00

Seeing as everyone above major bought the EVA helmet, anyone above commander is totally going to have Emile's helmet (AKA EVA [C])

I can also see why you didn't get the robo-arm thing. It seems so skinny and it just does not fit the massive bulk that is a spartan. Though, it probably looks better on a female spartan.

I have 94188 cR and nothing I really want to buy. I may get the JFO helmet (Which looks terrible with the black visor FYI) and the Tacpad, and the blue visor. Oh and maybe one of those shoulders you unlock at Lt. Colonel that looks more like a shield than anything 		2010-10-11 02:24:00

Has anyone else played the firefight gamemode 'Crashsite'? It's a single generator defense mode where you have one life and overshields. You also do a ton more damage and have infinite ammo. It's quite fun and challenging but it's like the new gruntpoc as it's an easy way to get commendations. If you do play it, the easier maps are Overlook, Beachhead, and Courtyard. Grab a plasma pistol and a fuel rod gun, and you will destroy. (seriously, the plasma pistol is AMAZING in this gamemode.)		2010-10-11 20:51:00

It is easy to get, just put on a mode with ALL hunters and make it on Corvette, with rocket launchers, bottomless clip, Invunerable

Though the Noble Map Pack seems quite small and maybe overpriced, I'm still gonna get it. I mean, I bought the MW2 map packs! (lol)

And now, I'm a Major Grade 3. Haven't been playing much, and I missed that 4000 cR challenge yesterday because of the NA release of the LBP2 Beta. Hopefully by the end of this week I'll be Lt. Colonel, and finally be able to buy all the armor I've been wanting. (Yep, I'm gonna hop aboard the robot arm train, and ditch my SCAR-F.)

Doing the Oni Sword Base Exploit, will not get you banned, bungie said things like that WILL NOT get you banned, only resetting your challenges, sitting idle in too many games or actually boosting in Matchmaking will get you banned.

They always make everything look good when the player is completly owning .

What you talkin' bout. The weekly challenge looks like a rip-off. I mean 400 FIREFIGHT enemies (Yeah, the ones that take little effort to kill, and pile up for easy pickings) killed = 4000 credits, BUT 1000 human players (The ones that usually take quite a while to kill and you don't get nearly as many per match) killed ALSO = 4000 credits. That don't make any sense.

All I want to do now is get the Lt. Colonel (which I've been putting off for a while now) and then leave the game for a while to play Black Ops 		2010-10-25 23:05:00

Well yesterday I actually took the time to play some MP matches and get all the daily challenges, and I finally reached Lt. Colonel I also had enough money to buy the JFO helmet, the whatchamacallit chest piece, and the robot arm. (oh, and a shoulder plate.) With that I got the final achievement and I am now ready for Black Ops and the map pack!2010-10-30 19:37:00

I got bored. FPS's (should, they used to but no one really seems to care anymore) live and die on the map design. And Reach's map design is terrible.

CoD3 actually had the best maps, along with CoD2, which had some brilliant maps (Carentan, Toujane) and some horrible maps (brecourt, aka Wasteland in MW2, i think. Or something like that.)		2010-10-30 21:10:00

I might start playing this again, they made arena better finnaly, with Needle rifles, MLG playlist comes out in 2 days which should be awesome! Yeah i just might buy the Noble map pack soon and start playing this, it was great fun

I think it did the opposite for me. When the cap was lifted I kinda got scared off because I knew everyone would be higher levels and such and with Black Ops, I wouldn't level up very high. But, it was a great game and one day I shall return to it.		2010-12-06 00:42:00
